1. Don't fancy a trade for a Fender jap 1962 reissue p bass do you?
2.
The pickups and pre-amp
and the body and neck!
3.
Just to stick my two pence worth in , are you absolutely sure you couldn't learn to love the sound of this bass as it is ? A Consat Custom with Delano pickups is a pretty tasty bass in anybodys book , and to me it would be a shame to start butchering it . Basses of that quality are few and far between . You could put the price of the Big Singles towards a used Jazz Bass of some description ( Fender MM? ) to fulfil your Marcus- tone cravings and then have both options .available. I just can't see you ending up with the Jazz Bass sound your after if you go down this route, and you could end up spoiling a very desirable bass in the process.
It wouldn't spoil the bass at all - the Big Singles fit as a direct replacement. I already have a Fender Marcus Miller - but I need a 5 string, and the Consat is the only 5 I've ever felt happy playing. If I have to, I'll take the neck off it and have a new body built to suit!
4. I have a Marleaux Consat Custom 5 I gave some serious thought to selling it as it doesn't quite sound how I want it to. BUT it has the only 5 string neck I have ever loved so I'd like to try and get it sounding different. This might be impossible given the construction (mahogany body with a ziricote top) but I want it to sound more like a Marcus jazz bass. It has Delano humbuckers in it at the moment. They are very humbuckery and lack the single coil sizzle. There are not many true single coils that are a direct replacement, size-wise, but the Nordstrand Big Singles appear to be a straight swap. Any idea if these will give me a push to the sound I'm looking for? I had a chat with Mark at Bass Direct and he thought the preamp was very neutral and wouldn't need changing at all, so that leaves the pickups. All suggestions for my impossible holy grail are welcome!
5. What is the purpose of tapered low strings? It seems very odd to me. My basic physics seems to think that changing the diameter of the string so drastically must arse-up the vibration. What say you?
6.
This is the key really. These days MIM classic series stuff is pretty-much on par with similar styled MIJ guitars such as the Geddy Lee. I'd be pretty confident if they are now MIM that the quality will be virtually indistinguishable, but as MIJ instruments seem to be so expensive these days, I'd certainly expect the price to drop. Production cost will be the reason for moving production, so it'd be a bit 'off' of Fender to not pass some of that saving onto the consumer.
That's more than a bit naive. They are moving production so they can keep their previous margins, not to make the bass cheaper to the punter.
7. I have a Prometheus I would trade. Great condition, Velcro on the bottom I just fancy trunking something different.
8. Yup - even if you add other brands like the Joyo and DrJ pedals then the discount gets applied to the entire order!
9. A pair of Berg HD112 sounds just like a HD212 to my ears - so I'd have the pair of cabs. The 212 is pretty heavy, and being able to take a single cab to a smaller event is important to me. The 112 is still pretty heavy though. Wouldn't want to use public transport with it!
10. I got a 9.2 after seeing Mark as well! Amazing amp!
11. I suggest GHS Pressure Wound strings too. Amazing on a P.
12. Lovely!! I have a Jap 62-reissue and I love it. Bought it on a whim from Japan expecting to scratch an itch and then move it on... and it is never going anywhere!!

14. I love that! What an amazing colour! Stick some GHS Pressure wounds on it and it would be perfect!
