  1. Zoom. But disable the ambient and background noise filters. Otherwise it thinks the music is background noise.
  2. I'm a big fan of Status and I've owned several, but I want to keep this looking like a Fender. My concern as to prices was that the bass itself was only £600 used so spending nearly the same on just the neck is making me pause.
  3. I suppose a Mex will do. After all old basses didn't have extra rod in the neck, and they had monster La Bella flats on them.
  4. USA ones are £549 on Andertons. Mex are £250 to £299.
  5. I just tried again actually - and I've got some come up! Not the cheapest things in the world!
  6. I've got a lovely Fender American Special P bass, but I really prefer a jazz neck. US parts used to be on the Fender website but now that is location locked and only shows up from a USA IP address. So where is a good place to get a real USA jazz bass neck in the UK? ta.
  7. I made my own Nordy Mute style thing. Self Adhesive foam strip and an ice lolly stick. Cut slots to match your bass with a very sharp knife. Can be put on / taken off really quickly without any faffing. Cost - pennies. The Nordy version is about £40!
  8. Whatever the reasons they won't be your reasons. I think you are just going to have to buy one and try it.
  9. Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder or The Real Me... but NOT the Who version. The WASP version by Johnny Rod is much better.
  10. Use a DAW and an interface with your PC Reaper is a free DAW and easy to use. Drummer does his bit and emails it to you. You open the file in Reaper, plug your bass into an interface and record your part as another track. You can either just record direct or you can use a software plugin to emulate an amplifier. When you have recorded your part You then email that to your guitarist etc etc Each person adds their bit in turn. Many albums are recorded this way these days. Don't have to turn up to the studio anymore.
  11. This. Zoom and Skype etc have too much lag to actually play together.
  12. Bassist in Korn. Famous for having a rattly not very bass like tone. Bit like a sack of marbles in a metal bin.
  13. Are you Fieldy?
  14. I think that's a California 1. Headstock is too big for a Series 2.
  15. Is it not just the M81 in a smaller box with fewer connections?
  16. Under normal circumstances I'd agree with you. These are not normal circumstances. I am of course aware that forcing insurers to pay out everything would just move the job losses to the insurance industry away from the arts, but there has to be a middle ground somewhere that allows people to eat and heat our homes.
  17. Doesn't matter. Association of British Insurers have announced this morning that standard Business Interruption cover does not apply when the business is shut by government action. https://www.abi.org.uk/news/news-articles/2020/03/statement-on-business-insurance-and-coronavirus/ Basically - if the business didn't tick the box for the add-on that said "Government shutdown" then there is no cover. I can't imagine many businesses bought that extra bit. Insurers are shitheads. They will deny payouts and then still increase the premiums because of this.
  18. A thing of beauty. Best colour option too!
  19. I have EMGs and the BQC eq system in my j type (Sandberg) and reducing the bass and boosting the mids at the lower end of the freq pot gets really close. Still not perfect, but good enough in a mix.
  20. All compressors raise the noise floor. That is what they are for! They increase the lower volume elements and limit the louder elements. If your usual rig has a tiny bit of hiss you cannot usually hear then a compressor will make it louder. If your rig has noticeable hiss then it's going to get more noticeable. The very best compressors don't have any hiss of their own, but the normal action of a compressor will ALWAYS increase any hiss that exists elsewhere in the signal chain. So the secret is trying to remove hiss from all the other gear in the chain. And turn down / off any tweeters you have if your cab allows it. Placement can help - if you put a compressor after a load of vintage FX then it's going to be noisy even with a studio grade compressor. Putting it right after the bass in the chain can be quieter but if you have envelope filters etc then it can limit them. Compression junkies like Billy Sheehan run several compressors in different places in the chain to get the compression they need with minimal noise increase. I've tried that and it works well. My ThorpyFX Fat General is the quietest pedal compressor I've found so far (even more than the Cali76) but I've also got a very quiet chain before it - EMG loaded bass and a remarkably quiet Source Audio Spectrum Filter. Then it goes into the noisy over drive stuff.
  21. Lovely colour! What's the balance on a strap like?
  22. EQ system now fitted. Vol / Balance / Mids & Freq / Treble & Bass Used it in anger on Saturday at rehearsal. Very happy. Far better for my taste than the original Black Label pickups and EQ, especially with the semi-para mid control.
  23. Battery dead = no sound. Installing a bypass switch won't really help either as most of the volume from the EBMM pickup comes from the preamp - it's actually a pretty quiet pickup when wired up passively.
