1. Very nice bass! I keep my Zoid VM6 which (thanks God!) has not managed to sell when I had difficult period of life. Now another W&T bass is in the process, but not a Zoid, which is my favourite W&T shape (if not to say the only single cut shape I dig)! Congrats!
  2. I am not sure how correct this is, but I've read somewhere that: The serial number is the year, month, then # of instrument made that month. For instance mine is 9707709, and I always thought it is July 1997, but I don't think it is the 709th bass made that month, must be too crazy. I also saw a pic of a fretless Zon with the serial 9709726, and it makes sense to me that it is from the September 1997, and it is the 726th bass (or Sonus) made (since being introduced?). I also heard that the serial number for Legacy model is different, not sure how true is this as I've never owned one. So, most probably yours is from either from January or then October 2003, but it might be I am wrong.
  3.
Just noticed this thread and hoping I can contribute... Here's my Sonus Special. I got it from Deezbar of this forum as a trade for a vintage Jazz bass. I'm not completely sure of it's age, but Dave told me he thinks it's mid-90's (i.e. a very early one). If anybody knows more or can offer advice about it then I'm all ears, as I don't really know much about them (other than the quality of course, which is superb!).
What's the serial number?

    GONE

So beautiful! If only I needed 4 strings right now kind of bump!
  5. BTW Couple of days ago (or was it last week) there was one used Zon Legacy unlined fretless 5 for sale at Bass Gallery. Although it stated it is Elite, the headstock had Standard on it. 2 quids if I am not wrong. Has gone (at least disappeared from their webiste) in less than 24 hours I believe. So, maybe we'd hear from the happy owner soon?
  6.
If you want to trade the Zon back to me for a USA Spector NS2 or a USA Parker Fly, just give me a shout.
Thanks, John! But I better keep this Zon it at the moment. Both Spector and Parker are very nice basses indeed, but I am not really looking for something similar at the moment. I am in search for the fretless right now, I had a good offer from Chris/classrock. But after long negotiations, I had to leave it due to the fact that I realized I am a lousy fretless player and it may work out for me only if the fretboard is lined and marks are vivid.
That one is a beauty. Welcome to the club.
Thanks for the welcome!
  7.
I just picked this up yesterday: I've had to use the previous owner's pictures, I plan to take some of my own soon. Anyway, it's a real stunner. The neck is fantastic and it's as light as feather. It's has a very vocal, even sounding tone that is interestingly articulate and organic at the same time. I can imagine many a happy soundman when you turn up with this, is must be very easy to mix!
Not very much original, but it is now in my hands! I just love it!
  8.
They are pretty awesome, it has to be said. Have you seen the Zon thread in the Gear Porn section? It's here if you want to have a look: http://basschat.co.u...e-are-the-zons/
Oh yes, I have! Seems I can make a little addition to the Zon thread
  9.
Just realised I've never put pictures of my Zon Legacy Elite fretless four string on this thread:
My dream bass at the moment
  10. Although I play bass for 20+ years (with couple of breaks) and I had a bit of education in the other instrument in my childhood, I always feel I am an amateur. Studying music may never be accomplished (not to be messed up with training, f. e. classic) as the length of this process may take the eternity. IMHO of course.
  11.
Completely bollocks. Nowadays aircraft holds are pressurised the same as the cabin. Someone on the SOS forums proved this by including one of those garden max and min thermometers in his hold luggage.
Yep, that's what I've thought. One thing to avoid misunderstandings - I know how to tighten the truss rod correctly and I've never broke one. In my case it was impossible to tighten at all whatever strength you'd apply, and loosening it would make no effect to the neck. It got fixed in any case, this bass serves me well now.
  12. Jon, I don't think it has to do with EU bass purchases. Around May last year I've purchased Washburn Stu Hamm electric (bass has been exhibited at NAMM 2010) from Funky Munky Music in the US. The offer was good, the bass is nice, it arrives ...... with the truss rod not functioning at all. You just can't get any playable action (with the lowest possible at the bridge). It took me several weeks and few dozen of pics to prove I am right that the truss rod is warped. I had to ship it back, wait, in the end (around the beginning of October) I've got it back. I must admit Funky Munky Music and Washburn were very helpful after I've managed to prove the defect. Honestly, I could hardly believe that the bass exhibited at NAMM (well, I do not have illusions about Washburn custom shop, but still) would have a defect like this. The additional costs were just around EUR 70 for shipping it back (with the neck removed). Please note: the bass was originally shipped in the steel Washburn case. In the end Washburn people told me that it might be the truss rod has warped while being in the low temperatures when shipped by airplane, not sure how true is this.
  13. Carlos is the man, very nice video, thanks!
  14. Buy from Pierre with confidence, he's one of the greatest guys here on BC!
  15.
Damn beautiful! I believe Bernie offers both 34' and 35' scales for 5 string Rumours, which one is this?
Am I asking something dumb? What's the svale?

  17.
I can see me playing that left handed.... it'd look better!!!
+1 Super
  18.
I had a Zon Sonus 4 string that traded hands a few times at a value of around £1300. I would expect yours would be worth about the same, maybe a little bit more if someone is willing to pay for the extra string. Fantastic basses too.
This is me who has bought this Zon Sonus 4 you are mentioning Hopefully it won't be changing owners in near future as I totally dig the bass. Ironically enough I've sold Ibanez Gary Willis GW1 to purchase this Zon, both are great basses! Bump for a beautiful Zon, I haven't got other Ibanez GW1 unfortunately, I would have traded it for your beautiful Zon right away! Bump for a beauty!
  19. Thanks kjb and Paul S! Yesterday I took time to check the PayPal rules and conditions closer, they really feel safe for a buyer, so I realize my ignorance in this question. Again, thanks everyone!
  20. I highly appreciate all the advices, thanks everyone! I was not aware of the fact that PayPal is that safe. I used it couple of times, mainly to pay the items like strings or Graph Tech stuff purchased on eBay (but in all cases the sellers had enormous amount of positive feedback). My biggest concern is safety, not the high exchange rates at PayPal (it is correct, a bank transfer fee is pretty high). And the thing is that I have the same feeling as discreet - I feel suspicious about the guy being reluctant to give bank details. I also need to study this "payment for goods and services" option at PayPal, seems I was using it usually, but never paid attention to its real meaning to the buyer and seller. Once again, thanks everyone! Even if the deal will fall through, this is a good experience for me.
  21. Hello, fellow Basschatters! I need an advice, here is a short story: I search for a fretless Zon (I've bought a fretted Zon Sonus last December here on BC, I love its modern sound, playability and the fact that it survives the low temperatures like minus 25 Celsius without any neck shifts). So, I've started a topic in the Items Wanted few days ago. To my surprise I've got an offer, lovely Zon Sonus 4 fretless. Started the correspondence via e-mail, got the pics, got my questions answered. Good price, seems like in a good shape. And then it comes to the point of discussing the means of payment, I got stuck if not to say doubted by the seller. The point is - the seller has signed in to BC few weeks ago, no feedback, few posts one of which is in Introductions. I offer the seller to pay via bank money transfer, for which I need to know the bank details of the seller (bank name, seller's name, IBAN number, SWIFT code etc.). I usually pay this way to sellers on BC and TB, gave my bank data to buyers, never had problems (and I always present the copy of the payment confirmation stamped by bank). It is not only easier for me and not only because of the high PayPal exchange rates, in this case I am trying to avoid any possible scam attempts (meaning in case of scam by the seller I may always go to my bank, they will get in touch with the seller's bank etc., at least some hope to get the money back). The seller gets nervous giving his bank account details. I try to explain him that knowing his bank account details I can't do any harm to him. I have a feedback (well, only 2 feedback by now here), though I am from Latvia, I am a decent person, I can present my bank account details to verify via your bank et cetera. Well, maybe I was "pushing" the seller somehow, convincing people is a part of my job, so maybe I overdid with this. In the end the seller gets so nervous about the issue, that starts to doubt in me. Little by little it gets to the point - quote: "seems your a waste of time, PayPal, take it or leave it". Once again - high exchange rates of PayPal are not that important. What I worry about is that PayPal in my eyes is more kind of anonymous and paying via it to the person with no feedback or recommendations is a far higher risk than via bank. Guys, am I dumb?
