1. The vintage copy is a complete dream to play. The sound lets it down a bit, the electronics are pretty naff. I'd love a real stingray to get that playability and the tone. Maybe selling the P and tarting up the stingray would be a nice idea? I'm thinking a John East MM 2 band style dropped in with a bart?
2. Guy, I loved your bass off on Aussie TV. That's it really, no question.
3. Mine is the classic 50's with the e-ruddy-normous neck!
4. I'm not sure the tone is right for the slap, though thats a pretty cool idea.
5. I've owned a Squire Vintage Modified jazz before and i quite liked the neck on that truth be told. Not sure i could pick up a MM for 300-400! I was looking at gaf's and i could maybe stretch to it but it would have to be perfect. How much do the 34s go for second hand?
6. Recently i bought what i thought was the perfect bass - a lovely fender precision with a tasty maple board. I play Ska/Indie music and i thought the meat and potatoes thump would be ideal for it. However, it isn't really working out and i think we're heading for divorce. The neck doesn't feel right in my hands - i've gone back to playing my vintage stingray copy. I want to get something that plays like the stingray but sounds as good as the P in full throttle. I'm looking at maybe an MTD kingston 5 stringer - i've heard great things about the playability. I flew around the neck on the 4 stringer so who is to say the 5 is any different? Maybe something along the lines of a Sub? I'm looking around the 3-400 mark, ideally trading the P. I play some slap too, and the slap sounds far better on the stingray - so maybe something with a humbucker? Parker
7. I'll give you a Vintage Stingray copy Gotta be worth a shout.
8. EEEK! That's gorgeous. No money, but just thought i'd add Tom is a top top bloke to deal with so buy with confidence!
9. You make a good point Si. Something like this, which is almost unique these days, should be out there on the road.
10. Steve, I could never afford this. I just like to oggle at old fenders. Are you sure you want to sell a piece of history? For real? This is the best precision i've ever laid my eyes on. YOU'RE MENTAL. Parker.
11. Feel for you Bassassin. That was a pretty sh*tty thing to do. At least you've got those rickenfakers!!!
12. ALL KINDS OF SOLD.
13. I've always been a massive ska fan, and i've loved the specials for a few years now. I've never been able to put my finger on what separates them from other 2tone/second wave acts. Now i'm more competent as a bassist i believe its his work. He's unreal! He lays down old school reggae with a side order of punk and a garnish of disco. His lines carry the tone of the song beautifully and it turns a standard ska band into a really special (excuse the pun) sound. Anyone agree? What bassists have really inspired you with your music?
14. Sarah, that's lovely!
15. I feel inferior and as if i should lock myself in a dark room with nothing but a bass and ambition.
16. Open to offers, could do with this gone by tomorrow!
17. Looking for a quick sell. Mint, flight cased and with official power supply. I really liked it at first but then i realised that in a ska band you don't actually need any effects and it detracted from the sound! £110 posted. You know what these all look like and can do.
18.
Loads, its the reason i started playing slap bass.
I chuckled rather hard at that.
19. I'm on the right. And one of my future.
20. Remember guys. They look at the others but we make the boobs bounce.
21. Little Bitch is super simple but effective too. I love ska!!!
22. I can't stand any third wave apart from some sublime, which is much more melodic and harks to the more 2tone aspect. Second wave is my favourite, The Specials debut album being one of my all time favourites. Nite Klub has a gorgeous bassline. If i knew how to link i would but i'm sure you skaheads know it!
23. The mix on the BBC is sh*te. Live the bass is thick and huge but the BBC mix is super bass light.
