1. Lick my love bump
2.
Hi Tom, Just listening to your MySpace tunes! I think the Compact is the way to go, as it'll give you more of that big ska bottom with your 500W than the Midget can (doubling the enclosure size gets you another 3dB in the lows, like having twice as much power). The onus will be on your to keep control of those lows by how you play (muting particularly) but if you really do find the Terror/Compact pairing too big in the lows then we can swap it for the Midget. I don't think you will though. Btw, if that's you playing on the MySpace recordings then I think you need to update your sub-avatar quote unless Gloucester is a hotbed of bass talent! Not sure if you'll be able to get as much grind from the Terror as on your first clip, partly that depends on how hard you can drive the front end which in turn depends on how loud your basses are and how hard you tend to play. Also a lot of that is from his pick attack - tone is indeed in the hands (and what they're up to) But you can always add a boost or overdrive pedal out front, and picks are cheap! Best regards, Alex P.S. Regarding the SP210 suggestion, it can only handle 600W thermally, it'll be excursion limited to less than half that. And because it's an isobaric design (using a pair of drivers acting as one driver with twice the cone mass, half the suspension compliance, half the Vas, half the voice coil resistance, and 3dB lower sensitivity compared to one) although it's a 2x10" it has the same maximum output and low frequency extension of a 1x10" of double the net volume (the doubling of power handling gets back the 3dB sensitivity loss, and note that the net volume is the volume behind the rear driver in the isobaric so you also have to add the space for the front driver and the isobaric chamber, and the port (which has to be three times as long if you halve the net volume to maintain the same tuning)). Compared to a normal 2x10" an isobaric 2x10" has 6dB lower max output. End result is that the SP212 can't play as loud as the Midget, let alone the SP210 getting anywhere near the Compact.
For a couple of new tracks i'm starting to introduce an aggressive picking action because deep down i've always wanted to be Bruce Foxton! I play with a pretty hard finger style anyway, by no means like Geezer Butler but i'm far from gentle! And your P.S made no sense to my completely amp ignorant brain so i skipped to the last two sentences and heard what i needed to know!
3. Two and a half year bump. Impressive!
4. Cheers joe! I'd love to know how it goes!
5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i71NC9-s__A - cleaner mid driven tone.
6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8yy_8WEPnw
7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8gn5GLqRR0 - that at grittiest. This would be a dirty tone and i'd also have a warmer dubbier one.
8. I'll be playing a stringray copy and a Fender Jazz into it. I currently use an Ashdown Superfly into a homebuild by alien on this form (1x15 450 watts eminence kappa 4 ohm) and a Peavey 2x10 (300 watts 4 ohm). I like it at rehearsal as i can get a variety of tones and it doesn't distort, but at gigs when i crank it everything becomes muddy and i lose my tone. Couple this with it being so hifi i can't get that sorta subtle valve grind that i want. www.myspace.com/coxonsriot - its a combination of ska, indie and powerpop. Gig wise we're starting to play much bigger gigs, but generally playing to about 80 people upwards. Probably playing infront of up to 1000 this weekend at Brisfest. I'll get some links for tones.
9. Watching boobies bounce.
10. I haven't ruled out a midget - it would be extra portable and i do like 12s over 15s but apparently with barefaced i have to 'forget everything i thought i knew about cabs'!!! Edit:... which wasn't very much at all in the first place!
11. I'm looking to replace my whole rig (which is fine, it's just a bit muddy when you really really crank it and isn't that portable) with an Orange Terror 500 and a Barefaced Compact. I've been doing some research into both of these and the terror seems ideal for what I want tonally (slightly gritty aggressive thump) and it's obviously very portable. The barefaced compact by nature also seems to be incredibly portable too but i've a question or two about it if that's okay alex? I see that you reccomend 200-500 watt heads at 8ohms. The Terror is exactly 500 watts at 8ohm which seems ideal, but i know for a fact that they are scarily loud for that. Would the cab still suit? And will it provide what I need for my tone? Sorry for the questions. Tom.
12. In a music shop hit me with your rythmn stick must be up there. And higher ground by the chillis. Oh wait, i regularly play both in shops. sh*t.
13. I need a bit more 'ooomph then 100 watts but cheers bud!
14. bump
15. I can't get over the neck! So silky smooth and fast. Quite big but quick nevertheless. Snakewood fretboard and some exotic walnut i think for the cap. Just beautiful
16. bump
17. GB Rumour Little Mark Tube 800 Mark Bass New York 804. Never again will i play such expensive and unbelievable kit. Any tone, any volume, it was all there. The bass was insanely playable and beautiful. I've not had GAS this bad since vindaloogate. Sure beats a Stingray copy into a Superfly!!!

Brisfest?

Any of you guys playing at Brisfest? Coxon's Riot will be rocking the mainstage on the saturday at 2pm!
19. Picture: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=attach...st&id=58679 I would trade for a combo. The point of the sale is that i wanted a rig to gig with but that was portable. It is... but it's still a fair old load of gear to carry about so i'm looking to downsize on a trade as funds raised by the sale would go on a combo as it is. Combine this with the fact i'm moving away to uni i really need something portable but loud enough to use live. Marshall MB/Roland DB700 or similar.
20. P.S this lot is all for sale now as i need a combo for transport purposes!
21. Hey guys, For sale is my stack. It's been my first gigging rig and it has served me well at about 10 shows. I've not really had to crank it massively as i usually DI it and use the beast as some sort of flashy oversized monitor! It consists of: Ashdown Superfly 500: Great portable head. I've had some problems with it's power unit so i sent it back to ashdown and it's been 100% perfect ever since (if anything it's even louder). You know the score on these - 500 watts into two 4 ohm cabs. Digitally programmable EQ settings and software to create some more. The head is still under warantee untill December and has it's original box, ears, cover and manual. Couple of scratches but it is in full working order. Alien Audio 1x15 450 watt 4 ohm: Custom build by Alien from these forums. Really tight 1x15 with pronounced lows. Not too heavy either so quite portable. Peavey 2x10 300 watt 4 Ohm: I have no idea on the history on the cab apart from it has had it's speakers changed to 2x10 inch 8 Ohm Eminence Alpha speakers bringing the load to 4 ohms. As stated, this was my first foray into the large amps world and it's ideal for someone who wishes to do so. I'm looking for the region of £320 PRICE DROP £280 collected for the entire rig from Gloucester. I'm not keen to split but if you're interested in one part make me an offer i can't refuse!. Picture to come. Parker.
22. I've got a superfly 500 which i currently play into a 1x15 (400watts at 4 ohms) and a 2x10 (300 watts at 4 ohms). The cranked the amp distorts, really noticeably at about 8/10. I'm looking to get the Impact by Status 120 valve amp on here. Running it at 4ohms would it distort (in a bad way) running through the 1x15 cab? Do you need extra headroom for a valve amp as i know they are much louder then solid state?
23. My sister goes to uni in southampton... so she could get it... if it's about when she's back down south i'll bite your arm off.
24. Here is a picture. It has alpha eminence speakers rated at 8 ohms each - they're non-original i believe. I'm not sure the input jack is in the original place either.
25. It's the first time i've heard anything that it could be. I've tried to find it on the net with no result.
