1. Hope you enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tJDQiClxn4
2.
You got a VBA for £200? I worked out my DBS7400 as having the same ratio...
Oops...£1 per Watt. Doesn't say a lot about my maths does it!
3. Marshall VBA400 - £0.5 / W GB STM900 - £0.75 / W
4. I keep a very close eye on my kit so (touch wood) I've not had anything stolen. I have played with a drummer who assumed that one of the band other than himself was looking after his kit. However, he forgot to tell us this so while we were loading our own gear out, approx £1000 of his cymbals went out the door with another band. There is no way that was accidental.
5.
Don't think it was them mate, small venue, not a well known band.
Left for Red? Valous? Both from the Midlands and use board / PA monitor guitar rigs.
6. Update time - the amp went off to the service centre (Fender) and it came back having had new valves fitted. It still changes tone when it warms up, and this has been confirmed by a friend who borrowed it tonight. So, back it goes again...
7. I'm not scared of opening it up - far from it, but at two months old? No chance. It's gone back today for the service centre to look at. I've got my other really portable amp (VBA400 ) that will do the acoustic stuff I use the GB for in the short term. To be honest, I'm not convinced I would hear the difference between a vintage valve and a new one of the same type, and I'm happy with the noise I get from the STM in stock trim. But what would I know? I didn't think that speaker stands would make that much difference until they were demonstrated to me years ago. I'll let you know what the service centre tell me.
8.
I think it's telling you need it sounding manly rather than a big wet gay sound that are obviously trying to make it sound. So stop being a homo and grind it up
Thanks for your useful input Will.
9. How do, I have an STM 900 which is a couple of months old. Bought new, well treated, not thrashed etc... After an hour or so of playing I notice that the tone has changed. It's has way more gain (not louder) and the sound is clearly overdriven. It's not a huge into Lemmy-esque distortion, but definitely noticeable. Others in the band noticed it at rehearsal yesterday too so I know I'm not imagining it. The unit doesn't get hot - the case gets to be few degrees above the ambient and the air coming out of the fan is only slightly warm. I'm going to contact the retailer on monday, but thought I would ask the BC masses if it is something others have noticed. Is it a case of "they all do that sir, it's a feature". I don't think the sound should wander off its settings with only an hours running - so I'm thinking that there is maybe a dry joint or one of the preamp valves is misbehaving. Either way, at two months old I'm not taking a screwdriver to it. Over to you...
10. I bought a Streamliner 900 and a Bergantino HD112 about 3 weeks ago. I bought it as I needed a small but powerful rig to play with an acousti-punk band I am part of. I tried it into a pair of Berg 1x12's, and compared it against the GB Shuttle and the Orange Terror. Now I can't use all the technical terms, I just know what I like the sound of - but to me the Shuttle did only clean, the OTB was just dirty but the STM could do it all, from really clean to full-on Lemmy. I have played it into my Berg 1x12 (8 ohm), my pair of Trace Elliot 2000 era 4x10s (8 ohm each, normally paired with my VBA400) and a sh*tty Laney 2x10 (8ohm). The quality of the cab is vital. The peak light was flashing on when used with the Laney and I could barely hear it. With the TE cabs, it sounded great but since we play stupidly loud it was on the edge. A pair of more modern, higher sensitivity 4x10's and I suspect it would be immense. I also use the GB/Berg rig as my home practice rig, because it can be run really quiet aswell. The key for me with these modern Class D heads is that you can't pair them with older cabs and get the best out of them.
11. I flatly refused to play Electric 6's Gaybar a few months ago. To be honest, if it had been pushed I think I would have walked.
12. The deed is done. Spent three hours in Bass Direct this morning trying combinations of Shuttle / Streamliner / Orange TB with single and paired Berg 1x12 and 2x10 cabinets. I left with the Streamliner 900 and a HD112. It's a great portable rig for my acousti-punk adventures and my own bands acoustic gigs I have planned for them, but its also easily upgradeable with the addition of another HD112 or HD210. I also did two things I haven't done before - played a Dingwall fanned fret bass, and a short scale fretless with some kind of coated strings. Pity the speakon cable I knew I had at home was broken so I couldn't play with it when I got it home. Smegging neighbours were out aswell
13.
If you are only going to run 1 112 cab then a 500watt amp will give you enough volume and the headroom to get a great tone.
Initially it will only be a single 1x12 so I agree that it is overkill, but I want to keep my options open for upgrades in the future. Either to add another 1x12 for the acousti-punk band, or its even possible that I will look into a larger cab like a Bergantino 6x10 so I can replace my Trace / Marshall rig.
14. I voted yes, but it depends on the situation. The Streamer Stage I I use exclusively for Black Road Home The Thunderbird I use for Paul Henshaw and the Scientific Simpletons My Streamer LX I use for home practice. The Crafter acoustic I use to collect dust.
15.
If I wanted to refer to inanimate things as 'she' (or 'he') I'd move to France, Italy or Spain where they do it properly. So can you stop it please, or I'm leaving the country.
Mine are all named after women I have a soft spot for - Dita (von Teese), Jessica (Rabbit), Mila (Jovovic) and Bettie (Paige) Don't slam the door on your way out

There are a selection of Corvette electronics options there. Yes...they are expenisve!
17. Oh dear...the Bergantino HD112 is looking rather tasty. damn my expensive taste.
18. Just needed Stephen Hawking on vocals to complete.
19.
I briefly owned a 900, it only left the house once. I did use a fair bit in the house though, it sat at sensible volumes just fine.
Another tick in the box for the 900 then. Cheers
20.
You can use either wattage amp and keep the gain volume down, gain wherever you like....then use the master to taste.
Grand. I wasn't sure if the controls were sensitive enough at their lower end to use at a house practice volume. If they are useable at this volume - and you seem to confirm this - then my practice amp can go, and this rig could take its place. Thanks for your input gents, much appreciated. Now I'm wondering if I find the extra £100 to go for the 900 version, so I can choose to use it inplace of my valve amp - or replace my large rig entirely with new cabs aswell. Damn Shiny-fing Syndrome
21.
Have you thought about one of these?
I have, but the Streamliner is more 'me'.
22. I need a physically small rig to play some acoustic gigs that my 400W valve rig is just too much to carry. I trialed and liked the sound of the GB Streamliner, so the 600 version and probably a Focus 1x12 cab is what I am thinking. So, here's the daft thought that occured to me earlier - just how QUIETLY can you run one of these amps? Is it possible to set the volume and master levels to a reasonable bedroom practice level? I don't want to use headphones. Told you it was a daft question!
23. I had a 5 string bolt on for a while and couldn't get on with it at all. People go on about Gibson T'bird neck dive but the Thumb was in a different league altogether. I found it really heavy and painful to play with all the weight being supported by my left thumb. There is no way I could play it live so I sold it on. It's a shame because I think mine had nicer grain than the one that was shown on Warwick's website at the time. No problem when played sitting down, and maybe if you have a short strap it would be OK
24.
But great bands who've thought about their image are even greater. Don't forget that most of your favourite bands who appear not to have an image, have very carefully and deliberately cultivated than "non-image". Which is an image in itself!
