1. That's Interesting I've used them for years and the last set of swing bass I fitted to my Jazz a few months ago seemed rougher than I remember. I thought that they were old stock or something. Maybe Rotosound have QC issues? I tried elites once but wasn't overly impressed. Any other suggestions for 45-105 stainless strings. Isn't there a sticky for this already elswhere here for strings?
 2. Markbass CMD102p. I replaced my 500w Hartke/Ashdown stack with it a couple of years ago. Brilliant! loud and Light
 3. Can I have another 3 then? John Entwhistle Duck Dunn Tony Levin
 4. James Jamerson Bernard Edwards Chuck Rainey
 5.
I don't doubt that these have made their way on to here before but I've just seen them for the 1st time and I'm blown away. (let them run for a minute and the magic will start)
Thanks for posting these again ou7shined. I have seen them before and have used the WGFA one to learn the bass part as we do it in my band. Great stuff isn't it? it surprised me along with all the pyrotechnics in the playing how many spaces and pauses he leaves. a masterclass in tasteful rock bass playing IMHO I may have mentioned on here before that it was seeing some footage of The Ox with his Explorer bass standing in front of a mass of Sunn cabs belting out mighty sounds that inspired me as a callow youth to want to be a bass player. Took until I was 40 something to finally play Wont get fooled with a band for real. i think we do a good job of it too! perhaps I'll post it here one day. Mike
 6.
...and his sh*tty trainers.
..and he was downright rude to me and my mate Steve.
 7.
Joe Frazier rnd 2 and Dixie are great tracks but nothing stands out in recent years. p.s. avoid "tears in heaven" like the plague !!!!! http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=aw3BV7V7ZbQ&...feature=related ..........Nuff said !
The GIT sign is very apt. Should have an arrow pointing right though.
 8.
He's a cock.
I can confirm this. Met him at a music show once showcasing the excellent Markbass amps. He was rude arrogant and unfriendly. I bought a Markbass amp a year or so later in spite of the miserable fat basstard. I gather his music isn't great either. He strikes me as one of these musician's musicians whose "stardom" only exist in guitar magazines, on forums and on their own websites.
 9. i'd give one of my kidneys to come up with a bass part like that.
 10.
caught this on sky arts the other night, pretty nice version of 'left of center' stripped down to just bass and vocals. peace c
thanks for this 3V17C Great bass on her albums curtesy of Michael Visceglia, lot's of good fretless on Solitude Standing. Plus I've always had a soft spot for her.
 11.
The Steely Dan 4CD box set is well worth the money, look out for it on EBay, it comes up for sale now & then. Cost me about £20 I think. Watch out for Nearly Dan, great covers band with some really good musicianship http://www.nearlydan.co.uk/gigs.htm What was the Wilton Felder album you were after? Was it Inherit the Wind? http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=b_BTq8e6M-k I'm sure I've got it kicking around somewhere - I'm a complete Bobby Womack nut so bought it purely for the fact the sang on it
+1 for Nearly Dan I've seen them a few times at The Jazz Cafe in Camden and as a total Dan fan I recommend them as a great night out,and they're really nice guys too.
 12. If I was still living in Willingham, just north of Cambridge, I'd be throwing my hat into the ring like a shot, having had a gander at your site. Great band. Groovetastic mate! But as I'm now based in Saffron Walden it's all a bit to far away for me for a regular slot in conjunction with my current but admittedly not very busy band. May be able to help out with the odd dep gig if you're stuck.
 13.
Err... you sure you haven't been booked to back Mr Astley himself?
I doubt that he could afford you.
 14.
Kenny still plays pub gigs and occasionally pops into the jam session I go to ..
Thanks Old git I'm not sure why I picked the name Lonestar when I joined Basschat ages ago when it was called something else. I have a Lonestar St**tocaster?? I'm beginning to think it's a bit sad really. I might have to change it to something sensible like my real name: Mike. You already have beaten me to the most appropriate name I could use!
 15.
ha ha Yeah well tahts what teenagers did back then Lonestar? Not a mate of Kenny Driscoll are you?
Sorry, can't say that I know him?
 16.
Sade's 'Smooth operator' Denmans line is brilliant, and I like playing it...i f***ing HATE the song AND Sade......Utter 80s soul toss
I'd second that (e)motion
 17.
My full on YES period was between the first album (the one with YES on it as apposed to "The YES Album" - oh that caused some problems when sent shopping ...) and Tales ... Laugh with me now children as we view one of the side effects ... The lyrics were always daft and /or pretentious and delivered with such full on "sincerity" that despite Jon's attempts to justify them as "sound pictures" etc we all still sniggered behind our hands .. His voice didn't help, a problem he shares with Geddy IMHO .. However I still put the CDs on and sing along
I think I replied to your post in another thread about good bassline/bad songs. We must be old git's of a similar age! I had them all from Yes> Tormato. I only have the Yes album on vinyl left now. I even had all of the solo albums of Yes members including Jon Anderson's Olias of Sunhillow. Oh dear!
 18.
Well the prize for brilliant bass and utter tripe lyrics just has to go to Yes .. "Battleships confide in me and tell me where you are, Shining, flying, purple wolfhound, show me where you are, Lost in summer, morning, winter, travel very far, Lost in losing circumstances, that's just where you are."
I couldn't agree more, although pointing out the absurdity of Yes lyrics is like shooting fish in a barrel! As a child of the 60's/early 70's I had all their records, and saw them several times. Mike
 19. Probably the most comprehensive set of pics I've seen on ebay
 20.
Get hold of Joni Mitchel's Hejira and listen to Jaco's work on that, esp. Refuge of the Roads.
I'd second that. Fantastic stuff Mike
 21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApI7YXQTVZQ...feature=related I don't think they were Woodbines or Senior service they were smoking! Melodic and clever bit of playing though.
 22.
SteveK are you sure about suggesting he play a minor 3rd scale (blues pentatonic) over a major 3rd chord (C7)? Also, isn't the alternating half-whole-step scale the octatonic scale? With the true diminished being stacked minor 3rds? That's how I was taught it anyhow! Dan
This sounds like another round of Mornington Crescent
 23.
That looks really nice, no wonder Jon's pleased with that blue. I was due to pop up there today myself to drop some bits off and check on progress but apparently it was a bit of a drop in session according to Jon. Looks like I might be up there next weekend, assuming I'm not overseas.
I want one too! That looks absolutely lovely and having spent just a few minutes canoodling with one of Jon's basses at the last bass bash, I'm sure it'll play and sound as good as it looks.
 24. Get yourself one of these > They're really good: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...ass_Direct.html
 25. Tricky choice: Ibanez basses are really good value in terms of build quality etc I've tried their SR range they're great. Can't say the same for the fret king as I haven't tried them although they look very well spec'd. You or your friend really needs to compare them. Good luck Mike p.s. My grandfather was from Kaunas!
