  1. I did say aim high but realistically i'm happy if we have a completely faultless gig I'll accept 1 mistake, 2 means punishment with the lash and 3 well you might as well pick up your jacket on way out. I jest of course. I think most bands will aim high but we won't achieve it every time. Dave
  2. Whenever i make a mistake i just turn round and look at the drummer. Takes the pressure off me. Is that not why we have drummers.........to take the blame for all mistooks. Dave
  3. We have an approach that if a mistake is made we carry on and if after the gig the person realises they made it and it was just a senior moment then job done. That's just human error and can't be helped. It doesn't need the band have a rehearsal to rectify. It just means someone goofed a bit and knows it. We never have a mistake where we are wondering WTF happened there. I think as long as the band are aware what happened and its not the norm then its sorted. Please don't get me wrong either and as a band Yes we make mistakes during a gig so i'm not saying every gig i play is spot on 100% perfect but its what we aim for. I don't think many bands will have a faultless year of gigs. Certainly not me. Dave
  4. Yep that's where i've always been. I've always aimed high. I hate to hear a band make a lot of obvious mistooks. I feel embarrassed for them. If i notice then others will too. I wouldn't go back to see a band that makes a lot of mistakes. Dave
  5. I aim for perfection but i know we'll never achieve it but i like to think we can get as close to as possible. The higher you aim the better the results for everyone. That's my theory anyways. I'm well aware that we will always make mistooks at a gig but hopefully the better you are will minimise the outcome. I'm so full of theories, others would call it something else but that's a different theory altogether. 🤣 Dave
  6. As long as the amps are well-built, reliable and come from a reputable company the country isn't a main concern for me. Mesa's quality control is one of the best, they use top grade components and for me that should mean reliability and less chance of something going wrong. I saw it in my first Mesa gear an Mpulse 600 that was approx 20 yrs old when i bought it 2nd hand and it has never let me down other than a crackling pot that was a simple skoosh of cleaner to fix. Everything about it just said quality. The new SW cabs i bought 3 yrs ago are the same. Solid well built cabs with speakers that can take anything i can hit them with. That is what Mesa means to me. Reliability, quality and one of the best tones i've ever had. Expensive ? YES but you get what you pay for in life. The TT800 i originally ordered 3 yrs ago was £1150 and now £1550. The WD800 from £1150 to £1299 which i don't quite understand but the TT800 is the amp i've been trying to buy for some considerable time and if that means paying more then i'm ok with it. I have to admit i'm a Mesa fan and love their gear. I associate quality with Mesa. Dave
  7. Its odd but i've experienced this too where audience seem to love every song, the band are enjoying and yet i hear things that aren't quite right and when i mention it i'm told "ach the audience will never notice that" but some do and historically we always aimed for perfection every rehearsal and gig. Luckily the same things don't happen every time but it does annoy me more than the rest of the band. Dave
  8. WOW another amazing amp for sale at dafty money. Also had the 600 and was sorry i let it go. Amazingly great amps. Unfortunately i'm about to push the button on an amp i've been trying to get for 3-4 yrs now and oddly enough its designed by the same guy that designed the streamliners. GLWTS Dave
  9. where in Wishaw Lee ? Found it ........ Bar 6. Have fun tonight mate and remember to breath in tight as it gets very tight in there when a band is on. Seems to be doing well and taking a bit of business away from Girdwoods these days. Mate from The Led Zep Story Jack Nimmo helps out a lot with bands in there and does a lot of jam sessions in it. Dave
  10. Yep i've driven that road. It aint great. Dave
  11. Ouch but she has the upper hand there i'm afraid. Don't envy you that one. Hope she was ok for her shift. Have to ask why she does a 14hr shift. I thought the max in any one day was 13hrs with 11 hrs away from work. Obviously NHS is under a lot of pressure and i'm guessing that's the reason. Dave
  12. Now that is a dream gig. Certainly beats 2.5hrs. Dave
  13. Life in a gigging band. Cannae beat it. Dave
  14. Sorry to hear this Dave. I'm assuming you've tried all sorts of meds etc to ease it as much as possible. Not much more i can say Dave. Hopefully you will stay with us on BC tho as you have a wealth of knowledge to offer us. Dave
  15. Lewis being the next village i just assumed you would know everyone in Harris
  16. Living the dream in Outer Hebrides. Got friends in Northton on Harris altho i haven't seen them in a lot of yrs but have stayed at their house a few times when it was just a holiday home but they now live there permanently. Donald drives some of the local buses now i believe. Dave
  17. So sorry to hear this @Gasman our thoughts are with you. Dave
  18. Superb stuff Neil. Good ending to this thread. Maybe you could post a NBD review on it for us all. Dave
  19. After gig its usually a request for photos, then a quick change from Glam to normal gear. Pack up, load cars, if not already done get paid, jump in car and open a bag of peanut M&M's for the drive home. Get home have a coffee and 2 tea biccies to dook, watch TV for a bit maybe 30mins max then bed calm, relaxed and tired. Dave
  20. That;s more or less what we use. Allen & Heath desks. We have 2 digital and 2 analogue ones. I large and one small from each type. We also have QSC K12's for Punk band or smaller gigs. KW153's for the Glam band and up to venues with 150-200 people and a pair of KW181 subs that we very rarely use. The 12's are fairly lightweight at 20Kg 15's are 40Kg Subs are 38Kg The sound from them all is superb altho i prefer the 15's for vocals. They just seem to produce a warmer overall tone but they are bulky and heavy but you wouldn't need bass bins with them. The 153 cabs are 3 way and can handle just about anything. I believe the 12's could handle a fair old bit as well but we only put vocals thru them. Dave
  21. @Bluewine i know you were looking into one of these. Seems like a good buy and you wont get a more honest BC'er than @EBS_freak. I'm stunned this is still here too. GLWTS Dave
  22. Course you can just turn the volume down and you'll be fine. Tasty looking amp. Bet its sounds thunderous. Don't see the 300W versions very often. If i didn't have the Handbox i would have gone for this. The CTM-100 was my 2nd choice but this would have had so much more headroom. GLWTS Dave
  23. I lug both the QSC KW153 Powered cabs at 40Kg each plus they are quite tall at 43" x 19" x 17" and awkward to lift and tilt into the back of an estate car. Lifting straight up and down is easy but walking a distance or the tilting thing is extremely hard on the old back. I also have lightweight Mesa cabs at 20Kg each so they are a skoosh to lift, i've even lifted one in each hand to the gig but that just makes it awkward getting thru doors Amp is a class D Ampeg SVT7 so that's a bonus too. My back up amp is now my Handbox WB-100 at 13Kg which aint too bad. I do have a portable trolley for all the cabs to be fair. We are looking for someone to help with the gear, ideally a SE who can do the PA and collect the Subs that we haven't really used cause we need a van if we take them. Think that ideal person is a dream wish list more than anything as i reckon people just don't do that these days. Dave
  24. When we started off we all agreed 2 gigs a month with Glam band. The punk band was doing much the same. Over past 2 yrs things have changed dramatically with both bands. Glam band is getting inundated with requests to book now and we are playing almost every weekend this year whereas the punk band is dwindling away as venues and audiences just aren't there. Lucky if we do a gig every 2 mths. Its that bad we no have to fit in a rehearsal before a gig as we haven't played for so long. Not sure where that's gonna end up. I have made it perfectly clear that if it starts feeling like a chore or a job then i'll probably walk away. Its a hobby for me that i enjoy and no more. Apart from Dec i won't do 2 gigs in a weekend as it is just too much for me as i keep the larger PA cabs and have to load and unload them on my own plus wearing all the glam gear makes you sweat a lot and a gig is quite tiring. If the gigs are nearby and PA supplied i'm ok with doing 2 in a row. Luckily i'm not the only one in the band that feels that way so at the moment things are good and i'm enjoying it. Dave
  25. Much the same here Daryl. I use Sat Nav these days so rarely get lost now. Hearing is ok with a little tinnitus but manageable. Rig issues on a regular basis altho more so with the sound effects board i use with Glam band. Bass rig i have forgotten the volume on occasion too LOL Can't say i've had the experience with the flashing altho a mates girlfriend used to do that every sat night after she had a few drinks and in those days girls didn't need a bra for support All pretty normal for us oldies Daryl. Maybe you're over thinking the age thing. Our drummer turned 65 last week and he's never given age a thought really until he saw the 65 on his birthday card and it dawned on him he was getting old but he's ok about it. At the end of the day i'm 64 and i still feel as daft as i did when i was in my 20's big difference is i'm sober these days Just forget the age thing cause you don't look 70 mate and enjoy life and the band. Life is for living not regretting. Dave
