  1. Our band is same, all from different areas so a single vehicle just doesn't work for us. If we need a van for our larger PA we hire one as a band but its only myself as the nominated driver and the drummer who lives 30mins drive from me. I ended up the nominated van getter and driver because i was retired and not working so pick up and drop off was easier for me. Obviously you guys have a lot more gear for the size of the venues you play. I know a few tribute bands that just turn up with their own backline and hire a PA and lighting either thru the theatres or a local reputable company. Dave
  2. You could add it to the fee i guess but pretty sure the venues wouldn't be too pleased. What you guys need is a single 7.5t truck. All the gear in one vehicle. Dave
  3. Sorry to hear you're having to give up one of your main hobbies Dave. Fully understand your thinking and i'll do the same when the time comes one way or another. Cracking bass too. I'm guessing its the wider neck. Pretty sure it won't last long here GLWTS. Take care. Dave
  4. Cracking venue Daryl. Well done sir. Dave
  5. Doesn't help when you get charged for the day up to midnight and again after midnight rather than just one charge for a single event. Not sure if you can get a permit that allows you one charge for both days ? Probably not. Glasgow council finances are in a poor state. Dave
  6. We've given up on Glasgow centre. Too difficult getting to venues and parking is a joke plus the ULEZ zone doesn't help for some of the band.
  7. Paisley has just changed its parking regulations so they'll have the wardens out trying to catch as many folks out before they get used to the new regs. Its a bit of a pain in Paisley as any time i've been there its never been "that" busy. Shame as it could kill off the town centre completely. I'm always worried about parking at The Cave in the road up to The Bungalow. Dave
  8. Aye you were lucky. All i can say is that you are a proper musician. Little niggly health issues just don't matter to a true professional. Dave
  9. He can still sing and play with a broken ankle. I toured with a broken ankle back in 80's. Just meant i couldn't lift any of the heavy gear (what a shame) plus i had to stand in same spot most of the night. There's a lack of commitment and dedication these days Dave
  10. Bought a Pinegrove leather strap from Paul. Absolute gent, posted Thu arrived Fri morning. Strap is like new and even included the small Levy's wireless pouch which was ideal as i have one on my current strap. Comms was perfect, couldn't ask for a better seller. Cheers Paul. have a great weekend of gigs up here in Dundee and Arbroath. Dave
  11. 100%. I use my Sandberg VM4 for Glam covers band. Been using it for past 5-6 years now. No other bass feels as comfy and versatile for what i do. I use my Sandberg MarloweDK in Punk covers band and again no other bass seems to work for me and i've tried several. I bought both of those basses specifically for those bands and they work. Tried Jazz, Precision, Overwater, Fender PJ and just not comfy with them. I recently bought a Godin Shifter Classic PJ bass and i love the tone from it. Used it on a Glam rehearsal and it worked ok. Gonna try it on Sun night gig with punk band and see how it works out. I'll have the Marlowe with me in case i'm not happy. Dave
  12. Sade Smooth Operator is a fantastic song. Nice bass tone. Dave
  13. Great song. What key are you doing it in. / If i remember right it was Eb tuning and played on the E. I played that in one of my very first bands just after taking lessons back in late 70's possibly 78. Happy days Dave
  14. I don't know enough about Alembics to comment but on TB a guy bought one for $700 but the elctronics had been replaced with something else and you can only get the original parts from Alembic and apparently cost a fortune. From what i've read the bass only sounds like an Alembic with the original electronics. The general consensus is that they are decent well built basses. Dave
  15. Great pic. All quite at home there. All that's missing is a nice cup of tea in your hand and a dooker in the other. Nirvana. Dave
  16. I've no idea, i'll google it to see.
  17. So how many of you googled what colour Scooby's van was Dave
  18. You have a purple van like Scooby Doo ? Dave
  19. I've not seen that finish to be honest. Really liking that. Dave
  20. I thought all Ric's had lacquered necks and fingerboards. ? Dave
  21. Is this still available ? Been looking at them on their website. Dave
  22. Don't think FB take anything to do with it. That's always been my impression and why i always take additional precautions before buying. Cash is king too and a bit of research on the item and the person selling is always a good idea. Never buy without seeing or trying unless you know the person. I quite fancied the idea of owning an Alembic but they are out of my price range even at this low price. Dave
  23. Its not something we do in our bands. Drummer owns the PA and majority of the lights. If we need to use the full PA with subs we need to hire a van and probably a sound guy but at the moment we use our backline with only vocals and bass drum thru the PA. In some venues with a supplied PA we all go thru it. My bass rig is loud enough to do most venues to be honest but i do find we get a bigger sound thru a PA. Not so much louder but more evenly spread around the venue. Lot of people have commented that we sound like how they remembered bands back in the late 60's early 70's so we're keen to try and keep it sounding like that. Not sure if that's down to us using backline rather than thru PA or its just "our sound". The full PA 2 off each cabs 2-way 12's, 3-way 15's and 18" subs all QSC with Allan & Heath digital desks. Dave
