Have you injured it or just age catching up on you. ? I always forget how old i'm getting. At 65 i get aches and pains i never used to get plus things take a lot longer to heal. Dave
-
My strap is quite thick, not sure i could get the straplock on over the strap but its worth a look tomorrow. I use the straplocks for quick changes if need be plus i can't slip a bass and strap over my head when wearing the Glam gear because of the long hair. It catches the hair under the strap. I need to put the strap over my shoulder and under the hair and then clip the bass to the strap. Dave

I'm guessing you have some back issues going on. I used to have problems but going to the gym past 4yrs seems to have resolved it. Old age isn't as easy as you'd think when you're a bass player. Good luck with your search @Lozz196 and keep us posted if anything turns up. Dave

From what i can see the Loxx straplocks look similar design to the Dunlop ones i had few yrs back but couldn't really take to the Dunlop ones. Dave

Cheers @Lozz196 with it being 2nd hand it was definitely worth the money. Based on what BF state i have to admit that i now have no worries about running my amps hard. At 1000W and able to take more according to Alex at BF then i'm pretty safe there. 😂 Dave Have you made your mind up about the Lionel bass yet. ? Dave

Would have posted an update on how it sounded at the gig but apparently someone complained the NCD was in the wrong forum of General Discussion. It was then hidden and only when i queried where it was that its now appeared in this forum. No idea who complained as its where many of us post NCD or NAD posts. Anyways the Cab worked a treat. An easy lift up 3 flights of stairs, fits my Gramma pad better because its not as deep so that was an added bonus. Sound wise it was fantastic, clear, deep and quite balanced tone across the range. Need to make a few little changes to EQ to get the mids more forward tho. I think my Mesa rig has a little more mid punch with the 210 cab. Not really much in it tone wise between the BF and Mesa cabs. Both 1st class bits of kit so i'll probably chop and change depending on the venue. Amp wasn't running flat out with Gain at 12 and master at 11 o'clock, Bass at 11, mid at 2 and treble at 11-12 o'clock. Would definitely recommend this cab. It just seems to do it all at circa 24Kg i think it weighs. One of the best cabs i've tried. Dave

I'll need to have a look at the Loxx ones as i've had a few schaller ones loosen off altho i noticed it during sound check so managed to tighten up. I now regularly check the strap locks and bass buttons as i've had them loosen too. Dave
-
Oddly enough i even keep a spare strap in my kit. I have a spare everything from bass, amp, until recent Barefaced cab i even had 2 cabs, even spare stage clothes. Nice to be prepared. Dave

Would love to have been there. I'm just 6 miles along the road plus my mate Eddie is bassist with Hotel Caledonia. Unfortunately we had a booking at Dundee. Great venue for a band. I've seen quite a few band nights in there including our very own @cetera with Dressed to Kill. Happy Days. Sounding good. Looks like a good night was had as the camera operator must have had a few. 😂 Dave

Just home from Gig in Beat Generator, Dundee. Horrendous drive home in rain with a lot of standing water. Gig was a bit quieter than last time but owner reckoned it was a bank holiday weekend and lot of folks away. Sold about 80 tickets tho and hall was approx half full so not too bad. This was a reschedule gig from just after Xmas when singer lost his voice so a lot of people there had tickets from Xmas. Enthusiastic audience up for a dance and having fun with the band. Owner loved it and wants to rebook us again. 3 flights of stairs has absolutely killed me tonight and a 2 hr drive home didn't make it any better. Sandberg VM4 Shure Wireless Keeley Bassist comp Handbox WB-100 amp Barefaced 212 cab that i bought last week. Sounded great on stage. PA support supplied by the venue. I need to tweak the amp EQ settings as its quite a different tone to my Mesa cabs. The Mesa 210 gives my tone a little more mid edge but thats just down to EQ and all should be ok. Have to say the Barefaced cab sounded fantastic. Very similar tonal quality to the Mesa rig but one cab made it an easy lift in. Dave Forgot i took these pre-show.

5.7ibs. that's no weight at all. Do you even notice you have a bass on ? 😂 Just curious but does it being that lightweight affect the tone at all ? Dave
-
Do you have to translate the transcript for them ? 😂 Dave

Maybe its been mentioned on TB Rob ? Dave

Good news travels fast on the interwebie thing. Dave

I'll be using it on Sat night but its just backline this gig but it will still be a good test. Looking forward to hearing it a gig without PA support. Dave

Saves carrying both my Mesa Subway cabs up those bloomin stairs. I aint getting any younger you know. 😂 The practice rig you used is the Mpulse 600 into my Mesa PH212 cab but both are quite heavy. Don't keep the Mesa Subway cabs in the house cause i'm getting lazy. I think the Barefaced cab sounds similar to the Mesa PH212 cab tho. Not much in it. The PH212 is better than the Subway cabs for tone IMO but not much in it either. The Barefaced is 24Kg same as one of my Mesa cabs so it just makes sense and having wheels on the back edge makes it easy to wheel once up those stairs. Not looking forward to the stairs but the gig should be great fun. Its a good crowd in Dundee or it was last time we played. Hope they all come back for more. Dave

100% he'll love it. My VM4 is my goto bass for everything. I did use the MarloweDK with the punk band but now that's finished its become my back up for the VM4. I have used it on occasion at a Glam gig and it works quite well. Guitarist likes the Marlowe and my wife says it sounds clearer than the VM4. No matter what they are superb basses @martthebass Dave

The very worst that can happen is you don't like it, have to send it back and then wait for your refund. But then again you could fall in love with it and job done. Is your glass half full or half empty decision. ? Good luck with whatever you decide. Dave

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
dmccombe7 replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
I'm a big Sweet fan but its all those high end backing vocals that Andy Scott did that make it difficult to replicate. All of Sweet were "properly trained" singers plus all that touring in their early days certainly makes you a lot better at what you do. Incredible band. Our drummer new the band and lived down the street from Steve Priest altho he was a bit younger and as a kid he said that Steve was "the guy that played in a band". He even had some drum lessons from Mick that to this day he is still in awe of Mick's abilities plus he was singing backing vocals at same time. He has some great Sweet stories from those days 😂 Dave -

I guess you can look at this in different ways. 1. Accept he's not up to your standards but he might be forced to improve himself over time if he's playing with better musicians. 2. You take the lead on the rhythm section and you drive the low end. Sometimes that can work. 3. Keep this drummer until a better one comes along. 4. Just tell him he's not suitable. Its definitely a lot easier if everyone is at a similar level and have a similar outlook with regards the band. My big concern with a drummer that is a bit loose is "will he put in the work to learn the songs." ? Maybe he's not been playing in a band for a while ? No matter what i wish you all the best and hope it works out for you. Dave -
thats where i bought my VM4 from and he gave me a great deal on it when i just phoned to ask about it. He offered to drop the price for me without me even asking. I like them. Its one of my fav shops. Love browsing it even just to see what they've already sold. Dave

Think all but one of my basses (Yamaha BX-1) are over 8.5lbsup to high 9's. My Overwater Custom 6er fretless will probably be heavier but i'm usually sitting down when i play it. Dave

Not quite new but in such good condition it looks new. Its one of the earlier 212 cabs i believe. Bought @eddbass cab from the for sale section yesterday. When i went to try it Eddie had it set up in his conservatory with a TC Staccato amp. Boy that thing was loud. All set flat same as the bass. He let me use his gorgeous Warwick Jack Bruce Signature Thumb bass to test the cab. Oddly enough i'm a huge JB fan from his session era with Cozy Powell etc. He was a big influence for me along with Neil Murray. Initial reaction after the volume was how deep and yet clear it was. The tone was even across the full bass range. No boominess anywhere and no high end shrill that i've experienced with some amp/cab set ups over the years when you boost the EQ on the bass. Loved it, bought it there and then. An easy one hand lift too so that was another huge bonus. Got it home and set it up with my Mpulse 600 and using my Geddy Jazz it just sounded so bloomin good. Left the amp with the same settings as with my Mesa PH212 cab but this sounded deeper and clear with every note. As i positioned myself around the bass cave (its a small box room so not a lot of space between Mesa rig, multi bass rack, filing cabinet, Hi-fi separates and my album and CD collections along one full wall) but if you stand to the side of the cab you can still hear it as clearly as standing in front of it. I've never experienced that with a cab before. The volume and tone remained the same even leaning over it and beside it. Its hard to describe that TBH. Its a very well built solid cab. Handles at each side and one on top and a set of inbuilt wheels at rear bottom edge to tilt and run more so on even floors i would imagine. Only one Speakon connector on the back. Not that i'd need to hook up another cab with this one as its fairly loud at 4ohm. My only minor criticism and its been rectified in newer models i believe is that having strap handles on the sides means it can't be stored securely on its side in the car so i may put some small rubber feet on one side fixed to the corner metal protector screws. Might need to use slightly longer screws but that's fine. Doing it this way means no other holes drilled in cab for extra feet. That way it will sit flat on its side in the car. Other than that i can't fault the cab. Will use it at Beat Generator gig in Dundee this coming Saturday to give it a proper test but i'm confident its gonna work a treat. I think i may be a BF convert after this cab. Dave

Is a custom order direct to Sandberg out the question with a limit on the weight being an essential part of the order. ? Dave
-
I see where you're coming from now. That's left you with quite a narrow band to choose from. Is 2nd hand market a better option where the seller will weigh it before you buy sort of thing. 7.5ibs is quite a lightweight bass. Is it hollow bodied ? Hope you can find what you're looking for @Lozz196 Dave
