Its also allows a faster change-over. Dave

Yep good point. Not sure i could sit in that section. Dave

Good food thrown in is always a big plus Daryl. We always take our own sandwiches and juice etc but we regularly get offered the buffet at private parties but having already eaten we don't bother too much. There's always a McD's option on the drive home. 🤩🍟🍔 Anyways i thought you had a steady girlfriend ? Dave

That's ridiculous having a VIP area like that. From a band point of view you want proper fans down the front and the rich elitist "look at me" lot should be to one side if at all. Fine for huge stadiums but not a marquee tent. Just seems a bit pretentious of the organisers IMO. Dave

I'll need to have a closer look at what he's using cause now i'm not sure if its triggers or small mics of some kind. He doesn't have any control boxes if its triggers but i don't know how they work. When we use a PA hire they always use mics to every drum. Dave
-
you know more than i do so please keep the advice coming. Dave
-
He normally has a small clip on thing that attaches to each drum rather than full mics, except for bass drum where he prefers a proper drum mic. I'm no expert in all of this and tend to leave him to it. Dave

To be fair the desk was working fine until he decided to mic all the drums up and something changed. The big advantage i saw was that we could store the settings for each venue. I think you need to be operating these desks regularly to keep on top of them but unfortunately we play venues with their own PA's or we have hired a PA company for some. Before the drums were added we only had vocals and sound effects thru the PA. Everything else was backline even in larger 200 capacity venues. It just seemed to work for what we were trying to copy from early 70's when sounds was a lot simpler 😂 Dave

That would be a good night in this club. Its a decent size with a good stage area too. Dave

Easthouses Miners near Dalkeith. A nice venue and staff very friendly and helpful too. I'm more used to old analogue desks. We've been using a pa hire company on a few gigs and will be going down this route from start of next year. At the moment we're half and half so not using our own desk every gig. Dave

Last night was our first gig in 4 weeks but things starting to build up as we head towards Christmas. 🎅 65th birthday party, always difficult at these trying to motivate the audience to dance but we had dancers up early and altho not a full floor it was encouraging. By the end of the night we had the floor pretty full. Considering we haven't played in weeks the band was spot on. One or two very minor mistakes that only we would notice so that was good. Had trouble with drums going thru digital desk. We were getting incoming signals but nothing going out the front. We eventually managed to get drummers vocal mike going and then his bass drum but we were now at doors open time and had to leave it at that and get the sound check done. Digital desks are way over-complicated for my liking but it looks like part of his grouping or his drum presets are somehow muting. Overall everything was well balanced out front tho. Bigger venue than we expected with a decent sized stage so all good there. The tone i had was spot on for me. Deep but not boomy with that little bit of growl when digging in. That Handbox WB-100 and Barefaced 212 set up is just sublime. Used the Sandberg VM4 with MarloweDK as back up. Dave

Come on Daryl. Its sad when your highlight from a gig is the food but i get and appreciate where you're coming from. 😂 Dave
-
Seems an odd positioning of your bass cab there @tubbybloke68 ? Angled inwards towards the drum monitor rather than out front. Any particular reason. Just curious. I do like those Yamaha TRB basses. Dave

I've heard you guys. No-one is a few notches above you guys. Dave

And everything is good again Daryl. Dave

Don't make him feel any more embarrassed than he already does Steve. 😂 Dave
-
We all learn from our mistakes Daryl. Bet you won't do that again 😂 Dave

Keep romance out of the workplace Daryl. Its never gonna end well for either party. 😂 Dave
-
Same here Daryl, i'm just a bass player 😂 Dave
-
I used to but these days not so much. Well never really. Dave

If its working, don't change it Daryl. Think you're under-selling your importance in the band. Good reliable bass players with a personality that's easy to get along with are few and far between (except for BC members of course). The main reason bands replace someone is usually because they are unreliable and not putting in the work. Most bands i know are happy to come and go a bit if someone is struggling a bit whether thru age or injury. You're doing just fine so stop sweating it. You're a good'un. 👍 Dave

Yep i've been in that situation a few times but always been amicable as far as i can remember. I did leave an amazing Deep Purple & Friends tribute band because the guitarist and the keyboard player were almost fighting and it was close to blows at a rehearsal. They were all from a very rough area of Glasgow. An area i would never go near under normal circumstances. I decided this wasn't for me and there and then said i'd had enough, packed up my gear and said i'm not prepared to be in a band that behaves like this. The singer and the guitarists brother who was listening at rehearsals both tried to coax me to have a think about it first. The band were good but not for me. After 6mths they got in touch and asked if i would come back as they couldn't get a replacement that plays the way i do. Nice compliment and i did return but the guitarist wasn't learning his solos for the rehearsals and i eventually said this wasn't going anywhere now and its just not for me. I had nothing lined up to fall back on. This was 2012-13. All of the band remained in touch except the guitarist who took a huff but for me he was the issue in the band. It was his band too. Don't think i was in another proper band again until 2016 when i retired from work. That was the first Glam band. Dave

Ooohh that's an interesting one Daryl. From memory i don't think i left for another better opportunity. I have left bands because things weren't ideal for me. I've left bands mainly because they weren't working but punk band faded away because the Glam band was getting busier so i guess that's similar. I was replaced in a band because i auditioned for an already gigging band. I did actually get offered the job but refused it when i found out they wanted to do midnight recording sessions on weekdays when i was working in morning at 7am. That was never gonna happen. Wish they had told me this upfront. Dave

Can't get the link to open @Si600 Dave

I think it was well known that Lizzy tuned down to Eb. Or so everyone told me back in the day. No social media in them olden days 😂 Dave
