  1. Storyville by Robbie Robertson arrived today so listening to some of that. His 1st album arrived on Sat so its a week of Robbie Robertson for me. Dave
  2. Not really got that many to be honest. In 80's i just joined a great 3 piece rock band and we played a large gig with no stage. We set up on dance floor with monitors separating us from dancers. Singer / guitarist was quite full of himself but when we played the first song all the females ran on to dance floor ............right in front of me. None in front of him. It was so blatant and so funny i had a right giggle. He was furious. Worst moment in same band was doing a well known Rock venue in Glasgow and we did Crossroads by Cream but unknown to me the singer and drummer decided to stop and let me do a bass solo on the spot in front of a very busy venue. I was mortified as had never rehearsed one not even in my head. They were there just laughing as he announced "the talents of our new bass player" I did it and was complimented at the end by a few of the crowd including a couple of girls. Pity my girlfriend was with me that night. I did a charity event in 80's when i had my WAL bass. The singer / bassist (backing vocalist with Hue & Cry at the time who was a mate) asked if he could use my WAL. He did a cover of Michael Jackson that was pretty good. At the end he handed me the bass back and said it kept going out of tune. I then pointed out it was a lined fretless. He was playing in between the lines. He did feel a bit daft for not picking up on it. He was a very competent guitarist too. I was once asked to do a song with a band i didn't know. They were having an impromptu jam session where they would bring one member of audience up to take over whatever instrument for a song. My mates put me forward for Alright Now. Had never learned the song before so was playing it from memory. It was great fun and went down really well. The bit that really stood out was that i managed to do the correct bass riff from the mid section. Dave
  3. Yep that's the version i'd probably go for. Dave
  4. I like them on sunburst P basses with Rosewood necks but then again i'm retired and drive a Volvo too. Has that cat been in the litter tray...............naw its me Dave
  5. Obviously gonna be a very subjective topic. when you say boring do you mean looks, sound or just generally everything about them. Some basses i find boring to look at but they sound good enough. Ibanez basses in particular i find boring to look at but having owned a couple over the years they are well made and good to play basses with a variety of usable tones. I find this general shape of bass boring to look at. I find humbucker style pick ups have a boring tone and lack the warmth of P or J pick ups. Its all down to personal taste tho
  6. I really like that even tho i'm generally not a fan of aged basses. That just looks very nice. Well done finding that one. Dave
  7. Maybe the larger shops have a blanket insurance covering damage in shop or during postage for a sale. Dave
  8. That's rather nice. If you keep using that configurator site you'll go blind. Dave
  9. That's why i checked with fellow BC'ers as to who was reckoned best to use both for ease of use and cost and if any issues how they were dealt with and whether or not the item was actually insured for the full value. Some companies take your insurance money and then fire you the small print that says no musical instruments or electronic goods and don't pay out. P4D came out best for everything and i've had no issues using them. They are a middle man and use different couriers but they do the insurance themselves and you would claim P4D rather than the courier. I have to say i don't post many items tho. I'm still paranoid and would rather drive couple hundred miles and meet up if its possible. Dave
  10. I'm on the fence with that one. Did look at it for my 70's Glam Rock band but mmmmmmm not too sure . Dave
  11. Definitely agree. Amazing bass tone but his voice has something about it.
  12. I was recommended P4D by people on BC who insure the amount you select. Some don't cover musical instruments or electronic equipment, some up to value of £100. For a bass at less than £200 it won't cost that much but you should advertise that postage incl insurance is extra unless you want to cover that cost. I would always insure a bass or an amp. Dave
  13. wouldn't be me mate. she's nothing but a chancer. I guess it gives you peace of mind more than anything else. Dave
  14. That's smashing. I could go for that if i was in the market for a Jazz bass. Dave
  15. That's very very nice. Would probably go passive only but liking that a lot Dave
  16. I enjoy the the smaller gigs with just vocal PA. When we play bigger venues i'm nominated van hirer and driver so i have the drummer to pick up and drop off. He has the PA systems and lighting rigs. It becomes a very long day. I need to drive 25miles to pick up a van, get home for bite to eat and then pack my own gear, go to drummers and the 2 off us pack his drums, PA and lights then off to the gig. Others drive themselves. Reverse of all that on way home with me getting to my house around 3am when i need to unload my own gear. Usually having a coffee before going to bed for a few hrs then back up early morning to take van back before its due time. I don't miss that type of gig. Band have said to now hire the van an extra day to let me get a decent sleep but i grudge paying for a van to sit in my drive for a day doing nothing. Best gigs we've had were the 1 hr support slots. Turn up with my bass, plug into main bands amp, do the show and go home again usually home by 11-12pm. That's a great wee night and a decent wee payment for no real work. Dave

  18. Lockdown didn't start until Mon 23rd Mar i think. I do recall it was just after my birthday on the 21st. More than enough time to check the sax herself and as you say get in touch with you to say something isn't quite right with it. Some shady people around. Dave
  19. I'm no sax player but surely she would have spotted any irregularities in the sax when she first got it. Right to ignore her. Perhaps report her to ebay ? not sure if that's an option tho Dave
  20. Yep nice looking bass. Don't know much about Zoot basses but that's nice. Look forward to seeing your completed bass Dave
  21. Best Fender P bass i've tried recently in a shop was the Vintera P bass which i think are made in Mexico and it was £850. It was far nicer to play with a superior neck feel than the other P basses in Guitar Guitar including the US versions at £2k ish. Dave
  22. Current band finally settled down to being a 4 piece after trying out various keys guys. We had done a few gigs around Xmas and this years diary was starting to look good with our last gig start March. All gone now and by looks of it same for rest of 2020. I'm missing the gigs mainly because we've put a lot into the band with regular rehearsals and polishing the set for it to be knocked in the head. Hopefully it will pick up again soon. Dave
  23. Had a look and its guaranteed great quality so i've just ordered it too. Thanks for the heads up on that one @police squad Dave
  24. 2nd hand so won't know what condition its in. Prefer to buy new. Have to admit that the first album sounds a lot better to me. Dave
  25. Had a listen to Storyville and saw some comments that his first album was actually better called Robbie Robertson. Gave that a listen and agreed. Only £6 compared to £18 for Storyville. Ordered his first album and will wait till Storyville price drops a bit. Dave
