  1. Listening to this 4 CD compilation album of Prog bands and this track stood out for me. Reminded me a bit of Kansas but really enjoyed this.
  2. That's what i do too. I usually play thru and with the song 2-3 times to get a feel for it first. Then i get the music tabs etc and look at youtube clips for the tricky bits that are sometimes missed on bass tabs. Once i'm happy i have it all i write it all out note for note for my own files. That way it helps me remember what i wrote as well as having learned it by ear or tabs. Maybe a bit overkill but i keep my notes just in case i ever need them again. Zep basslines are amazing even tho i'm not a huge Zep fan. Dave
  3. Always thought Delicate Sound of Thunder tour was far better sound quality plus Guy used his Spector bass for his solo and it had a fantastic tone. I found his tone on Pulse a bit more mellow. I had the old video of DSOT but couldn't find it on DVD. Dave
  4. God luck wie that one mate.
  5. Oddly enough i bought the CD at the time and wasn't aware it was Guy playing on it either. Maybe i did at the time and just forgot. Dave
  6. enjoyed that. liked the story behind where the bass line came from. Always nice to know the thinking behind a song. Guy is perfect for doing VID demo's Great voice and his playing is first class covering so many different styles over the years. And he's such a nice guy. What's not to like. Dave
  7. I'm retired anyways Blue. Living in countryside life hasn't changed that much for me. At least i'm getting the garden tidied up before summer this year. Its almost complete. I miss my trips to Costa coffee to watch the world go by or even the occasional lunch. Our band only gigs every couple of months due to other member commitments. I def miss my rehearsals tho Was a bit concerned for people like yourself who rely on gigs to survive. Our singer who does a lot of solo gigs on a weekly basis is looking at other jobs like stocking supermarket shelves at night to make ends meet. Health wise we are all good. Dave
  8. Just add the cancelled gigs onto the end of the ones you can manage this year. As much as its difficult i'm trying to take a positive slant on what's happening. I'm assuming the clubs, venues, events will all still be looking once this ends. We don't play a huge amount of gigs but we will just take up where we left off once this dies down a bit and start re-arranging any cancelled gigs as soon as the venues can take us. No point in being down on it. Dave
  9. Hopefully the gigs will still be there when it gets back to some sort of normality. How are you surviving without gigs Blue. ? Dave
  10. Historically never been a huge McCartney fan but had a notion for a greatest hits album. Bought this few days ago. Some of my favs are Jet, Band On The Run, Silly Love Song, Let Him In,
  11. Found this while browsing youtube music clips and thought it kind of appropriate
  12. Would be funny if he sits at the next desk to you.
  13. In Too Deep or maybe it was all just a Misunderstanding. Mama will know when Suppers Ready. Dave
  14. Love the bass. That would be one of my choices in a P bass. I'm guessing its not the same Mr Oliver that does the cooking things. Dave
  15. Yep right way round. I'm just a teenager at heart doing my 70's Glam Rock thing in the 2nd pic. Dave
  16. Me mid-80's Me last end last year 2019
  17. Enjoyed that. Great song for a cover.
  18. 47 Just a boy @Lunatique but well done getting back into bass again. its been my hobby for 45yrs now. I'm not a genius or master bass player but i get along ok and enjoy what i do. As i've gotten older and back into playing in bands again at age 50 i've found i'm not trying to impress people / bands with fancy tricks and solos. I just play whatever the song needs whether originals Prog or my current 70's Glam Rock covers and its more relaxed now. I do like to push myself a little at home tho mainly to retain my stamina when playing longer gigs. Dave
  19. i just downloaded Rhythm stick tab as i keep meaning to learn it too. Not heard of Sir Duke so gonna google that one. Dave EDIT :- Stevie Wonder and i do recognise it now. Just didn't know that's what it was called
  20. And i bet there are some great stories to tell. Hard graft but must be very rewarding to see the finished product.👍 Dave
  21. Might be worth mentioning what style of music you play. If i remember right @mcnach you tend to favour a Reggae / Ska low end tone. Correct me if i'm wrong there. Just in case others are looking for a brighter top end twang. Every little bit of info can help people decide if its for them or not. Personally i have everything flat on mine and both pick-ups on centre position. If anything i will boost the bass a touch but tend to use my amp for most of it. On occasion i've moved a touch towards the humbucker depending on what i'm doing. I've tried the full active P on its own but just prefer the centre position which gives me that little bit more mid tone. My curent tone is pretty nuetral in the mix tho which is what i was looking for in my current band. Not to everyone's taste but i love it. Great basses to play tho. Dave
  22. Bowie Ziggy Stardust. Lot of wee fiddly bits to learn for next rehearsal. Trevor Bolder does so many hidden gems in his bass lines. Love it, always have done. This is the first time i've ever played it in a band. Dave
  23. Your career seems to have gone round the houses a bit there but you've ended up doing a job that must be quite rewarding. Well done. Dave
  24. Retirement is brilliant. I finished up 4 yrs ago at 55 and loving it. Dave
  25. I've tried that with flats and its pretty close and sounds like some P's i've heard but the classic P sound i have in my head it isn't quite there. I would say that when playing live it would be difficult to tell the difference if at all. For me the VM4 is a far better built bass with a fantastic neck. You also have the added bonus of going active if required using that humbucker gives a nice mid boost to the P pick up. Dave
