1. Well the major defect has been fixed but it'll probably take everything a little while to catch up with itself.
2.
Sellers can still mention their items in other people's general topics and I have seen posts such as "What is the value of my bass" etc. Are these infringements against site rules too?
We're looking at these sort of topics on a case by case basis. It really depends on intent. Provided we are convinced that there is no intention to circumvent the Marketplace T&Cs then we're obviously happy to let these run. If we feel that the thread is being used to circumvent the T&Cs then we will intervene as necessary.
3.
The inability to bump your own wanted ad makes the section pretty useless. Que people putting up new ads every time instead, as has already started to happen.
Well as I have previously said, the Moderation team will assess how effective this change has been at some point, but until we can spend some time doing that, this is just how things are.
4. I don't get what all the original furore was about quite honestly. It was a Squier Jazz Bass with a non standard pickup and a couple of easily fixable cosmetic issues for pity's sake.
5. A mixture, predominantly the former though.
6. The prolific offenders range from people offering an entire list of items through to people offering items that weren't even listed as wanted. Before anyone tells me that there aren't any ads like that, we've spent days removing them. By not having a reply option the 'offers' have to be sent via PM, thus removing the audience for those seeking to get a free advert at the expense of everyone else.
7. I'd do musical mates a favour, but I certainly wouldn't pay to do that favour. I'm surprised that they had the cheek to ask quite honestly!
8.
If there's moderators here, let them moderate the dodgy posts and leave the legit ones alone.
You really think we didn't try that first?
9. It really depends on how thorough the repair was. I had an HA3000 with dry joints (it has been a Hartke quality issue on several occasions) and spent several hours desoldering and resoldering every joint. It did another two years of live use before I retired it to 'backup' amp. It got used a few weeks ago for the first time in about 18 months and it worked fine.
10. I've tidied this thread up following that little outburst.
11. Righto folks. There is a confirmed fault and it's being investigated.
12. Mine stopped on the 24th - I rarely check them unless I need to so I hadn't noticed. It's a bit like trying to diagnose an engine fault without lifting the bonnet, but I'll have a play about in a bit and see if I can find an explanation.
13. Well sorry chaps, if the workaround doesn't work for you then I'm pretty much out of suggestions at the moment.
14. Bluejay has had the same problem. I don't have the necessary access to work out 'why' it's happening, but the workaround is to unsubscribe from notifications, save that setting and then resubscribe and save again. I've only had positive reports back, so the workaround seems to be a good one.
15.
I'm 56 years of age and I dislike DJs as much now as I did when I was 17. I've always hated nightclubs (with DJs),hated discos and pubs with piped music and always loved a live band.
+1 apart from the age.
16. Crikey! The last time I saw this much action in the Recording section was when they decided that wax was no longer a good recording medium...
17. I shan't be reading it. I'd rather undergo elective surgery.
18.
What are the new rules regarding restricting replies to wanted ads?
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/219087-items-wanted-restriction-on-posting-replies/
I must have missed it, but I have noticed less wanted ads lately - is that the reason?
I very much doubt it will have affected the number of legitimate 'Wanted' ads but it will have had an impact on those trying to bypass the Marketplace.
19.
So no bumping, except for mods. That doesn't seem fair or equitable .
I have found the solitary 'bump' in question and removed it.
20.
I was told by a MOD to uncheck the email notification in my profile, then recheck it and it would be fine. Sure enough it worked. No idea why though.
Yep. It works, but I don't know why... something I find almost as annoying as it not working in the first place...
21. I'd go for about 350°C for normal work and crank it up to 400°C for the pot casings. If you're feeling unsure, have a practice on some scrap cable and an old pot before you start. There's a good thread here about soldering pots - http://basschat.co.uk/topic/110170-dull-solder-joint-why/page__hl__soldering
22.
... but clicking the "Compatibility view" button is slightly cheaper
The reported issue is related to the version of IE10 shipped with W8. The upgrade from W8 to W8.1 is free and is bundled with IE11. IME, using compatibility view has a tendency to screw up the page layout, although I do see extra 'stuff' on my version of BC as a Mod.
23. I can't stand jazz, it's one of the few genres that I point blank refuse to play unless I'm getting paid to do it.
24. An Overwater Perception 5. I had an OP4 a few years ago but moved it on because '5' is my default setting nowadays and it was just gathering dust.
