1. I hate being complimented and just switch off, nod and smile. I've been gigging for well over 35 years now and am well past the need for affirmation. A recent one did make me laugh though: I was depping for a rock band and, at the end of the gig, I overheard a conversation between the singer and a friend of mine. Singer: "He has got to be the best rock bassist I've ever heard" Friend: "He's not a rock bassist." Singer: "What is he then?" Friend: "He's a folk musician, I thought you knew?" Singer: "He's a f*****g what?!?" Friend: "He plays in folk bands" Singer: "You are f*****g kidding me!?!" I wandered off at that point and never heard the outcome of that conversation, but I joined the band as their permanant bassist a few months later and have been with them for about 2 years now. I have to say though, bassists watching me is enormously funny. They seem to fall into two distinct camps: 1) Enthusiastic and wanting to know exactly what I'm using to 'get that sound' (I just twiddle the knobs till it sounds right, don't faff about with pedals and concentrate on playing and not falling off the edge of the stage.) 2) Stand there glaring.
2.
Predictive text. If I played with wireless system at home, surely the licence law does not apply. Or does it?
Yes You may own your home, but you don't own the frequency spectrum.
3. What is all this fascination with feeler gauges these days? If it feels right and it doesn't rattle, then it is right.
4. 100V line systems were dependant on two transformers. The one at the amplifier end stepped the voltage up to 100V. In a speaker designed for 100V usage, there is another transformer in there to drop the 100V back down to a usable level. The 100V is used purely as a 'carrier' for the audio signal.
5.
Actually, just remembered, that's FOUR drummers I've been out with. Will I never learn?
And people reckon drummers can't count...
6. Something certainly went awry with notifications earlier - I had a whole pile of them and I don't even use them - I even had one for the Football Thread and you couldn't actually pay me to read the contents of that. Whatever it was, it seems to have rectified itself now.
7.
You mean there's more bits to find?
8.
Although, randomly, since it came back I've stopped getting email notifications for PMs and replies. I guess it can only be a coincidence, and it's probably just me, but... anyone else noticed the same?
Will you lot please stop looking for stuff thats broken...
9.
...and we're back :-)
Yep - Cisco were nice and rushed it through for us as they agreed it was a false positive.
10. I've been poor for years. I'll take a look and see if I can get us reclassified. I'm 99% certain that it was a false positive anyway, so an in depth check wouldn't harm...
11. Possibly, I'm not a ScanSafe subscriber. I get the impression that once the site is on the list, it needs a subscriber to manually remove it or else every scammer and his dog could just take their names off when they get blocked.
12. I had a Skype interview last year, never tried it before. Despite working in IT, I found it absolutely horrid. The human interaction just isn't there.
13. It will. Once the site ends up on the database it can only be removed by your network admin.
14.
Last time I took notice, Dave Pegg, who must be pretty much the icon of such behaviour, was using an Ibanez SR 5 string.
Yep, he still uses them. I was talking to him quite a few years ago (lovely chap) and we were reminiscing about 'gear we'd owned' and we'd both gone down very similar paths. Started off with Fender, wandered into Japanese brands, drifted back to Fender and then ended up with Ibanez. Very versatile instruments, nice and light and if you like skinny/fast necks you should definately try one out.
15.
Place your bets on a duplicate account!!
Not taking that bet, and you're spot on.
16. I can remember 'managers' like this. They were totally ineffective and only got away with it because they'd shout anyone down who challenged their stupidity. You do not get the best out of people by bullying and threatening them and any manager today who thinks this sort of behaviour is in any way effective or productive is liable to be an ex-manager or filing for bankruptcy in the not too distant future. BHS are already there and Sports Direct getting there won't be a massive surprise. A managers inate 'ability' is immaterial, if they can't attract and retain talented people then they are left managing nothing.
17. Anything that involves movement has a finite life.
18. Well, looking at how WBRS works, Basschat itself should pass WBRS without a problem. I'm guessing it saw an inline advert it wasn't keen on and blocked the site automatically. As it's a cloud based service, anyone using the standard setup of ScanSafe will see the site as blocked. The way round it is to get one of the IT Admins to whitelist the site, nothing we can do from this end as far as I can see.
19. I'm guessing you're all using Scansafe as a SaaS service via BT. I checked the site through a connection with a Juniper on it, and it went straight through. There's no sign of anything untoward having been added to the site so, in the absence of any further detail, I can only conclude that it's either a false positive, or Scansafe saw an inline advert that it didn't like. If anyone can get some detail of what Scansafe actually saw, that'd give me a bit more to go on...
20. Cab sold, amp still for sale.
21.
Seriously, was that intended to be offensive ?
Hard to tell, it was six years ago...
22.
Something makes me think we have a couple of banned members opening new accounts. The other stroppy git banned recently, also had only a few posts.
Well spotted guys and spot on. Night night Kerry.
23.
Evidently we need to kick our guitarist's arse as he lives in Leicestershire and hasn't got us any gigs yet.
Not too hard though, there's often quite a walk between pubs...
24.
In Leicestershire £250-300. There are cheaper paying gigs to be had, but we won't do them
Same county as me. Yeah, £250 to £300 for the pubs, a few of them pay a little bit more once they get to know you, but that's a pretty standard rate for this area.
25. If you just change everything in sight then you end up with something different to what you started out with and will quite likely devalue the item .
