Absolutely! As a massive Carole King fan, ‘Pleasant Valley Sunday’ is up there as one of my all time favourite songs. Lots more of their stuff is great too, including ‘Last train to Clarksville’ and ‘A little bit me..’

I've been buying the i paper since it's launch, and always find it an excellent read. Concise and balanced format, well worth 60p / £1 on Saturdays.

Sold out theatre in Sussex last night, cracking audience and a great sounding room. Really enjoyed the gig, as did the rest of the band, with everyone playing spot on. Thought I’d try using my spare amp, a GK MB200, instead of my usual GK 1001RB. Been thinking of selling it to fund something else, but am now not so sure - it sounded great! Only supposed to be giving 140 watts into my GK Neo 410, but coped brilliantly well with no lack of headroom (or heft...😄 ). What to do.....

I like the tone of his voice on some of the Soft Cell stuff, but for me he’s always struggled with his pitching when singing live. Some people can get away with this ( Jimmy Webb, Burt Bacharach, Rod Stewart maybe ), but for me Marc isn’t one of them.

I agree, although don’t remember them in that colour - looks like what became known as 7-Up green but Fender called it Candy Green I believe. Still, nice colour IMO!

Could well be a Clapton Strat body in 7-Up green, although can't see the EC signature on the headstock . Eric would definitely not entertain a roller nut either 😄

Mate of mine has just got one of these and he loves it. 50% cheaper than the Guild , same strings and scale length I believe. Seems to be well made with all mahogany build, though laminated throughout unlike the Guild and the Taylor which have solid tops. Sounds and plays sweet, a nice compromise between a uke bass and a standard scale acoustic/electric. One of my favourite 60's pop tunes, and also one of those rare occasions when I prefer the cover to the original ( by Robert Knight ) although please let's not even go there for the Jamie Cullum racket... The Love Affair's version is an absolute classic - great vocal from a 17 year old Steve Ellis, with an interesting bassline and brass arrangement too. Fab drums at the triangle bit as well. Apparently the rest of the band didn't play on the hit , CBS used session musicians instead to create a classic recording.

Haven't been to this one, didn't even know it was on! Been to other shows run by Mojo, and like most guitar shows they do tend to be a bit bass light. I often go to the events run by Northern Guitar Shows, the next one being in November at Aintree Racecourse. http://www.guitarshows.co.uk/ You never know though, you may find something bass-wise should your son not want something too expensive in Strat world, although I wouldn't hold your breath...😉

Went to see Chatham County Line last night at The Met in Bury. Superb bluegrass band from North Carolina, amazing musicianship and stunning vocals. Upright bass sounded fantastic, played by Greg Readling. Brilliant venue too, first time I've been.

Played a large function last night in Derbyshire at an old hotel. 350 guests, long narrow stage, high ceiling in the room so acoustics were dreadful. Our 6 piece band was put together for the event, but 4 of us used to play together years ago so was a great chance to catch up. Our sax player was doing this gig, then going to start a tour the next day in Glasgow , supporting Saxon! Musically it was a bit hit and miss, but we got a good percentage of the audience up to dance at some point so think it went okay. Lots of hanging around so plenty of time to drink and socialise! Also on with 3 ladies who did a vocal act during the meal, 40’s style harmony stuff which went down well. Event finished at 1am, me and the guitarist then loaded out the PA and our gear ( thank god for my BF Compact ) and got in at 3.30am. Must admit I’d forgotten how tiring these sort of gigs can be, guess it’s my advancing years not helping either. Still, Sunday night gigs are not that common so was glad of the work. Day off today though, need it to recharge my batteries after 5 gigs this week.
