Mooching abbout on youtube looking for Feelgoods covers came across this. Even with its obvious faults its gorra be one of the best, if just for the spirit of it. Better than some of the current line up feelgoods stuff thats on there. Even the drummer looks like he's having a good time. Its funny i should stumble across this thread! I just recently got this Behringer 180 watt kickback combo for small pub gigs, its not brilliant but Digital Villiage are knocking em out for 150 quid!
Agree with you on Baggy Trousers...
I have to take my hat off to Mark "Bedders" Bedford for that bassline though, he was only about 18 or 19 at the time! I would have never have come up a line like that at that age, and those pounding quarter notes

Has anyone had to learn a bassline to a cover? and sat down to listen to it and thought to themselves "That sounds tricky!" only to find out, when you,ve tried to play it, it is, infact quite simple? Here is my top 5 candidates.. 1. Monday - The Jam 2. Down In The Sewer - The Stranglers 3. Everybodys Got Something To Hide - The Beatles 4. Baggy Trousers - Madness 5. London Calling - Clash I,m not just talking about finding the notes on the fretboard, but also the timing and the feel too!
I read somewhere that Harrison didn't like the bassline at all, too fussy, too many notes. I've always thought it a classic myself though.
Thats actually a true story, if you get a chance to listen to George do "Something" on the "Concert For Bangladesh DVD, take a close listen to Klaus Voorman on bass, he keeps it much simpler while retaining some of the melodic runs as well!

Take a listen to Hey Bulldog and savoy truffle for some less familiar stuff by The Beatles, the bass is almost the lead instrument!
How long would fingernails have to be before they affect playing?
Not very long at all! I'm a finger player and keep my nails real short, and as soon as I get that percussive clicky sound of the nails hitting the strings its time to cut 'em!

I recently had to learn "Nowhere Man" and eventually figured it out, as the bass was buried in the mix (or my crap stero) and found it quiet fun to play. A lot of nice little chromatic runs and 8th notes he was only about 21 or something back then so I take my hat off to him. However, I do agree that he is up his own arse these days!

Horace Panter played some great bass lines, and was always leaping about and jumping around the stage! some of his better bass lines were recorded with him 2 feet off of the ground! Check out the Old Grey Whistle Test DVD!
