1.
No real advice but best if luck with the band. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks very much rOB! If it comes off, I certainly will! And a big Thanks to the rest of you good people for the feedback. It looks like The Switchblade+ is the first choice purchase!
2. I'd like to get a bit more information about these pedals from anyone who uses or has used them. I'm considering starting up a 2 piece punk band as a side project to my main band. It would be drums and bass. The sound I'm thinking of is akin to Slaves, Drenge and-to a lesser extent-Royal Blood, though I'm also thinking I could divert into slightly less punk/rock territory too(E.g. Warpaint, DJ Shadow, Slint.). You've probably guessed that I'm going for a bass amp & guitar amp split signal set up. The issue is is that my Behringer AB100 Amp/Instrument selector pedal doesn't have the function to send an instrument feed to 2 amps simultaneously. Having done a bit of research, the most obvious choices for pedals that send simultaneous signals to Channels A and B are Fender's ABY Pedal; The Switchblade Plus by Electro Harmonix or-if I lose my common sense and decide to spend over £100+-The Orange Amp Detonator. BTW, my Boss ME-50B does have Stereo outputs, so I know I could cheat/be tight/be thrifty by buying a tuner pedal as a mute, as per some Youtube videos. However, I really don't want to do that, as I have PLENTY of non pedal tuners anyway. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
3. The first gig I ever played was backing up a friend and ex-bandmate at an open mic at Trof (Now known as Fallow Café) in Fallowfield in 2006. My old Ibanez GSR200 went straight into the PA via DI. My first proper band gig was a few months later at The Retro Bar in Manchester for an all dayer charity gig. I used the same Ibanez bass through the headlining band's Ampeg rig (An old SVT Pro III head into a matching 2 x 10" & 1 x 15" stack.), with my Boss ME-50B pedal in the effects loop. That Ibanez was the first good bass I owned. Better than my Squier Affinity P-Bass, which was an unused back up for the gig. The only gear I still have from that gig is the pedal.
4. I have a TC Electronic BH500 and I love it! It's not a Micro amp like the RH heads or the newer BH heads. It is fairly light for an old school style amplifier head though (It's a comfortable one hand carry with it's handle.). The cons are that it has no effects loop, the sole Speakon cable socket isn't a combo input that can take 1/4" jacks and it's not-if you are a purist-a valve amp. The rest of the pros are that it's features are great. I can echo the sentiments about the Tubetone & Spectracomp. They sound fantastic together! The onboard tuner is always handy. The Post EQ DI is great too. It handles effects pedals really well. And most importantly, it's nice and loud! I would also say that when my band's been lucky enough to headline gigs, the support bands who have used my rig have been very complementary about how it sounds too(My band's an indie rock band that goes from being bluesy to punky. The other bands have ranged from Dance to Blues to Indie/Indie rock to Prog and Glam.)! Hope this helps if you are still undecided.

6. Ok! Here's my rig history broken down: Combos: Peavey Microbass 20 watts (My 1st ever amp, which I still have and it still works!). Trace Elliot Commando 100 watts 1 x 12"/15" (Most likely a 12", but I can't remember precisely!). Ampeg Portabass 250 2 x 10". Ashdown MAG 300-115. Cabs: Hartke Transporter 4 x 10" 300 watts 8 ohms. 2 x Warwick Neo Pro 1 x 12" 300 watts 8 ohms (Current cabs. Still serving me well since getting them in 2008.). Amps: Hartke HA3500. Ashdown Little Giant 350. Hartke LH500 (Still have this one. Not used it for a while.). Ampeg PF-350 (Same status as the aforementioned LH500.). TC Electronic BH500 (Current amp. Love it!).
7.
I misread initially and thought Vangelis was coming to Manchester.... doh. Enjoy the gig, good luck.
:-D ;-) No trouble at all! That's one of our old jokes (Though I think having a crack at something off the Blade Runner soundtrack would be an awesome project to try in the future!). Ta for the props! :-)
8. Greetings again to all Basschaters in Greater Manchester! My band, The Vengalis, are getting set for our biggest gig yet! We're playing The Club Academy on Friday 21st October, supporting Some Kind of Illness and Room To Let. Tickets are £7 each. Doors open 7:30pm. For more information about my band, search "The Vengalis" on YouTube and check us out here: https://soundcloud.com/thevengalis www.facebook.com/thevengalis Thanks for reading!
9. My back ups are a Hartke LH500 (350 watts @ 8 ohms; 500 watts @ 4 ohms.) and an Ampeg PF-350 (250 watts @ 8 ohms; 350 watts @ 4 ohms.). The Hartke isn't "lightweight" like a Markbass, Aguilar Tonehammer or a Gallien Krueger MB head. It's not Valve amp heavy though and is a damn good amp! The Ampeg is light and sounds lovely, but is better for recording and practice to be honest (Conversely, you need a full 4 ohm stack to get the most poke out of it!) Don't really use either now though. Probably should make sure they go to good homes!

12. Interesting. I have 2 Warwick Neo Pro 12"s. Are you looking at these models or Warwick's more recent models-which I think have Ceramic drivers instead of Neodymium ones? Also, I think we've had a conversation before regarding amps. Are you still using a BH500? Or do you prefer the Reidmar amplifier?
13.
Anybody had chance to compare Rumble to Ashdown MAG, Hartke LH or Ampeg PF tone/soundwise?
I tried one of the 2x10" combos for research purposes a few weeks back. I thought it sounded good. Decently loud and I liked the Drive's distortion. Being an owner of a PF-350 and a LH500, as well as a former owner of an Ashdown MAG300 combo, I say it's better than the Ampeg and Ashdown heads by dint of having more power. It's got different features to the Hartke. The Rumble 500 has a more varied EQ; Amp Voicing and A Drive/Distortion feature. The LH500 has a tube preamp, simpler EQ and Limiter and "BRITE" buttons. It's a coin toss IMHO! I would also say that Paul Duffy from The Coral used the Rumble 500 combo when they recently appeared on Later... with Jools Holland and the bass sounded good. Check it out on the iPlayer if you want to hear for yourself.
14.
I've got a BH550 and I really like it However, after hearing an Orange Terror 500, one came up for sale, so I tried it out.... and bought it It all depends on what bass you're using, and what sort of sound you're after, of course I'm in several quite different bands, and also play a bit of DB. For most of the stuff I do, I can now see me using the Orange. I'm using it with a PJ Precision or Jazz, and it delivers nice warm tones Good luck with your search, and let us know what you find
The Terror Bass heads are cool too! I'd have got one myself but for the fact that, in order to use, it I have to have my whole rig set permanently. I don't really gig with it that often to justify it or for it to be practical!
15.
Right now I am switching from 10" speakers to 15", maybe that will do something good for my tone
Interesting point! My cab set up is 2 1x12" cabs with the tweeters off. The Spectracomp is dialled to 6; The gain doesn't go above 4 and the TubeTone is dialled to 5. I also cut the Treble slightly and slightly boost the Lo Mids. Oh, and my bass has an EQ which I cut the treble on too! Don't know if that helps, but I hope it does!
16.
Looks like its only available as 8 ohm or 2 ohm. I ordered one anyway! What have I done?
I appreciate that you and LewisK1975 pointed this out! Having looked at all the comments on here, I understand both why Barefaced made the cab AND how there's still a potential market for 1 4 ohm cab solution. I guess I'll have to have another look at the Barefaced website! ;-) Hope you have fun with your purchase!
17. I've got a BH500 and a Hartke LH500 and I love 'em both . I'm surprised the BH500 isn't doing it for you, but I'd definitely recommend the LH500 as an alternative!
18. I am VERY tempted by this piece of kit! I'd like to know if it could work as a 4 ohm/one cab set up though!
19. I'd say a lot of your decision depends on what the cabinet is TBH! The PF 350 has a lovely tone and a very good D.I.. I think the frequency knobs/pots were starting to crackle on mine the last time I used it. However, it hasn't ever had the reliability problems that reported plague it's bigger brothers the PF 500 & 800. In short, the PF 350 is better as a recording amp. Not quite sure how it'd stand up in a metal band gig after gig. Get a Hartke head and match it with a decent 4x10". If space/size/weight is an issue, go for 2 2x10"s or 2 1x12"s.
20. Has anyone got any experience with these at all? I thinking of having an overhaul of my rig. Currently I have 2 Warwick Neo Pro 12"s powered variously by a Tc Electronic BH500,an Ampeg PF-350 & a Hartke LH500. I've had the cabs for about 8 years, the Ampeg nearly 5, the Hartke over 6 and the Tc Electronic just under 2. I'd be after 1 CX210 cabinet first of all. It's got enough headroom to handle the Hartke @ 8 ohms on it's own. I can then get a second CX 210 further down the line.
21. I think everyone's comments about this piece of kit are valid, but I'd very much like to try one out when they turn up in the stores!
22. Glad you're enjoying it! Hartke do make cracking amps. Not actually used mine for a while, but I've had it for over 5 years now, so they're reliable as well as powerful!
23. I you still have a problem with it, I'd strongly urge you to take the BH500 AND-if it's possible-your cabs and cables back to the store that you purchased the amplifier from. Make sure that you have your receipt with as well. When I purchased my BH500, after trying it out for a good 20-30 minutes, it died within 10 minutes of plugging it into my cabinets, after maxing out the gain and the compressor. I was lucky that I could fit my cabs into my car and drive to the shop-in this case PMT-that was only 5-10 minutes away, but they were very helpful. After troubleshooting every situation and set up, they had a replacement amp sent up from another store which is still going strong! Hope that helps!
24. I was the lead singer in my last band, and I think I'll be doing some BVs & some lead in my new band. I'll say that doing BVs is trickier because it can be harder harmonising with someone else's vocals. So practice, don't forget to drink water and-if necessary-get singing lessons too(Don't take this the wrong way either, as I reckon I'll need to take some in order to fine tune my technique and work on my range TBH!).
