1. Thanks very much for all your advice Andy! Much appreciated! :-)
 2. Just realised something. The Hartke has 2 jack sockets. 1 for passive basses & 1 for active basses. Would I therefore put the pre amp out feed in via the active jack? As to the Ampeg going doolally, I'd just plug the bass into the Hartke. I'd also use a DI pre any pre amp or amplifier(Assumed this is standard practice when using BIG bass rigs.).
 3. That sounds cool! Just to double check, I assume that an instrument cable will do to connect the two heads?
 4. Happy New Year's Eve everyone. You folks are great for any bass related advice, so I hope you don't mind if I ask for some rig advice. I have two bass amplifiers, an Ampeg PortaFlex PF-350 & a Hartke LH500. I currently switch between the two as per the gigging/rehearsal/recording situation. And I have no intention of getting rid of either, as I love the tone on both. My query is to do with a feature on the Ampeg. I watched one of their YouTube videos a while back about the "Pre amp out" socket/jack point. From my understanding of the video, would I be able to plug the Ampeg's pre amp into the front/instrument jack of the Hartke? My idea is that I could put the Ampeg through my 4 ohm Warwick 2x12" stack-running clean @ 350 watts-whilst having the Hartke; with it's value pre amp & extra 150 watts @ 4 ohms of poke, power a larger 4 ohm stack(E.g. A 2x15"; a 6x10" or-if only!-an 8x10"! :-D). Any advice that you good people could offer would be very much appreciated! Cheers!
 5.
Paz is a fantastic player and vocalist. Should add to the band IMO. Thought they might have tried to nab Auf der Maur TBH.
I thought that myself ages ago before they hired Kim Shattuck. It was a damn shame about Mrs Shattuck. Saw them play @ The Apollo back in November, and she was an awesome addition to the band. She looked like she was having a blast!
It's a shame, I really liked Kim Shattuck. I loved Kim Deal too back when they were in their heyday, but they don't seem to be able to function together. Apparently she just announced she was leaving mid-tour in a Café Nero in Monmouth! If it means they are writing new stuff rather than just churning out the old material, I'm not too bothered about Kim Deal leaving. I've just downloaded EP1 and I'm really enjoying it. I think they're still doing good stuff. Much as I love their music, though, I get the distinct impression that Black Francis etc. are a funny bunch of buggers.
That's probably true. Though it was always Frank's/Charles' band in terms of songwriting and what not. Trouble is, as anyone who's watched the "loud QUIET loud" documentary will remember, they just don't talk to each other properly. Charles said it. Kelley Deal says it to Kim. And lo and behold, Kim Shattuck said that in an interview NME reported when the band's management handed her her notice!
Kim Deal left this time to spend time with her sick elderly mother and the door is open for her when she wants to return. So BF said in an interview.
That's something else hinted at in the aforementioned documentary. Still, apart from the fact that I thought they might try & hire Kim Gordon (Ex Sonic Youth), Paz will doubtless do an awesome job until she leaves/is sacked
 6. I normally have my LH500 set @ Bass-4 or 5; Mids -10 & Treble-1. Limiter is always on. Volume has never been above 5 or 6. I'm sure you can tell from my user name, I don't really play Metal or Jazz like Hartke's endorsees, & it does a great job for me.
 7. Not actually last night, but my band played The Roadhouse on Thursday night for the first time as a 3 piece. Really enjoyed it on the night! Then I watched the video back on Friday... ....We sounded awesome! Can't wait for our next one!
 8. My band play The Roadhouse just before Christmas. If any Basschaters in Manchester fancy coming down, that'd be sweet! More details here: www.facebook.com/events/187572881431356/ Thanks for reading!
 9. Just letting you all know that my band, Twisted Machines, finally make their live return to Manchester for the first time since March. Look here for more details!: https://m.facebook.com/events/206045972907177
 10. Used to have a HA3500 with the vintage sytle casing! Lovely looking & lovely sounding amp. Good D.I., Compressor & dual/blendable Tube & Solid state preamp. I only sold it to get a lighter amp, though the less said about THAT excuse of an amplifier the better! As for the LH500, it's my main amp & it is STILL awesome!
 11. I'm the singer in my band as well as the bass player, so I have NO idea where I should place myself on the ego scale!
 12.
I watched it too and really enjoyed it, BBC cut out about 5 or 6 songs from Dookie as they played all of it!
Their set's being shown again on the BBC Red Button @ 9:50pm for 40 minutes. Let's see how much is shown this time(What I saw last night was brilliant!).
 13.
The idea behind your thinking is fine. But the 2x10 is gonna get 150 watts spread over 2 drivers & the 4x10 is gonna get 150w spread across all 4. So if the cab sensitivity specs are the same, then the 2x10 is gonna be a bit louder than the 4x10. I plugged a 4x10 into my 2x10 combo a couple of nights ago & you couldn't tell if it was on or not. I unplugged the 2x10 to check & yes it was there & plenty loud enough on it's own, but sounded nowhere near as loud or good as the 2x10. The 4x10 is SWR, the combo is Markbass. The B&C drivers in the combo have a far greater xmax than those in the SWR.
I see what you mean now. A bit obvious now. I was thinking along the lines of link
A 2x10 and a 4x10 is not a 6x10. If someone with a 4x10 is told to add more of the same I'd take it as adding another 4x10. Getting the extra power from your amp won't help if you can only turn up until the smaller cab starts farting.
I get what you mean now gentlemen! I was mistakenly thinking along the lines of if, for instance, you linked an 8 ohm 2x10" cab to an 8 ohn 4x10" to get a bigger 4 ohm cab. But it's not the same principle at all(Perhaps you can tell I own a stack and not a combo! )!
 14.
The problem with having a 2x10 & a 4x10 together is that the 2x10 is gonna be getting the same juice from the amp as the 4x10. If looking at cabs, look for the sensitivity of the thing. Watts mean very little on their own.
I was working on the principal-commonly mentioned on this site-that having more speakers of the same size gives you more of the sound you want in terms of tone & speaker response times. I take your point about the lack of power. This is certainly true if you just used the Laney combo on it's own(I'm sure it was mentioned above that this would only put out 175 watts or thereabouts @ 8 ohms.). However, having 300 watts @ 4 ohms ,through a 6x10" would surely be pretty of poke.
 15. +1 For the Hartke. Great amplifier! To be fair though, The Laney Richter amps will do a job for you too. Therefore, I'd make a couple of suggestions: (1) Get a Laney RB7 2x10" combo 2nd hand, then look for the newer Richter 4x10" cab, which has a new badge & a higher power handling rating(Some of which have already turned up on eBay.). This way, you have a decent rehearsal combo & a pretty decent live 6x10" stack. (2) Get the Hartke LH500 with ANY decent 2nd hand 8 ohm cab that can handle 400 watts.
 16. I have the Ampeg PF 350. I used it for recording a couple of months ago & the results were pretty impressive. The engineer got a really nice tone out of it. He also commented on how good he thought the amp's DI was too! I've also used it live @ Dry Bar in Manchester last year. It did go through the headlining band's 4x10"+1x15" stack with the DI plugged in, but I was still pleasantly surprised with the sound. Out of all the others, I've only tried the TC Electronic BH 250. But that does have a BEAUTIFUL tone!
 17. Ah! Mansun. First proper band I saw live back in'98(The year they won Melody Maker's Best Live Band.)! Loved "Attack Of The Grey Lantern". "Six" wasn't as good, but still had a number of blinders on it("Shotgun", "Being A Girl", "Legacy", "Negative"). Even "Little Kix"-which was awful-had good tunes on it(Namely "Fool" & "Soundtrack for Two Lovers".). Also, Stove only started playing bass when he joined the band, but he was a pretty solid & tasteful player.
 18. Just followed the Thomann link. The price does seem a little steep.:-S I'll just have to wait for that lottery win I guess!... ;-)
 19. I think I'm in love with this cab! I can imagine how great this would sound with my Hartke LH500 & my Ampeg PF 350! I hope these turn up over here soon!
 20. ... I'm cut & pasting my own thread because I need your help people! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/210553-drummer-wanted-in-greater-manchester/ Thanks for indulging me!

 22.
I do like the pixies, and have al their albums but Trompe le Monde was a step too far. having said that, there are a couple of fairly decent tracks on it, Subbaculture being one
TBH, I actually like "Trompe Le Monde" better than "Bossanova". Excellent call on "Subbacultcha" though!
 23.
The Pixies are still going? I thought they had split ages ago.
Well, IMHO, if they don't actually at least go on tour again and/or release some new material, they might as well! And-as I've made fairly clear recently on here-I love that band!
 24. I saw a new ad for Eden gear in the most recent issue of "Bass Guitar Magazine", so they should be coming out soonish(I hope!)!
 25.
I was at the same school as Roddy, their singer. He used to cross the road when he saw me because I always had a very big dog with me (a Rhodesian Ridgeback) and he was scared of dogs. Absolutely nothing to do with the topic, but I thought I'd share anyway...
Poor Roddy! Thanks for sharing!
When I played lead guitar in my last band we were lucky to be on a TV show and met Glen Hughes. His advice was "If you ever make a cock up just make sure the audience doesn't notice."
I just glad that no one has at any of my gigs yet!
