Hello! I have my eye on something else but I need to sell this, which is currently my main gigging bass. Its in very good condition, no damage to the paint job and only one minor ding to the end of the head stock. I've taken the scratch plate off but it can easily be put back on (I know a good repair guy ). I'm happy to post at buyer's expense, or meet up in the central belt - I'm based in Edinburgh. Its white with maple board and pearl block inlays, matching head stock. The bass will come with a cheap gig bag for protection, and will be well packaged in the event of it being posted. weight: 4.5kg Price drop [s]£800[/s] £750

Haven't read the whole thread so apologies for any repetition. If you subscribe to Victor Wooten's belief system then everyone is self taught (see the Music Lesson) so wether you go to uni/college or not is almost irrelevant, especially nowadays with the internet providing all the information and lessons you could possibly want for free. What a degree does give you is time to focus on your craft and to gain contacts. On my degree course there was definitely the feeling among students that marks we're awarded arbitrarily, I knew people who worked 12+ hours a day for months in their final year on projects and performance exams and got mediocre marks while others threw stuff together haphazardly in the 3 days before the deadline and got merits. In my opinion music is too subjective to grade in any meaningful way (aside from the basics like technique, professionalism). Your music degree is what you make of it.
We have the ZLX 12s and they sound amazing and are 300 quid each so well within your budget. We use them without subs for a vocal PA and easily play to 100 people plus
Is that with a full band? Typically we have keys, kick and 4 vocals going through our PA, do reckon it could put those out at a decent volume?

Thanks guys, JTUK, I guess we're looking at £800 maximum. A sub isn't really an option at the moment - we've only 2 cars between 5 members and mine's a corsa. after a bit more research 15s are probably a better choice for the kick drum, though we will be listening to 12s and 15s before we buy.

We were hoping to avoid 15s as our current pair are 15s and are a f@&£ing hassle to move around. They're the 400W mackie thump which we find are underpowered, I'd expect that both the EV and the Altos rated at 1000 and 800W respectively would be louder than what we've got, though I know watts aren't a perfect predictor of volume.

Hello everyone, as the title suggests, my wedding band is wanting to upgrade. One of our Mackie's packed in on Thursday so had to do the gig one speakered and will have to do that tonight as well and it got us thinking. I've been researching speakers and the most suited size and power wise seem to be alto TS112A and the Electro Voice ZLX12P, does anyone have any experience with these speakers or similar? Also, the EV is described as 'powered' rather than active, is this the same as active? As in could I just plug it into a desk and go? Thanks

Ha! You dirty pervert! My friend is doing a survey on rehearsal space, please fill out this out, it takes 20 seconds. https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/DRQJY6R Much appreciated L

I originally got my iPad for charts and practicing which I still use it for but now I'm starting to use iRig mini and the NLog pro synth app to play bass lines in some of my bands. It's a cheap alternative to a real synth (one day maybe) and takes up less stage space.

I've been offered an American vintage precision in trade for my Letts fretless, it all seems legit, he answered my requests for serial numbers, specific photos etc but I'd just like to know how to do a trade safely when the other member is based in Holland (judging by his phone number). L
[sub]You shouldn't really have to worry about getting any amp repaired and if they were point to point, that would be easier.[/sub] [sub]You may well find a lot of boards are pretty popular in a LOT of amps.... so the heritage of..say, Behringer, might spread[/sub] [sub]further that you'd like..??? [/sub]
What's point to point? So if a board burns out they're easily replaced?

So I've been using my Genz-benz Streamliner for about 2 years now and I love the sound and functionality. However, if it were ever to malfunction beyond repair it would be irreplaceable now that Fender has shut down GB. Aside from buying one second-hand, is there another amp with an equivalent volume to size ratio?

How to survive as a musician without a 9-5 normal job?
bassist_lewis replied to britpoprule's topic in General Discussion
I work for a healthcare agency so I can choose my hours to fit around my music work - though there are still clashes on occasion. It was because of this experience that i was asked to teach a children's music group and another group at a day centre. Remember that musician's make most of their money from people who aren't musicians, so getting to know a few of them through an unmusical job can be advantageous. -

Justin Timberlake Bassist change - who's the guy?
It's Eric Smith. Does loads of work for Adam Blackstones company BBE. He also does the Rihanna shows when Adams busy. Adam Blackstone didn't join the European part of the 20/20 your because he's been busy in the states MD'ing for Pharell. Edit: if you want to find him on twitter it's @PikFunk
Why is it in these pop gigs it's always the bass player who MDs, while in musical theatre they always play piano? -

Saw him at the Hydro in Glasgow also, probably the best gig I've ever been to. Couldn't really hear the bass to be honest, just a massive rumble. But they were tight as a tight thing and an incredible stage set up. -
