1.
It's Eric Smith. Does loads of work for Adam Blackstones company BBE. He also does the Rihanna shows when Adams busy. Adam Blackstone didn't join the European part of the 20/20 your because he's been busy in the states MD'ing for Pharell. Edit: if you want to find him on twitter it's @PikFunk
Why is it in these pop gigs it's always the bass player who MDs, while in musical theatre they always play piano?
2. Saw him at the Hydro in Glasgow also, probably the best gig I've ever been to. Couldn't really hear the bass to be honest, just a massive rumble. But they were tight as a tight thing and an incredible stage set up.
3. Been using one on every other gig for almost a year now, never had a problem. Just make sure you set a long 'auto-lock' time, it's fairly terrifying when your reading off a chart and it decides to lock upM
4. There was an old G&L L5000 in the for sale section a while back, one pick up with volume and tone. Not sure on the string spacing.
5. last drop (to £700 - for some reason the 'price or trade value' won't change)
6. I'm available for all sorts of gigs, I've been doing weddings regularly for 4 years as well as teaching and some theatre, I'd prefer paid gigs but if it's an interesting one (I like soul, funk, jazzy stuff) I'll consider travel expenses. On that subject, I have a car and all my own gear and I'm based in Edinburgh, the phrase "has bass, will travel" comes to mind! L
7. one minute please... string spacing at the bridge is 16mm, the nut width is 51mm.
8. 34". I know people go one about 35" but I have a Lakland DJ5 and the Letts low B blows it out the water
9. For sale is my fretless, hand built by Jon Letts and finished in May last year. Condition is near mint apart from 2 dings on the back of the neck (acquired at its first gig!) and it has seen only a handful of gigs. The sound is quite something, very open with lots detail throughout the spectrum and very even across the strings. The low B is the best that I've ever played, even with flats it has strong presence and is very useable up to G (in my opinion no low B is useable past E). The electronics are minimal: one large pick-up with 2 single coils and a kill switch. The bridge is made from wenge and has very little wear, I believe the nut is also wenge. String spacing is 16mm. Why sell it? For me, it's too much of a strain on my arm to play for a long time (most of my gigs are 3-4 hours) coupled with a hefty tax bill and some unexpected expenses. Case and comfort strap will be included in the sale. Now £500 Trades Considered: a nice P-bass, or a 34" scale 5-string
10. In a cool dry place... but seriously, I keep my 3 basses and 1 guitar on a guitar rack in my music room.
11.
Can I ask the OP what attracts him towards the Callowhill 5 string ?
It's primarily because there will be less of a stretch down to the lower frets and across the neck. I've played a few short scales and I find them much more comfortable. They're also a more convenient size and lighter.
12. I've only had 4 amps in the last 12 years. The requirements are pretty simple for me: light and loud.
13.
If , at the end of this thread, it turns out that you are the devil incarnate, can somebody let me know? I had previously assigned that role to a girl from Essex that I used to share a house with when I was a student, who I believe is still sticking pins in a voodoo doll of my likeness. If you are in fact the devil then maybe we could do some kind of a deal to fix her and get her off my case ?
Give me your soul and it's a deal All who post on this thread will spend eternity burning in hell! But seriously, yeah, I get what you mean (not about the girl from Essex, the bass thing) no bass is perfect... though my clover is pretty damn close. Maybe it's one of those "it's about the ride, not the destination" situations.
