1.
I recommend buying the CD from the record company website, ropeadope records. Not only do you get a lovely, Hi Fidelity CD for your cash, but you get a DVD with the making of on it and for $5 you get a cool ass T shirt! Sometimes old school is new school...or something C
Sometimes old school is better, period.
 2. "Jazz is like a great blues band that fell down the stairs." --Michael Buble
 3. Needless to say, that's fantastic for a band to get on one of the most popular morning shows in America.
 4. I met their bassist years ago when they were still in Texas. That had to do with a coincidence more than anything else. He did seem like an interesting guy, though. Snarky Puppy has steadily achieved more prominence through the years. I have a feeling that will continue.
 5.
Two entirely different basses that just happen to have the same approximate body shape. That's as close as they get.
+1
 6. On the positive side, he does speak good Portuguese.
 7. I saw it. I'm not really much of a RHCP fan, but I thought it was quite good.
 8. I can't think of any other bassist I'd rather meet (but I probably won't ever get to.) It's very interesting to read about this, though.
 9.
"It's interesting because music is a language, you can learn its vocabulary, but how does one COMMUNICATE to others in a way they understand what is intended? It's an interpretive language and I think drawing parallels with verbal languages is inadequate." I suppose that would be the creative bit... using the techniques and tools you have to allow you to convey an idea to your audience. As an example... "Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rage at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light." Dylan Thomas Versus " I know you are old but don't just give up and die" Me Both use the same technique (english) to convey the same basic information... but to my mind Mr. Thomas does it a bit more creatively Oh... and good choice of debate topic mate... way more interesting that discussing scratchplate colour
A good succinct interpretation of Dylan Thomas, though.
 10.
Am guessing yiv nivvor been roond owa neck of the woods, marra...?
I've been to Ireland twice and was able to stay a long time each time. However, I still have never had the opportunity to go to England, Scotland, or even Northern Ireland yet. If things turn out as they should, that will happen some day, but not anytime soon. I've also been to Holland twice, Belgium once and Germany once. I had meant to visit England already by now, but lately things have not been working out very well for me.
 11.
Indeed. The antonym is 'nowt'. Imagine , if you will, two unsuccessful anglers: A: Caught owt? B: Nowt. Her indoors is Dublin born and bred; she maintains that the Irish render English in its purest form. That said, you would have no difficulty conversing with the average Brit. Stick around here long enough and you'll soon be fluent enough to pass for a local. Dick-eye chavvy, me old china.
When I hear English from Scotland, England, or Ireland, it sounds more the way I imagine a language should sound. I find American English to be far too bland.
 12.
Oh aye. "Have ya had owt to eat, hinny?" That sort of thing. Just means "anything".
That's interesting. I'm always fascinated by this sort of thing. I'm not sure how easy it would be for me to understand British English on a daily basis. I did well with the Irish, but that's quite different.
 13.
'Owt'.
"Owt" is a word in British English? I have never heard of it. Of course I am sure there is much I haven't heard. I was in Ireland for four months and sometimes encountered words from the Irish I'd also never heard. "Aught" is a word in American English, but I almost never hear it and think it must be considered archaic by now or close to it.
 14.
Quite right. That's the end of that then. Have you been fishing and did you catch awt? EDIT: how do you spell awt? Is awt? Or ought?
I think the word you may be looking for is "aught." I don't know how much it is used in the UK, but it is no longer used very much in the U.S.
 15. I have four, but only one is a good one. So, for all practical purposes, I only own one.
 16.
To identify with it you would have to consider some of the other 300 million Americans who aren't in your family or close circle. It's there if you look for it, here's the first thing I found for your state. There's tons more if you care to search. There are a number of right wing states trying to keep people off the ballots currently and of course the thousands of other religious fundamentalists who daily try to write laws based on the bible or sharia law or whatever.
I can assure you that I do consider other people outside my family and close circle of friends. By the way, my state is not Texas. Also, it doesn't much matter what Texas does to try to get around federal law, it will still be overridden by federal law. The most recent example is when the Texas legislature threatened to make TSA searches illegal. The federal government countered by threatening to shut down all flights in Texas. I actually do agree with much of your overall line of reasoning, except I feel it applies to what may happen in the future more than it does to what is happening now. I really don't feel that I can say much more than that without making this into a political discussion. I have an M.A. in political science and do actually know some things about the topic. However, I'm pretty sick of politics and would much rather discuss music than politics even if political discussions were encouraged. Why did I get an M.A. in political science? I don't know! I hate the subject; but it was just so easy. I wish I had a music degree and envy people who have one.
 17.
There was one on Talkbass but the opposing Christians banned it. Studies have shown that in the US atheism is more hated than either muslims, blacks or homosexuals. A number of states even have added a requirement to their constitutions that atheists can not hold public office.
I find it hard to identify with what you are saying considering the close atheist and gay friends that I have. Also, I'm a Caucasian living in a multiracial family. State laws attempting to restrict people from holding office would be antiquated early 19th century laws ruled as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. If anyone actually tried to keep an atheist from holding office, there would be so many lawsuits it would cause the earth to spin off its axis.
 18. If you don't have sufficient musical talent, practicing can only take you so far no matter how much you do it.
 19.
Could be worse... Loads of videos of pick playing ;0)
You mean like these? 20.
This is an honest, questioning post, NOT trolling. Why does there seem to be a need for being a "Christian ......." (insert whatever here). I have recently seen a "Christian Motorbike Club" (out on a Sunday BTW), and this morning pulled up in a car park next to a car plastered in Christian stickers, including "Christian Surfers". Now we have "Christian Bass Players". There doesn't seem to be the need for atheist, Jewish or Muslim versions of these groups, why the need to create this segregation?
I think I have seen an atheist bass club somewhere on the Internet quite some time ago. I don't keep up with bass boards too much anymore since, quite frankly, I feel that this is by far the best one.
 21. I'm a Christian but have never had a chance to be in a Christian band or play at a church. In the last band I was in, the guitarist and I did write some songs which did seem somewhat like Christian rock, but that is the closest I've ever been to that. I did fill in on bass once for someone at a church, but I'm not really counting that. Those of you who are playing at church--at least some of you--are probably enjoying yourselves more than many people realize, though.
 22. I tend to like music which is bass-driven such as Cream's music.
 23. "Absolution" and "The Resistance" are the two best albums in the last 20 years, IMO. The "Black Holes and Revelations" album isn't far behind.
 24.
I have the greatest respect for those who can do it well, but it just doesn't interest me. I can't think of a single song that has slap bass on it which I like. Very impressive, but I don't care. And I agree it seems pretty dated these days. Each, of course, to their own.
+1
 25. There is some good advice here that might be useful for other people who find themselves in similar situations.
