  1. Wow, had to look twice to even notice it - I thought the first pic was a 'before' it looks so 'factory'. I think I'm still on the 'bit of foam' stage but do think it'd be a nice thing to have.
  2. Thanks. I daresay the problem could well be the limited 'under the hood' editing functionality in iMovie. I only used that as it's supposed to be quick and simple!
  3. Thanks, will do!
  4. No, but there's lots of stops, stabs and crashes which make it fairly easy to line up, so ultimately I had to just drop in a couple of very short snips in the audio to help it resync. Only that I haven't quite yet figured out how to use the video editing features! In more seriousness, I couldn't get it to properly import the native video from the iPhone, but will have another crack.
  5. Thanks. Hmm, don't think so - output render settings was 44.1Khz in Reaper, and that's also the same as the unedited source video file. Interestingly the rendered video file is coming out at 48Khz, so for some reason iMovie is upsampling the bit rate, but obviously that's after I've had (and worked around) the sync problems. I got round it by just splitting and jumping the audio along a frame every now and then, but it's far from ideal! I may try a different programme to see if it's an issue with iMovie or the audio.
  6. So recently I was asked to do a quick audition tape for a gig playing drums. They wanted me to play along with their backing track which was to a click at 120bpm. I thought I'd be better off recording the audio using a DAW and syncing it with phone camera video so it would have better sound. I've done this before on gig videos so I know how to do it fairly well. I was using my phone for video at 1080p, and the drums were mic'd into my XR18 into Reaper. The mics were o/hs and kick and snare. The camera was about 1.5m away from the kit. So I recorded both, did the 'clap' (ahem) to ensure there'd be a defined point to sync the video and audio. I did a bit of EQing of the drums in Reaper and then bounced it down into a stereo audio file. I then went in and sync'd the new audio track against the phone audio track, and then deleted the latter. So far, so, good. However, for some reason I cannot possibly fathom, the video and audio start to go out of sync after about 30 measures. It's only slight, but it continues until about half-way through the track they're both fully a beat out. Now, I can't understand how this has happened. They were both recorded at exactly the same time. The room isn't big enough to get any kind of delay on the sound compared to the video, and in any event the mics were closer than the phone so if anything, the phone audio would be out (but it wasn't). The audio is consistent at 120bpm all the way through, and the processed track still syncs with the Reaper internal metronome. I have a tape saturation plugin on the master so wondered if that could be the issue, but I've re-exported the track without and it's the same issue. Not using any time delay plugins, just EQ, gates and compression. Unless there's a small space-time vortex in my studio which is causing the light to be delayed in reaching the camera I can't see how this could have possibly happened. I've done this sort of thing loads of times and never had any problems. Anyone have any ideas?
  7. Curses, I’ve been in two minds about this! If you do change your mind, let me know.
  8. Edit: read the SECOND page of the thread before commenting, doofus!
  9. Thanks - drop me a line if you do and I'll happily take it off your hands!
  10. Can anyone suggest what to look for in a beginner/starter bow please? I have a German bow I picked up but simply can't get on with the technique, so I would like to get a French bow. I am literally starting out on DB, having played electric for a few years. I mainly play pizz stuff but there are some tunes which need arco but it isn't going to be my main focus. I appreciate that like everything, as you get better, it's worth spending more on better equipment, but I'm some way off that for now. I see Bassbags offer a beginner's French bow for sort of £60-odd - I'm assuming this will probably do me for a while? Any other suggestions?
  11. Oh, and to answer the question in the OP - Skoda Superb Estate. Such a large load area I reckon you could play tennis in there. Absolutely cavernous. With my old Octavia MK1 estate I could get all the band gear in - drums, PA, amps, lights etc. My current car is a Subaru Forester and I managed drums and PA last time but there was literally no room for anything else!
  12. Apparently 1 horse = about 15hp. No idea why - perhaps whoever came up with hp as a unit of measurement had only seen Shetland ponies!
  13. I think this is me. Not convinced by much after Californication, and really after OHM too!
  14. Not my ad, but I thought someone here might be interested: https://www.joinmyband.co.uk/classifieds/double-bass-player-wanted-for-rockabillyswing-fun-t1323020.html "Hey. Do you have a double bass? Can you slap it like Lee Rocker? Do you fancy playing some rockabilly, rock and roll and electric swing? Redfoot is looking for a new bass player, and if you said yes to the above it could be you. Send me a message and we’ll organise a get together! Check us out on Facebook to see what we’re about."
  15. Ooh, I've noticed one of these for sale near me. Looks like a great live mixer. How are the mic pre's and the onboard effects?
  16. Pedaltrain SST pedalboard tuner. Powered off a 9v connection and designed to sit between your pedals on your board (though your mileage may vary, didn't fit on mine between pedals, but snuck it in along the bottom). Can either be run inline with the pedals or run off a separate tuner out (which is what I did). Fitted with velcro on the underside - comes in box with paperwork etc. LIterally used once until I realised I could get my trusty TC Polytune back on. £49 plus P&P in the shops - £40 posted to your door (or wherever else you want it sent).
  17. Well, I don't really know TBH! From the reaction I'm getting locally to floating the idea there's a demand there, so I'm hoping we can get enough punters in to try and make a real go of it and cover our (i.e. my!) costs.
  18. Well, no. I hire the venue for a fixed fee, they supply facilities, PA, a bar and staff it (and keep any drinks) and we keep any proceeds from the door and hopefully make enough to cover hire costs and pay something to the house band . At least, that is the model currently under discussion.
  19. Hmm, I'm steering slightly clear of this conclusion at present. I *think* it's because this is a new venture for the company managing this particular venue - before, they've done theatre only (AFAIK) and for a theatrical production the whole set list and levy idea makes sense, but less so for live music.
  20. Following on from my random query about PL cover, I've also been asked by this particular venue to sign up to T&Cs which mean we have to provide a set list of all tunes that we intend to play before we start, and pay the "PRS levy" (whatever that is). Now, the thing I'm trying to organise is a jazz jam night - so to a greater extent there's no way to tell exactly what tunes will be performed. In the 25+ years I've been playing live music we've never once been asked for a set list for PRS purposes. I don't really have any issues with it save that I can't see how we can confirm what is going to be played in advance of it actually being called. Secondly, does anyone know what the "PRS levy" referred to is? I presume it's that proportion of the venue's PRS licence fee for that event, but again I've not come across the performer/event being asked to reimburse the venue for their PRS costs.
  21. Yes, I was a bit confused as I’d have thought it would be the venue’s cover most claims would fall under, and only specifically performance related stuff (eg speaker falling on someone or guitarist spearing someone with their headstock) would fall under the performer’s cover.
  22. I'm in the process of organising a monthly jam night, and the venue has asked for PL insurance. I'm a member of the MU so benefit from their insurance which includes PL cover. However, I daresay that may only extend to cover situations where I am performing and incidents which arise from that (though I will also be performing - or, at least, that's the plan!). Has anyone had any experience of a broader PL cover for individuals/bands also acting as promoters, and if so, any recommendations for companies/brokers to approach etc?
  23. Welcome to the club! I’ve had no end of problems with mine too. If Basstone can’t help, the ‘approved’ repairer is Real Electronics in Sheffield. Just one thing to try though before you do - have you tried with a different power cable or different socket on a different circuit? You never know, that could be the cause of the problems if there’s a fault with a socket (unlikely, but worth a try!)
