Saturday night at the Fleece in Bristol... always a good night there, but the placed was absolutely rammed to the rafters last night... they hit the fire limit and were turning people away by 9 o'clock. Support from a very good covers band The Collective, nice guys and some unusual covers well played. We had one or two new tunes in our set, seemed to go down well. Crowd were in good voice, brilliant atmosphere and god it was hot! Too funky in heeyar..! A great night. Bassist's eye view of the punters:
Oh I remember that view Is that one time Soul Destroyers lead girly vocalist Miss Sally Vate there in the front with the black t shirt and watch?
 2.
I must admit, I do actually struggle to hear the bass more and more and we don't usually use monitors. A few people have suggested maybe looking at the Epifani 3 x 10 or the Schroeder will will apparently give more support to the bass player and allow me to hear myself better. Any ideas on this?
Before the highly audible Schroeder 1212L arrived to transform my life ... I used to make sure the 2K slider was up highish on the bass amp - whatever rig I was using. That means I can hear it OK. You may like to try that but yes, the Schroeder is very easy to hear - scarily easy... it's driven me back to lessons to sort out a few problems that, beforehand, only me and my bass were aware of .. now the whole world can hear them
 3.
I was just wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction for getting a headstock logo custom made. I am considering getting my bass restored to its normal finish, which would involve destroying the logo that is currently on there. Getting a replacement from the manufacturer is not really an option at the moment, so I'm open to all suggestions. 4.
I only perform small gigs at the moment but my band is planning to get out to bigger ones soon (might be doing dorking halls at some point) and i really want to use the excellent sound of my cube, yes i know it's just a really fancy practice amp but i want to use it on stage and show off it's fancyiness, if i got a cheap(ish) cab around 100w or something and hooked it up to the roland (through the line out on the back) would i get the excellent sound quality the cube produces out of the cab or not?
Oh and the first point is that a cab with just a speaker in it (as opposed to an "active" or "powered" cab which also has an amplifier in it ) will need to be plugged into an extention speaker socket rather than a line out socket and need to have an appropriate ohmage rating (like 4 ohm or 8 ohm) depending on the technical spec of your Cube. Line out is for sending a signal to an amplifier, such as a second bass combo ... Maybe you need to do that...
 5. Welcome! Ah yes the much overlooked importance of a good strap May be one of the comfort strapps as on here BassDirect Accessories page As per your extension cab question, that's best posed over on the amps and cabs forum in a separate thread - http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=5 Call it "cube extension cab" or "cube plus powered speaker" or something like that so people know if they want to open the thread or not. You'll get more answers there as this thread is an intro one .. Cheers
 6.
She plays lovely and I'll post a review pretty soon, gigging with her again on Wednesday. I'll probably review the bass against my Sei Jazz and let you all know what I think of the two different build styles (and there's a few) !!!!
Wow that is sparkly Congrats! Are those red strings? Yes the comparison review would be very interesting.

 8.
Thanks OG - not interested in this really - but always good to see Jon's work around. This particular example is rather exotic and perhaps more at home in our southern climes. I wonder if I have the most southerly pair of shukers in the country (SE Cornwall) - I know it was heck of a drive to pick them up.
Yeah i don't do fretless either Nice looking bass though Mine's scheduled to be finished in a couple of weeks Not quite such a long drive for me
Seems he aint the only one 14 strings on Talkbass I know which one has more chance of success!!
Ah but that looks real .... "13 strings'" 14 stringer will probably be made of B&Q shelf pine, not actually work and be tuned "any notes you like,It's just tuned to itself" just like his 13 string project was .... 11. Have a good time guys. Someone enter the Overwater free prize draw for me?

 13. There's a story in this month's Bass Guitar magazine (the Punk Issue) about someone from Bristol giving away a knackered old TE 4x10 combo through this very forum (when it was Bassworld) .. The lucky recipient took it off to be repaired only to find that no only was it not very broken but it was also a prototype and had probably been tested and signed by Mark King .. So now it works and is probably worth a brazilian pounds to the right Level 42 fan(-atic) .....
 14. play well known, "up", happy stuff Beatles, early Elvis, rock n roll etc
THANKS OG!!! Now lets get you a 7 string......
Oh I'd love to look after the Doodle, or it's cousin, for a few years I didn't sign up to play on my own or do chords though (that's why I play bass:)) but I think I now have more open approach having moved from a 4 to a 5 .. Bass guitar mag this month has a feature on ERB player Stu Mckinsey and his 10 string .. http://www.subcontrabassist.com/

 17. Well I tried to resist calling Jon before Bassday but found my fingers hitting redial So the news is that mine should be ready in 2 weeks time, including its hanging week..

 22. Radcliffe and Maconie had a thing about naming bands from the Ikea website last night ... you get things like Bibbi Snurr and the Hulda Unni Virka Aspvik Vinstra ...
 23.
That Skjold bass is mine! Its been for sale for a few weeks on the forum, but I've had absolutely no interest in her. I lent her to Mark from BassDirect to use on his stand at the show, and try to sell if possible. Still waiting to hear if he had any nibbles! She is a beauty, far too good for me to use in my covers band, where things get damaged quite frequently. Cheers, Bob
Hi Bob I was on the Bass Direct stand on Sunday. A few people had a go on your Skjold 92. It seemed to go down well. Didn't detect any firm buying signs thogh .. Mark may have a different story That was a regular reaction "oh I coudln't play a bass that costs this much in the pubs I play" .
 24. Ah good ol' Jazz - it's such a massive category (just slightly less wide than "music" itself) that any kind of bass playing and bass instrument can find its place. It's a question of context and expectations I guess ...
 25. Sounds like another great bass in the making ... Just assume 30 weeks build time and then if it's 25 you'll still be happy
