1.
Ace!
Yeah "How long Has this been going on???" I'm also gently chewing at my appendages like Tinman
 2. I have to ring Jon tomorrow for an update. I'm going to see him, and it, on Thursday anyway. It MAY be ready That's OK though.. I can check out the progress and then just wait for a parcel
 3.
....but I didn't get a reply at all. Did he reply when you asked for specific pics to prove the bass is actually in his possesion? I really hope that it is genuine and that you get the deal of a lifetime 'cos the rest of us were all too cynical to pursue it. However, you have to admit that everything about it APPEARS scammy, bordeline certainly, but let's face it, all the best scams appear either genuine to the naive and bordeline to the expert. Don't pay any money unless it's cash with the owner and the bass present, get a receipt in case it's hot, and take a witness/bodyguard with you Chris
All good advice, Oddly enough the email replies, each asking for my best bid, have stopped coming since I asked for a meeting and some more pictures .. Says it all really. I have used up all my "bargain of a life time" points already so I'm not surprised .. OG
 4.
Ok. All the old people stand up, if you are capable that is
Cheeky! Try Chordie http://www.chordie.com/song.php/songartist/Who/index.html (hundreds of Who songs, some tabs, some chords, push button Key sig shifting etc) However just playing along to the chords isn't going to cut it in a tribute band. It's all about karaoke versions, of course. The anoraks will judge you one your ability to play exactly like one of well known versions of everything .. You'll need to be pretty much note perfect (either the record or live version) as per how John played it. I'd say if that sort of thing isn't your bag then don't do it... Whether you'll get away with playing on your modern Warwicks will depend on whether they have a "hey look we are really the Who circa 1976" approach http://www.thewhotribute.com/float.htm http://www.thewholigans.com/ white growbag for "Pete", funny looks from "Moon", Ric guitar, dodgy Roger'd hair or a "well we know we don't look like them but we sortof sound like them" approach er well I tried but I couldn't find one of those Let us knwo how it goes ..
 5.
Couldn't have put it better myself... His room is like a guitar shop - i've never played a 7 or 8 string bass before! Alex.
Guitar shop as in "everything there has at least 6 strings"?
 6.
So is the Vintage White very yellow/blonde? Do you have any pics of the one you had? I was really kinda hoping it would be close to Olympic White.....
Nah It's custardy. Here's my old 1989 MIA Standard .. The drum kit and my shirt are white.. The bass is very much a yellow colour. It had a white plate on it when it arrived and looked even more like a bowl of Bird's then ... Imagine a white thing that was hung up in the roof space of a pub for 30 years (when smoking was allowed). It's supposed to be that colour I think ...
 7.
I did but they were the wrong size, it's the thought that counts though!
But they were the RHCP Flea signature series socks! Sorry, they only come in one size (small, obviously)

MB1. Or.......Billie Dont Be A hero!.....Paper Lace?

Ah a fine punk classic "Billie don't be a hero Don't be a fool with your life Billie don't be a hero Don't become Evenses wife"
 10.
i would've had one a while back when i had the cash, but i spent it on other stuff! I had also hoped that i might have been bought one as a small but generous present - but that doesn't seem to have happened!!
Didn't you get the socks I sent you?
 11.
Yes, and sometimes when he's good
I'll be sporting a few copies of BassPlayer stuffed down the back of my pants on Friday then
 12.
Enjoying the setlists - keep 'em coming. Have already written down a few ideas to add to ours. 13.
If it's the 57 I think it is, I doubt it's in his possession. I asked for some specific photos and some history and received neither Chris
Ah Chris "scam baiter general" on the case! Yeah it took a few goes for me to get a reply ....
 14. I'll kick this off. Nice chap and a pleasure to do business with. Thanks OG
 15. Well there's a strong smell of marine life about this but.. I guess these things happen sometimes ... With the help of several people from this forum and a couple of luthiers I know it looks like the images the guy has sent me are very likely to be of a genuine late 50's P bass ... or a very good replica made by someone who has read the same websites, articles and books as we have However, there are a few weird things about the story etc so I've asked the normal scam buster questions - like can he take more images of specific things, can I see it before discussing things further etc.. We will see ..
 16.

Continuing with the 'one for bum, one for lady-bum' conceit, surely twinge and glitter? Does Homebase do these? MB1. M***E AND S*****R? I was thinking Master and Servant ala Depeche Mode! dont think youve any chance getting M&S or a new Guncase at Homebase.

I had no idea the yoof kept their guns in these 'til I was sack trollying 4 or 5 of them out from a gig one night and someone going in said "my what a lot of guns you have, must be a rough venue"
 17.
It's nice to see Jon has decided to go with a more Fenderish type of headstock for his Jazz basses.
Actually, as with all of the features, that's up to the person ordering the bass. Jon has always made Fenderish headstocks for those who ask for them.
 18.
I have a copy of 'The History of The Fender Bass' book which might be useful - I could scan in pages or post the book to you if it has anything in it. I will be away from today until Tuesday so will check back with you then! Sounds like a good find, assuming it's a good'un! ped
PM sent
 19.
can you post the pics OG and we can take a butchers.........
Rather do it through PM's atthis point ... just in case
 20. Hi I've "been made aware of" a "1957" p bass for sale but this is beyond my knowledge of P basses. Naturally I'm wary of being stitched up so I'd really like a second opinion from the pictures he's sent. Does anyone know enough about these to help? All I have are the pictures so far ... Thanks
 21. Just love tracking the parcels I do worry about the carbon footprint though: China to the US then LEBANON, NH MEMPHIS, TN STANSTED GB Not here yet .. Monday I guess ..

 24.
Can't wait
Well the Shuker mine workload seems to have dropped a little so you may not have to, well not that much anyway
 25.
I get B&Q and C&A, but maybe my mind's not dirty enough for M&S?
S&M maybe?
