It does look rather edible doesn't it. Saturday's going to be great, pick up the bass in the morning and then straight to rehearsal in the afternoon, give it a good work out. Sunday will be it's modelling session
Clean the drool off before you photograph it
Recording of Sgt Peppers started in December 1966 and that has to have used more than 2 tracks!
Yeah, two four tracks
I suppose if anything of mine wants buffing I shall have to put in a request for it to be done before Saturday otherwise I stand no chance
Yeah You may have to use the power buffer for a while after that
-
The body was being buffed by Jon whilst I was there - with very very fine sanding paper The headstock looks fantastic in the wood. It's got a great "snake head" looks to it and the scarf joint just looks brilliant. It's certainly going to be a stunning looking bass.

+ 1 on all of that. Fab guy, fab prices, fab access and assistance for numpties like me. Great advice on features and woods to achieve certain things, eg punch and growl. His key super power as far as I am concerned is to take wordy descriptions of sounds, with example tracks, and to turn out a bass that does it. + 1 on he does like a challenge. He has a major failing though, he will talk to you whenever you get him on the phone. This means the bass he's working on at the moment gets put back a few hours .. If you take his build time with an (X = A X 1.5) pinch of salt then he's just brilliant. I'm currently waiting for number two. It's been quite a while but I know it will be well worth it.
oh cr@p. I think I said this before, but now would be a good time starting a business making hardware in the UK..especially headless units!! I wish I was good with a lathe!!
Better get yours ordered now, Dan ...

I reported the listing to ebay as a probable scam .. Meanwhile the guy has sent me an email "The engine is still available if you are interested" Engine? He's obviously scamming all over the place ...
Thanks for the review - this is the 6er I've been toying with getting, and I have a great guitar tech just up the road who I swear could raise the dead and make them sing in tune.
Got his big gig tomorrow night then?
no, i didn't say it was a precision body. i said the neck came off my dad's precision.
"Son, have you seen my bass anywhere?"
What I did was glue the screw into the body, it wasn't actually superglue, but something called "sticks like sh*t", that's actually what it's called.
+1 on that That stuff is great and not just because of its name - It grips under water for those Deep Sea Jiver's gigs and gluing the gutters in the rain... After having a bass that kept on undoing its own strap lock screws I always check mine for looseness as I put the bass on. I have also glued the strap lock screws into the bass with Evostick wood glue.

Thanks to all .. I shall be following all of the tips and instructions when I get going on the project in a few weeks time. i am confident all will be well now as I've spotted several things I was doing wrong before in the "don't do it like this" bits - except holding the cold end , I managed that.
Hi guys, just a wee bit of good news for anyone thinking of pimping an SX bass. I contacted Rondo Music about the short scale Jaguar Bass they did recently, they're not going to make them again till next year, but anyway... Kurt who deals with all this stuff is trying to negotiate better rates with FedEx for shipping to the UK, so soon enough it shouldn't cost so much to get them over here! Cheers, Eude
The irish dealer may have one .. http://www.waltons.ie/waltonsshop/ None showing but they sent me a long list of stock when I emailed them.
Just went into the Bass Cellar in Denmark St, London & they've got two 'vintage white' JB75-100US basses in there at £775 each That's £250 more than you could expect to pay (including delivery and ALL taxes/handling) if ordered direct from Ishibashi (approx £520)! Crazy..... The good news is that the 'Vintage White' is actually more a light cream colour (aged white) than the sort of yellow illustrated above. I think that's made my mind up. After Xmas, Ishibashi here I come! They also had the PB70-78US in 'Olympic White' (real white!) priced at £775 too! This is even more crazy as you can get one (inc delivery/all taxes/handling etc) from Ishibashi for approx £425 (£350 cheaper!!)
Yeah There's a clue to why in your statement: "Bass Cellar in Denmark St, London" Another good reason for not living in London so is the Denmark street one a MIA or a CIJ? CraftedinJapan.co.uk can do that for £540 inc delivery. Here or this "brand new just arrived never used" one may be still for sale http://forums.pineapster.co.uk/viewtopic.php?=&p=444492 May save a few quids

Rats .. Mine won't be ready tomorrow when I'm up there .. oh well, I hope there's something to photgraph at least
Just had a quote from Ishibashi for £335 inc delivery. Anyone know what the import duty etc will be on that? think i might either get that or a Honey Blonde MIM 50s' classic.
Yes it's all here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...dpost&p=924
Next up is Phaedrus This is called the Quadrant. Here's a view looking from the 'body' end A close up of the machineheads and pickup And Ned Steinberger checking one out at NAMM Phaedrus takes the Steinberger concept of a minimal bass the it's extreme. This is bassically a 3/8" strip of steel with strings, a pickup, and associated electronics attached to it. There's 3 versions, the 4-string Quadrant, 5-string Destructor and the single string Proton. I'm not sure exactly what the availability of these basses is at the moment. When I first came across them the site had it's own domain, but now it's piggy-backed onto vikingmovie.com. Phaedrus inventor Thayer DeMay isn't brilliant at answering emails, but lat time I was in touch, the Quadrant was at a special offer price of $500
Nice to see one of these weird and wonderfuls actually strapped to a human .... Most of them can't be practical instrumenst - or can we have live playing shots as well??
Ah sorry, didn't ask my question very well - why stop at 21 rather than 24? Neck pickup positioning or just personal preference ( or summat else entirely)?
I found the extra neck/figerboard length does a number of things - gets in the way of my newfangled poppin' finger, makes the body smaller (or the lower cut bigger) and puts the balance out. I've had 24 fret basses and never really liked them that much. 21's enough for me. the P5 has a deeper lower cut han a fender by a few mm and it gives me access further up the neck so there's a load of frets I can get to more comfortably anyway. So happy with 21 for now I quite like the look of the Fender Jazz 24 though
Did it arrive? Thoughts?
Yeah Arrived Monday. Looks great and feels fine - fantastic for 100 pounds. (no duty hounds so far) It says hand made on the headstock and I think a number of people could be convinced that it was ... The truss rod needs a tweak but I don't have an allen key/hex wrench to fit .. they sent the wrong one but are sending another ... I'm well chuffed ..
Looking nice OG. The P5 is lovely to play so hopefully this'll be equally marvellous. On question - why 21 frets? Cheers, Alun
Top E
You seem to be under the misapprehension that I require appendages in order to play my bass, this is not so. It's all done by telekinesis.
That's what you think
-
You realise that I am now using my nose to type, all the rest are gone
Dear Mr Shuker, As Pete has to re-grow his appendages before he can play the new bass you are making for him, I think he would happily donate any time you happen to be spending on finishing his bass this week to polishing off mine . No, really.. I mean he has no use of his for a few weeks, gosh no, how long does it take to grow back a full set of appendages anyway? The Daily Mail says it will take about 4 weeks ...
