2.
I've used the cube twice alone live and it was hearable (just) on 3/4 volume in a gym filled with 200 people and an insane drummer and guitarist so it is quite punchy, i just want to make it louder lol, it's not much to ask stupid physics!
Ah yesssssss A constantly recurring problem... I have a 7 watt 40 year old WEM practice amp that sounds fantastic and I'd love to have a 500 watt version of that sound. I guess you're going to have to try it.
  3.
Just a little trivia here! As a rule of thumb I use; +3dB is doubling power -3dB is halving power +10dB is sticking a zero on the end +20dB is sticking two zeros on the end +30dB is sticking three zeros on the end With reference to 1 watt 0dB = 1 watt 3dB = 2 watts (doubling) 6dB = 4 watts (doubling again) 9dB = 8 watts 10dB = 10 watts (add a zero) 13dB = 20 watts (add a zero and double) 16dB = 40 watts 19dB = 80 watts 20dB = 100 watts (add two zeros) 23dB = 200 watts (add two zeros and double) 26dB = 400 watts 29dB = 800 watts 30dB = 1000 watts (add three zeros) a bit dull but but may be of interest to some of you!!
So how many Db does it have to increase by to sound twice as loud?
  4.
Probably and a darn fine job he did as well. Funny thing is, the bass sounds much better without it's frets
It's been Shukerficated. He probably rubbed some fairy dust into it
  5.
hahaha, thats gonna cost too much! surely if you have 100watts and a ttach a cab that has 4 speakers you are getting 100watts worth through all the speakers?
Well as I say, it may be enough. Depends on what you are doing. I don't know the physics, just that in my experience you need more than 100 watts of bass in a band situation if there's drums and you are playing in a room that holds, or is holding, more than about 50 people. unless you have a sizable PA. There's loads in the tinterwebnet about how sound and watts are related but you don't get 4x100 watts from a 4 speaker cab Or you could ask a few questions in the tech thread. Bill Fitzmaurice knows a thing or two http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?s=&sho...ost&p=84124
  6.
what cabs? is there a link? i can't find one if there is
MB1's just answered your original question.
  7.
my cube is 100watts
100 watts into 8 ohms? Ok Well you will be a bit louder with an extension cab but it will be borderline. If you have an energetic drummer and a pair of loudish guitarists you, and your amp, are going to struggle. As a rule of thumb you'll need at least 200 normal watts (or 150 peavey watts - dunno why but they are louder) to keep up with a guitarist or two, even if they are using 20 watt practice amps. This is because bass needs loads of headroom to retain clarity of sound and guitarists think a 20 watt amp turned up full sounds OK. 200 watts is actually only twice as loud as 20 watts anyway (it's physics, man) so with 1000 watts of drums hammering away next to you you'll likely need to upgrade your amp at some point. or ....... buy a used 300 watt combo from someone like TE, Ashdown, etc and use the Cube as a preamp and the combo as the power amp. That should be possible using line out and line in sockets.
  8.
Ah, but here's the thing... Portugal's music scene is pretty much unexistant except for pop music, so anything more alternative than that wont have a market. So, its either: Covers band or Originals for the fun of it.
Well to various degrees that's pretty much the same the world over. One idea may be to hire a place and put your own gigs on. Maybe you are surrounded by other orginals bands eager to play, and eager to bring their mates ... So how about organising a regular "First friday of the month" gig that you headline sometimes but also have aother like minded bands. If it's done in a well managed and entertaining way, and well publicised etc, you should draw a crowd .....

    More than 4?

Bilbo ". If any of you ever get your instruments over to Suffolk, I'll be in the front row." You aren't that far from Dood and his 7 string .....
  12.
cool thanks! i've placed a wanted add, and i'll have a look around, i'm very sceptical about ebay these days as i've heard so many stories of blokes buying expencive things only to get half of what was advertised (in one case it was only half a motorbike - which i read in 'bike' magazine a while back-) however i'll look around on sites such as; GAK, amazon, Absolute music solutions etc. i'm quite interested in finding a yamaha cab or an ashdown cab (who i was going to -but didn't- buy a combo from instead of the cube at one point!)
How many watts does your Cube kick out?
  13. Yeah Aestetics are important. I forgot Ashdown. They make some cabs that will be around used a couple of 1x15's (different sizes) and 4x10's .. Also Hartke's were all over the place a few years ago so may be available too .. Havn't seen many Yamaha bass cabs around but I like their gear and we have a Yamaha PA amp in the band that's fine. I suspect they are all made in China these days Just see what's around in your budget and then post here for an opinion ... Also put an add in the "wanted" thread...
In the self explanitory words of zappa "shut up 'n' play yer guitar".
[set anorak on] Actually "shut up and play yer guitar" was a heckle aimed at Zappa when he was in mid political rant one evening.. [set anorak off] but actually it makes sence in this context too .. Play and let play.
  16.
Taking other people's recommendations is a total waste of time it's what you buy and what suits you that matters and there's only one way to find out.
Yeah and your experience is valid. He's a beginner, Stew, so he's doing the sensible thing and asking us old lags for opinions. The TE and Peavy stuff has characteristics and being cheap and going on for along time seem to be (generally) two oof them .. Obviously is a used behringer cab comes up that would be an option...
  17.
Hadnt thought there may be a market for them, may even be enough to buy the Triple Omega purple heart Alembic ive had my eye on!!
Off topic, sorry Oh yes there's a market for them have a look through eBay Eg Anglo concertina sold for £1100 Ebay Item number: 320176490510 couple of those and your Alembic may be a reality ....
  18. If you are poor don't buy new, It's a waste of money. Used is fine. Cheaper and, should you not like it or upgrade, you'll get your money back when you sell it. Check on here, eBay, local free ads, freecycle etc. +1 for Peavey, 4x10 TX, 2x10 TX, 1x15 BW (Black Widow speaker) Watch the ohmage as they make 8 and 4 ohm versions and don't accidentally buy a 1x15 BW P.A. bass cab as it's different. Trace Elliot do a 4x10 and a 1x15 Any of these will do.

    Weddings
Tip for readers: Never take a booking for a wedding gig on the same night as the Rugby World Cup Final when England are playing.
Ah yessssss The person who takes your booking should make sure they have all the big stuff in the diary so when someone calls to book the band for a wedding for Easter weekend you can make sure they know it's Easter weekend (or half term, cup final weekend, the Olympics, Wimbledon finals or anything big that happens locally to you.) You'd be surprised how many first timers don't appreciate the problems it causes parents of school age kids if they get married on a half term weekend .... Doing this sort of thing helps the organiser of the wedding and re-enforces the feeling that you have done it all before, know what you are doing and will do all you can to help their day go smoothly.

  24.
is an extension speaker socket the three pronged one which says balanced out on the back of my amp? (technical talk here ) oh! maybe its the socket on the back that says {external speaker 8 ohm lol!} either way it said in the instruction manual somewhere that it could be used as a head to drive cabs i'll just have to re-read it
It's the external speaker socket. "Balanced out" is to plug your amp into a mixing desk, say to use it through the PA at larger gigs. This is an option depending on your PA. So ... you'll need an 8 ohm speaker cab then . You will also need a speaker lead. They are not the same as guitar leads, even though they have a mono jack plug on the end. Certainly using an extension cab will increase your overall volume as you will be shifting more air.. and some amps actually increase their output wattage when attached to the right extention speaker. Eg my Mark Bass LMK. "OUTPUT POWER 300W RMS @ 8 ohm, 500W RMS @ 4 ohm" Best to pose the question over on the other bit of the forum though as people will know your Cube better and will be able to advise better. OG
