On the off chance that the young Ms Minogue calls tonight, I need to ensure that I can honour my promise to Mr Git PS, Chris, you have a PM.....
We'll need proof of the real thing - shots of the head, heel, serial number, pots .. no getting off with one of the many Kylie Chinese copies flooding Dr Who Christmas specials all over the place ...
Hey no worries, was only kiddin anyway. I can in no way afford nor justify that beautiful bass. Goddammit. mind you... If we did all go & meet up, and that singlecut was still there... oh dear oh dear... I think the temptation would be too much to bear...
He's not joking. We had to get the social services negotiation team in to talk him into letting go of it so we could go home yesterday .. and he wept quielty all the way home ...
Bloody Hell Si! You are one lucky "OldGit" That's a very very sexy bass. When I get geared up, probably end of Jan/early Feb for my next go, I'll be popping down to see Jon, with bass in tow. How about we try and organise some kind of BassChat Shukerite gathering... Assuming Jon'll put up with us all! Cheers, Eude
Ha ha the secret is the chocolate hobnobs .. He'll do almost anything for some of those ... I don't think I can afford to go to Jon's again for a very long time
+1
"Still after a date with Kylie" My mate played sax in the band on the Tiutanic for the Dr Who special she's in. I gave him your name/picture to pass on to her. I hope that was OK?
Look at it through a lens dude! We need more pics! (p.s. might have some exciting Shuker based news myself very soon, )
oh maaaaaaan Jon has a monster SC at the moment .. you may have to fight both Rich and Pop tart for it though ... Ok cleaned up, my studio so I'm getting the camera out now
Congrats Si! That's one gorgeous bass there! But cheer up bud... That's you got 2 now! Eude
Ha ha I was very, very much more happy than it appears in the pictures .. It's just embarrassment at not having any circus bass abilities or a party piece to play in such skilled company, Mark and Rich and Rob (who helps Jon) are all great players whereas I'm a bit more of a root-fifth player.. Speaking of which, time for some more playing, well maybe I'll just sit and look at it for a few more minutes
Si Cool day out and what a lovely bass, looks and sounds terrific. The Nordy DCs add some nice bite and clarity to the sound and the bass is light in weight but big in tone Mark
Would those be the same kind of Nordstrand DC5 pickups like you sell at BassDirect, Poppers?
I used to work with a Simon Phillips obessive who would use his double bass drum, six toms, rack, many cymbals kit everywhere. Not fun!
As an aside ... I used to guest with a band with a drummer who played hi hat, snare and the case they came in (with a bass drum pedal) He did perfectly well in the same way that a brromhandle washtub bass works in context.
I'm not going to steal Si's thunder completely, but here's a couple of proud-father shots
Ha ha faster than me, Rich It's still gorgoeus this morning .. It works too
I have the Ibanez one and it’s really rather good: It’s very well made; can carry two basses easily on my back; lots of handles for holding in tight positions on the tube. Also, it stands up by itself; has lots of pockets and padding; and has very strong stitching. One Negative point: I walked a good 30 minutes in pouring rain with it on my back, since it sits so high above your head I couldn't cover it with an umbrella and the zips aren’t covered. For that reason I wouldn’t trust the bass inside to remain completely dry. They weren’t wet when I checked, but were moist. I on the other hand was completely wet through.
Thanks, very useful points. Looks like there's little competition at this price point ...
The best version of that solo was an arrangement by Frank Zappa for a fat horn section. Was it on You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore? Anyway. Every little twist and turn of the original was faithfully replicated and it sounded great, made me appreciate the original as well!
Yes I have that CD Love that version (and the rest of the album) Good ol' Frank

Well IMHO there's not much that sexier than a small woman playing a full sized bass A page of pictures of Suzy Quattro playing big basses and "girls" guitars like Daisey Rock just seem a little patronising ... what do you women who play "girls" basses say?
'I may have to stop reading the build diaries and "Spotted on eBay" threads though' haha, indeed. the 'porn' section was bad enough, but now it's 3 times worse... and as you may well have guessed. my bass wont be making it to you tonight  but we should hopefully have gigs in Sheffield next year, if not Derby for sure. and i really need to 'talk' to him anyway, got some things on my mind... lol!
ha ha I recognise those symptoms ...
...and so it goes on.... The maple neck's the new Kylie, the rosewood Danni....
Lovely Pair! So which do you pick up in a crisis?

Hummmmm Seem to have this running through my mind .... Well hurry on sundown See what tomorrow brings Hurry on sundown See what tomorrow brings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q59FntObgek Better than Christmas Eve I look forward to the end of GAS as I know it. This, my P5 and the recent rig changes should take care of my "proper" gear GAS for, probably, a few years ... I still need a knackered old bass combo to take to jam sessions (Peavey TNT, Combo 115, Combo 300 or somesuch if you have one) but that's it. I may have to stop reading the build diaries and "Spotted on eBay" threads though
Sorry I am going to have to defend BassChat. I really can not see in anyway that it is old fashioned. The forum is 'made' by the people who use it.. and we have the very youngest to the wise elders on board, with a wealth of knowledge and experience. I could name plenty of other forums, whose users appear 'not friendly' ;o) I would invite you to tell the BassChat team what it is you don't like about the site... you are welcome here and I'm sure any views on improvement will be taken into consideration! As for the build diaries, you don't *have* to read them lol.
+1 Most people on here who frequent other forums say we are friendly and helpful by comparison (which I believe we are). If by old fashioned you mean we use normal English prose and no text speak, respect people's views and try to help as much as possible then I'm all for that. This particular thread does seem to have got a little unruly in certain areas but most of the forum is not like that. As Dood says: "I'm having a bass built by Jon Shuker" is just a very, very small part of the overall forum and you don't have to read it.
