Frustrating, isn't it? Ask them to send it via US postal service (USPS) rather than a courier. Should only cost about $80 for a bass in a box or $110 for a bass in a case (rough prices). This comes via Parcelforce who *will* make you pay the taxes on both the bass and the shipping and they'll stick a £10 handling charge on top. Allow 20% on top of what you paid (inc shipping) to cover all this.
Yeah I've had a brace of basses shipped via USPS in the last 6 months for 80 dollars each I've gone off the idea now anyway. I'm so fickle..
I know about the switchover but im not worried yet. what did you mean about the licences? I dont pay for any although i have been told it would be a good idea. Am i missing something?
+1 My unit has hundreds of frequencies so I'm hoping there will be a few left around that don't have Smashey and Nicey or QTV broadcasting on them. and it it all goes pear-shaped I'll just have to go back to a lead .. What's the TV industry doing about it? Actually if it seiously affects us maybe you could start a new thread about what it means and what we ma have to do? -
Spotted this good deal on The Perfect Bass Lakland Skyline Darryl Jones 5 RW WP Player Price: $1,329.00 (Includes FREE GROUND SHIPPING in the US!) Thats £670 However "UPS has reported a shipping cost of $340.76 for the shipment of the Lakland bass to you in the UK." So how come other people ship for $80 USD inc insurance? Hummmm If you are still tempted it's here Perfect Bass Lakland DJ5
Sure was. Thinking back, despite the crowd reaction, it probably sounded kinda weird. It was just me, drums and lead guitar (singer and rhythm were dealing with a crook amp crisis) and although he does a wicked Mike McCready our lead guitarist is more of a shredder than a blues man - think the bit in Back to the Future when McFly's solo gets out of hand. I remember afterwards him asking me what key it was in too.
ha ha top story My squeezebox player has a habit of morphing tunes into C Jam Blues with no warning sometimes.. The drummer and I go into full on fast walking bass and swing cymbal and all sorts of things happen to the ceilidh dancing dancers. I'm always surprised how many people can foxtrot and quickstep these days ..
If we suffer technical difficulties we generally jam something (probably a well known cover that we may have been mucking about with earlier) to keep their heads nodding until the situation has passed. The punters generally know there's a problem and run with it. Once, for a laugh we somehow ended up fudging about with a swing/jazz 12 bar blues (absolutely nothing like our normally style) and what do you know some old boy dragged a lassie up and had a boogie then a couple of others followed.
Was this a Pearl Jam Tribute gig? Fabulous!
Used to a cover of Average White Band's "Cut The Cake". Great track, not a difficult bass line, but funky as hell. I'd never thought of "funky" players playing with plectrums before (as I played it with my fingers), but this proves me wrong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFzNXUUSFF0
Is that guy very tall or does he have a small bass and tiny guitarists?
-
I'd never thought of "funky" players playing with plectrums before
Course we do I find the articulation of the final note can be very much improved with a pick on fast staccato passages. But then my right hand (finger) technique is in need of improvement

Quite like a coffee before and a tea after .. We even have that on our rider when we have that luxury. I want/need all my faculties about me to play to the best of my somewhat megre ability. I also have to drive home, usually a long distance, and like to stay out of the hedge. -
In Australia there is one song above all others that will instantly fill a dance floor 1971 Aussie classic 'Eagle Rock' by Daddy Cool. Probably the most instantly recognised rock song in Australian music history. So famous that even the Wiggles do it Eagle rock on tha tube
We do a number teh wiggles do - its a trad diddly tune .. I can't remember the name though I don't think Eagle Rock by Daddy Cool made an impression in the UK .. Here Australian (pop) rock is represented by Down Under, My Sharona and Rolf I watched the video linked and clicked on Peaches Daddy Cool hoping to hear a cover of the Strangliers number but it's this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_36U5byQjg...feature=related Not quite the same
It was once said, you should hit the one!
Sometimes. Get a copy of James Brown's greatest hits and work through the bass playing on that. Listen for the space in the bass, the interplay between the drumming, bass and rhythm guitar. Look out for the points when the bass is working with the rhythm of the vocals, keys and other instruments that have the focus of interest as well as the drums Also listen for "pushed" notes. Try looking on You tube for Maceo Parker films like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJmIN8RNBUg...feature=related In funk "less is more"

Not heard it at all on the radio this year apart from as background music behind a Russel Brant trailer .... I'ts been on my stereo everyday though ..
Im starting to wonder how "smoke on the water" would go down EVERYONE knows the guitar riff lol
We do bits of SOTW at our gigs - we are quite often asked for it in an ironic way, as we are a barn dance band. The punters think it's funny to ask for that and Stairway so we play teasers of each and ace of spades and all right now ...

Wipe it out with 20 minute segue modules and only allow planned and rehearsed talky bits. Works a treat .. also hides ugly gaps where the applause should be

So...If anybody can spare 5 mins please go on www.artboo.com/inertia and vote for us down the right hand side! Thanks all!! Any votes are appreciated!!! Alex
You may want to read that other thread (sorry I can't find it) about bands doing telly shows, the abuse, the depression, the editing to make them look like dorks ... Having said that the Mobile new bands thing that's on at the mo is pretty good.
Fair comments guys and like I said if you need to use 'em for your gigs then fair do's. I agree that there is no noticable difference between a good wireless system and a lead these days. I'm coming from the angle that I work in the TV industry and specialize in wireless mic systems and am very aware of the problems that go with being wireless. Hence my previous comment. As a matter of interest what frequencies do you guys operate on?
Ah right .. Well I always have a couple of leads around as well just in case. Not needed one since I got the Sennheiser though. I use whatever frequency the box decides to use It's clever like that. -
