They are very busy though, the band are a very tallented group of muso's, but there are only so many times you can play "Don't Marry Her" until it gets to the point where you want to throw yourself off a bridge !
Incidentally did you do the radio or CD version? or did it vary according to the gig?
 2.
Well, mine is pretty much done! Being strung and set up today, then will be left for a weekend/week until Jon is happy to send it on. So potentially here next week! If not, then almost certainly the week after. I'm giddy with anticipation. The tough part is, I'm on holiday for 3 weeks in a month, by gum I'll miss it!
ohh Pictures please!!
 3.
So, if we're in the audience for a covers band, what songs <i>should</i> we be requesting?
Ah now that's a whole new thread
 4.
are we now off topic.....or what!!!
Well not really... I guess theWho would have been a very different band if Rog had been sacked and replaced with Boz ....
 5.
That's our usual comeback when someone shouts it. 'My old man's a dustman!' 'Is he really?' etc.
Hey come on, you do play "Electric Skiffle" - I'd have thought that was a must for every gig
 6.
'My Old Man's a Dustman'. Seriously.
No problem
 7.
BEAUTIFUL SOUTH?...God man what were you thinking?...come the revolution they will be first against the wall.
Get a lot of work?
 8. You could do it like these guys ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6I7pMjDke8 crossbow and shotgun required
 9. Last gig we were pestered for Led Zep and Pink Floyd .. We are a Rockin' folkn' barn dance band so it was kinda tongue in cheek, I think .. Still my new Zoom FX thing has a great distortion setting so they got a verse of Whole Lotta Love riffs played on a distorted bass and drums with gaps for the words done in a Hugh Grant accent .. "Oh I say you need coolin' Baby I'm really not foolin' don't you know" etc and a chunk of the Money 7/8 bit Sometimes I wish they'd be more inventive with the heckling
 10.
He said he's been lacquering my bass last week and this week, finished now and waiting on it curing before a final polish at the end of the week.
Oooh! Not long now then

 12.
Agony doesn't even come close! As to whether it's worth it, I have absolutely no doubts whatsoever.
Keep the faith It's worth it .... Or buy the 6 string Shuker currently for sale on ebay
 13.
Strange, when I spoke to him last Tuesday he said he was going to be laquering last week and that pics would be arriving by the end of the week, pics didn't arrive, maybe he didn't get around to the spraying. Oh well.
All part of the fun
 14.
So the race is on .... There seems to be 3 or 4 Shukers in their final stages and it'll be interesting to see who gets theirs quickest. Pics required to prove it ;0) Mine is, I reckon a couple of weeks away yet as the sparkle finish meant Jon had to use a different lacquer and more coats of it so it's another week or so over schedule. Buga ! Anybody had close to the 14 weeks quoted before ordering ? Mines been at least 6 months I reckon, probably more. S
Ah so it was yours that caused the spray booth to be repainted after Jon said he had to take the sparkles out of the air Those "14 weeks" are like "British Wedding Time" hours ... never accurate Mine should get capped, routed and a first coat this week. The neck is well on its way ...
 15. A slight de-rail "Good high end Amp selection (Bergantino!!! mein Gott!) " Mark at Bass Direct (in the UK midlands) is listing these - coming soon I guess http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/Bass_Direct/Bergantino.html
 16. Everything's progressing ... Should get some laquer this week Must nag Jon for pictures ...
 17. Oh yes a lot of good pictures woudl guide the people looking at relicing too
 18. As a 30+ year player I did have to reign my tutor in a bit at first as he started from his normal "born again bassplayer's first steps" position and didn't do anything to asses my prior knowledge (which is eclectic and very wide) but once I'd said we'd address my bad habits once I'd learned "a bit of fireworks for my gig next week" he focused and we made a lot of progress. I'll come back to right hand alternating plucking fingers and Jaco left hand finger stretching exercises at a later date once I've got the slapping tool in my kit box. I really do not have any major desire to learn Jaco solos note for note and can see no audience pleasing potential in the gigs I play for that sort of thing (unless the BC community all start attending my gigs ) Slapping and reading, though, I have an immediate use for.
 19.
Hi all I have a mid-90s MIM Jazz bass and I am looking to upgrade it slightly in the looks department. As you can see from the image below, my jazz doesn't have the usual pickguard/knob/knob metal plate combination. Instead, it has a rather fetching all white pickguard which I'm not too keen on. I've had a quick search through the forum but I can't find an answer to my question. Basically, I'm pretty sure that a replacement pickguard/metal plate will not match 100% to the existing screw holes. Therefore, is it easy/safe to drill new holes in the body? Has anyone done anything similar and have any words of wisdom to pass on? Also (forgive the noobie question), is it just a matter of removing the old knobs and putting the new ones on or is there anything I need to look out for when buying replacements? Many thanks in advance. Rick
Hi rick Can't help you with the plate question but knobs come in two sizes of shaft, USA ones (1/4) and Asian ones (6mm), and two types, split shaft which are push fit and solid shaft which have a fixing set screw in the side. You'll need to get the right ones. The US ones are marginally bigger and I believe some MIM fenders have pots sourced in Asia so it's not an automatic thing. If you have a micrometer you can measure the shaft diameter, they are a bit close to use a normal rule.. or you can just get a set and see if you bought the right ones .. They are usually pretty cheap. There's loads of sources for things like plates and knobs on the parts supplier's thread here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=248
 20. I've just started to have a few lessons on this and it's been invaluable - you can't slow down a tutorial book CD or video and say "... no, no, no, hold it ... THAT bit right there!. How do you do THAT exactly?" like you can with a human. I've made huge leaps in two weeks. Tunes I've got on my pile to learn include "We supply" by Stanley Clarke but I'd have never got the subtle nuances without watching my tutor do it at about 1/3 speed for a few times through. It does have several of the technique components in it though. So I suggest you find a tutor for a few sessions, just to get going.
 21.
Absolutely. Luckily, I have a sister living in Michigan so the option of buying a bass and bringing it back (in a 'worn' case, of course ) is an option for me. If only my wife would agree to the plan. Just think, £500/600 for a new Stingray.....
So do any basses work the other way? Do any European basses command premium prices in the states? What would you take over in the battered flight case to sell over there? There's a TB thread about it here from 2004 ... 22. Congratulations! So what did you play at the audition?
 23.
'Walk On By' by The Stranglers is just brilliant. JJ is aother big reason for choosing a bass over a guitar, the guy is still as cool as f**k.
Fully paid up member of the Shuker Owner's club, of course http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/jjpb.htm
