1. I had Status fit a graphite neck to my SR5 back in Jan 2005. I sold the original neck for £200 without tuners, etc. later that year. Since then I have done more gigs with this bass than any other I've owned and would never want to go back to the original neck.
 2.
Happy new year Dave and thanks for posting the vid. I haven't got the best memory in the world, but I'm not bad on faces, and I recognise the sax player from the 'Blues Boys', who played our northern Colne blues festival several times. I saw them in the bar at the Municipal hall, and he also played some tasty guitar on a home made looking flying V. Cameron
Yes that's Keith. I've not seen him for several years but sax and flying V is his bag.
 3. For those that weren't around here when this forum was Bassworld I used to play for a blues/rock band called Old Blue Moses, hence my username Old Blue Bass Man, which was shortened by everyone to obbm. The band and I had a very public and acrimonious parting of the ways in 2004 after I discovered that I'd been regularly short-changed. Eventually I discovered it, queried why I was £10 short and was promptly fired. About 3-years later they imploded. Just to while away so time this afternoon I thought I'd see if there was anything of them on YouTube. Bingo, a video of the House of the Rising Sun, however all is not as it seems. The soundtrack comes from a demo album we recorded whilst I was in the band. I always felt that the whole thing was totally sanitised during mixing as it lost lost all the urgency and energy of the live performances. Some of the video was recorded before I left and some, mostly the monchrome bits, after with the new bass player. Looking closely and I can see I'm there playing my old red Stingray 5. There's even a flash of my Ashdown amp. A bit cheeky really. What memories, what memories.
 4.
Just thought, presumably the output from the pickups will be alternating as the strings pass in and out of the magnetic field of their pole pieces, meaning that I can't use a diode in the circuit. Is this right?
In the words of Captain Mannering "I wondered when you would spot that". Yes pick-up output (audio) is AC so your diodes will provide nice half-wave rectification. Fuzzy.
 5.
im really into this music.....listening to the coolest bass grooves that flow from artists such as aretha franklin, donny hathaway, curtis mayfield, the meters ect.....laying down these grooves the likes of jerry jemmott, tommy cogbill, willie weeks, george porter, chuck rainey, james jamerson, tommy mclure....does anyone share the same passion?? too me this is proper bass playing...i know that there are players who take the bass to new levels every day....but to me my bass heroes are why i wanted to pick up the bass....does the bass lose its role at times? or am i just an old stick in the mud? i listen to some modern players and i cant help but think theyve lost the plot....please dont crucify me its just my view....even the so called great jaco often leaves me cold...if you havnt heard some of the above guys check them out they too me really are the biz....cheers bob.
Yes I like this music however for thoose that were there, like me, was Soul Music, not R&B. 60's R&B was the Stones, the Yardbirds, The Pretty Things, The Downliners Sect, etc, etc.

 7. Merry Christmas to all.
 8. Bought a Boss Tuner from John. Well packed, promptly despatched. Excellent deal. Thanks.
 9.
ok, so I've got the terror 500. How should I connect my two speaker cabs ? If I use one of the amplifier speaker outputs to the first cabs input socket, and then use a second lead to connect from the link socket of the first cab to the input socket of the second cab, they are wired in parallel, giving a total 4 ohm load. Or should I use both speaker outlets, one to each cabinet ? What's the difference ? And which switch position, 4 or 8 ohms, do I use for each method ?
As I understand it you have two speaker cabs, each of 8-ohms. Use one cab and the switch should be set to 8-ohms, use both cabs and the switch should be set to 4-ohms. Using good quality speaker cable it should make no difference whether you connect each cab directly to the amp or daisy-chain them. There is a school of thought, however, that recommends running each can directly from the amp so that in the very unlikely event that a cab blows then you still continue with the other. In both cases the switch should be set to 4-ohms.
 10. This might be a better choice http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=370019423984 or perhaps http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=370089740607
 11.
I'm planning to get a custom bass in a year or two, one of my ideas was black with a maple fretboard. But seeing that ebony with sycamore has given me other ideas! Great looking bass obbm!
Thanks. Black with maple was where I started. Alan guided me through the choice of materials to this result.
 12.
Seeing the top on your bass almost made me go for an ebony top for my 7 string. The simple look of the wood is very elegant.
almost but you didn''t ?
 13.
Sorry for any offence it wasn't meant that way.
None taken. Alan's photos are excellent but knowing the disbelievers on this Forum I had to post some pix of my own. BTW it sounds better than it looks.
 14.
Is this the same one from Jamsession skelf?? If it is OBBMs pictures don't do it justice.
Thanks for the critique. I am not a photgrapher and have no interest in photgraphy. I just point and click. Perhaps you would like to pop round and take some better pictures using your superior skills.
 15. The very top unit is a Sony graphic equaliser, probably an SRP-E100 or E110. The next two rack units hold the 4 x Sony WRR Wireless Receivers.
 16.
Great to see its arrived safely! Hope you have a nice snowed-in weekend to play it.....
Cold and snowed in as it's settling well and the CH decided to die last night. Oh how I love the winter - NOT.
 17.
Wow, that is lovely. About as far from your usual OBBM bass as you could get, but I bet it's ergonomically perfect to play.
I liked the ergonomics of the Status Stealth but not the tone, string spacing or the neck profile. This fixes all of those problems. Just been playing it for the last hour and it feels like I've been playing it for years.
 18.
Does that mean you can swap the LED and change the dot colour? Sweet! (Is that how they normally do it?). Not normally a big fan of strange custom shapes but this looks very sleek and functional. Looks like a proper player.
I suppose it does. I've not looked inside the cavity yet. Normally necks have individual LEDS inserted in them. The body shape is ACG's standard Harlot profile.
 19. I was originally considering an MM Sterling 5 but then decided that for the same money I could have a completely custom bass. The original spec was 5-string with MM SR5 spacing, HS pickups and headless so it would easily fit in the Smart. Body is Asian Ebony on Swap Ash Neck is Maple/Wenge with a Flame Sycamore fretboard It doesn't appear to have suffered from it's travels. Here a few quick pics. Alan has some much nicer shots which should appear on his web site. Neck side dots are illuminated blue through fibre-optics from a single LED in the control cavity. First impressions are that it oozes quality. The neck feels very comfortable and easy to play - this was one of my concerns as I have short fingers. Basic tone is excellent - I now have to master the pre-amp.
 20.
I've used Interparcel before - they're just a shipping agent with little control over the couriers they use. Big UPS fail on this. Anyway - I ordered a giant box of Bass from a fishmongers in Moffat for our Boxing day kedgeree and the idiots from UPS have just delivered me a new bass guitar - are you sure you don't want to check what's in your box, because if it's full of rotting fish there just aren't enough emoticons on the forum for you to use!!!
Nope. Wasn't your fish.
 21.
Are you far from the depot mate? not really sure of the distance between surrey and crawley.. it would drive me mad knowing it was just sat there. i had a simialr situaion with a shuker in the summer, when the delivery man failed to find my house on 2 occasions..
I had a long chat with Interparcel this morning and told them I was prepared to drive the 50 miles each way to go and get it but they told me that UPS have such a huge backlog that they were not allowing personal collection. They also told me that they had been chasing it with UPS. Anyway half way through lunch today a UPS van rolls up and lo and behold it's the bass. I know the driver as he is always delivering to me and he said that despite the weather problems last week UPS only drafted in additional manpower on Monday, after the situation had got out of control. The box was extremely cold so I am having to curb my impatience and allow it to come up to temperature before opening it. Photos up later this evening after I've had a play.
 22. Well some can get it right. Last Friday I ordered a Freeview HD set-top box directly from Humax. I was offered a choice of delivery dates and selected today. Last night I got an email confirming delivery today, and at 09:50 this morning I got another email specifying that the delivery would be between 09:59 and 10:59. At about 10:10 it was delivered. Top marks to them. The bass is still listed in the UPS warehouse. Interparcel are singularly unhelpful taking 2 days to respond to emails and then blaming UPS for having a huge backlog. In fact they should rename their Customer Service to Customer Dissatisfaction.
 23.
Have they told you it will be with you dreckley? Sorry Dave ... couldn't resist.
I would appreciate it if they had, but silence is golden where Interparcel are concerned.
 24.
And just where is this warehouse? Might be quicker to go and pick it up!
Somewhere in Crawley.
 25.
Will this one do?
Yup. That'll do nicely.
