1. Chris I think this diagram is what you are looking for. It used to be public on the Fender web site but seems to have been removed since I printed my copy. When I was building mine I found another version which had 220K mixing resistors on the output side of each pot. It's a useful addition as it should prevent any interaction between the pick-ups.
2. Scored this for a very modest sum on Sunday to use when I have to provide an amp for others to use, especially local outdoor festivals. It's a bit weighty but does have very chunky wheels and handles. It has three speaker circuits, 15-inch, left 2x10 and right 2x10, all of which are 4-ohms and was designed to run from the Trace AH1000 which had the option of three power amps. I want to run it from either the old Ashdown ABM500EVO or the even older Sound City 200. The cheapest, and lightest, option is to :- Swap the 15-inch for an 8-ohms one I have in another Trace cab Rewire the two 2x10s in series to give 8-ohms Then parallel the 15 and the 10s to get a total of 4-ohms. Another option is to use a separate power amp to drive the 2x10 channels. That would give me the option of adding a crossover at a later date to give true bi-amping or even triamping but would mean having to cart more gear around. The first stage is to swap the 4 pole Speakon for an eight pole and bring all the connections out to the rear panel. Anyone ever used one or modified one?
3. One thing to remember about the OLP is that the string spacing at the bridge is 3 1/2-inches compared to 3 3/4-inches on the Stingray 5. This means that the pole pieces of any of the SR5 replacement pick-ups will not sit correctly under the strings. If you can find one, a Sub 5, is a better option as it is the same dimensions as an SR5.
4. Cream was a jazz band but nobody told Eric - Jack Bruce When turning down the Beatles, Dick Rowe, Decca's A&R man, told Brian Epstein "Guitar groups are on the way out... You should really stick to selling records in Liverpool"
5. Normally the grub screw would face into the flat of the D-section to lock it. I can't imagine what the black bits were that fell out.
6. These are the pots and knobs that came off my DJ4. Pot spindles are 6.4mm. Knob holes are 6.5mm +. No lubrication required.
7.
They are solid shafts where my knobs go - not split ones . Dave - you do get new pots with a J-retro and new double thingy stacking knobs. These are supposed to be the original knobs going back onto the original pots that the bass was manufactured with.
J-Retro is complete with new metal stack-knobs. Somewhere I have a box with my pots and knobs. I'll dig it out and take some pix. Sounds very much like you do not have the original knobs.

9. First bass I ever played was one I made in 1961. It was the shape of a Fender Precision, which was copied from the sleeve of the Shadows first album. It had shop bought tuners, bridge and strings but used the earpieces from a WW2 German flying helmet as the pickups. First bass I owned was a semi-acoustic Framus Star Bass, small body, short scale version. It cost £45 new.
10. 1978 supplied from new with a jazz neck.
11.
just wondering if you have to put the bass in the hold. if so must be a long nervous flight!
I took an SR5 from Gatwick to Austin, Texas and back in a Hiscox case in the hold. No nerves, no problems.
12. Welcome from an ex-pat Cornishman.
13. Don't ask the seller to undervalue anything. It is illegal both in the USA and here. If you need to make an insurance claim you will lose out. If The Epifani head that I won on US eBay was such a good deal that Customs asked to see a copy of the Paypal payment details so as to verify that the declared value was correct. They are allegedly not stupid although they did manage to lose 25 million bank account details.

15. Would it help if I sent you a Speakon to Jack so you can try all the different combinations? - Amp jack output to new cab Speakon - Amp Speakon output to old cab jack
16. I meant to add that we are at the "Live and Let Live" in Guildford on December 8th.
17. Welcome. They are quite a few members in the area.
18. I have a red tort, at least that what I think it is that was on mine when I bought it, which i don't want if you want to try it.
19.
I think the last batch I got were from rapid. Just checked - they're £4.08 inc. VAT (£3.47 exc) (10+ from Rapid). However, I must have got them somewhere else since they don't have the right angle ones (RX-AU-silent) and I bought some of these as well. In any case £8 for the planet ones is a bit mutch.
As long as you buy 10 off you can get that sort of price but if you only want one then you are going to pay a good deal more, especially when you include VAT and carriage and VAT on the carriage. If anyone wants just one of either the straight or right-angle silent jacks then pm me.
20.
£8 - that's a bit steep. Neutrik do a silent jack (NP2C-AU-Silent) that usually retails for about £3.50.
Where and does that include postage?

Trace Cab

I think that is a 1510X I quote from the catalogue: "Although usable as a full range enclosure, the 1510X is designed specifically for use in a bi-amped system. It's 15" and 10" drivers produce sparkling highs and deep, tight lows. Power rating 300 Watts / Impedance 8 Ohms / H 780mm / W 610mm / D470mm / Weight 48Kg/106 lbs." I guess that each driver is 8-ohms and there should be separate input (not output) connectors for each driver.
22. A postscript to this little saga. Last week I got an email from Hipshot saying they were sending me a smaller bushing. It arrived today, was the same diameter as the stock tuner and had the same thread as the Xtender. I've just fitted it without modifying the bass and it is working perfectly. The only thing is that the bush and washer are chrome whereas the stock items are satin finish. I'm not sure that anyone will notice. If anyone is considering ordering one directly from Hipshot check the diameter of the bush in your bass and specify accordingly.
23. Old valve PA head. 100-watts. Tone controls are a bit restrictive with only bass and treble. It'll work with a bass but better with a guitar however the power stage will do for anything so you might need a better pre-amp. Slmer had a range of valve amps including the Treble'N' bass 50, Zodiac and the PA100. All very similar architecture. Prices vary depending on condition. For £200 it would need to be in good working order. A PA100 went on eBay for £33 at the weekend. but a Zodiac 100 went for £261 recently. Old PA heads are a great way to get into valve amps however you need to get them thoroughly checked over by a qualified technician before putting it anywhere near a National Grid Interface connector.
