1.
Great info guys, cheers! I'm already thinking that if I happen to be lucky enough to get my hands on the one I've seen, I'll be getting the soldering iron out and wiring it as parallel. Probably chuck a Wizard pickup in there as well. That weird chequer-plate pickguard will be getting replaced too. Good to know they're a quality instrument.
Rewiring the pup isn't as easy as you may think. Basically the pickup you see from the front has 2 pups inside. It is inside the pup that the wiring is done. If you start buggering about with a soldering iron you risk losing the pup altogether. The good news is that they are excellent pickups and don't need upgrading. If you put a Wizard or any other pup in you will lose out (imo) and ultimately devalue it. Here are my 'ray and sub pups side by side.
 2. In response to Grand Wazoo... The pickups are identical except in how they are wired. The current going rate is between £350-450 for a 4 string and a little more for a 5.
 3. They were brought out in 2003 as a budget version of the 'ray but they were for all intents and purposes so similar to the 'ray that they started doing MM out of business and production was ceased after 3 years. They come either passive or active. The electrics are identical to the 'ray's but the pickups differ in that 'rays are wired in parallel and SUBs (and Sterlings) are wired in series. The hardware is all original MM but is not embossed which the other MM bases are. Unlike most 'rays they have a painted neck - which has been sited as a problem for some - personally I got on ok with it and couldn't feel any difference between painted and lacquered. They come with a rather unusual textured finish which is very hard-wearing and doesn't show up scratches. Don't believe anyone that says they sound just like 'rays coz they don't (pickup wiring) but they are close as you can get without going the whole hog. I loved mine and only got rid of it when I got my 'ray. They sit head and shoulders above the OLP basses which are basically only similar in looks.
 4. +1 Just to prove it exists though () it's one of a pair (seen far right) that was taken along to the Moffat bash.
 5.
.... suffered some bodgery in the nut area...
I often wake up on a Sunday morning with a similar feeling.
 6.
Jesus man! thats the coolest thing ever, Its nice to see someone getting some use out of that Delano. I hated it.
Cheers man. I remember just before firing it up for the first time thinking about how you didn't get on with it and hoping it would be ok and being surprised at how great it actually is. I'm totally over the moon with it. Why did you hate it again? Did you have it going through a pre?
 7. Yep the screws are in the top. Make sure you have the correct screwdriver for the job (snug fit) and apply plenty downward force as you unscrew and you'll be fine.
 8. Gorgeous sounding cab and Mike is an über sound bloke. Win win for someone.
 9. He certainly got da chops. Here he is again, cruising along nicely but then quickly sacks off the improvisation and turns to jamming fancy chops again.
 10. These any good to ya?
 11.
What I dont get is the layout of the control plate. What are all 5 pots for?
Not having had one, my guess is > 3 band eq > blend > volume.
Is the the input jack on the bottom then?
Yes.
 12. If that's the case then it sounds like your DR's have less tension. Just try slackening off your trussrod first. Small steps though.
 13. And if I had your workshop, I'd be happy with mine.
 14.
jazz is the teacher by screaming headless torsos
Tune.
 15.
Heard this bass at the bash and despite ou7's playing it sounded great.
Oh ha ha. Libellous comments aside, coming from the guy that produces some of the best sounding basses known to man, that's a huge compliment. Thanks.
 16.
Your sig is getting crowded again mannie
awsome bass leo would be pround bravo
Thanks. I like to think I'm just carrying on where he left off.
 17. Wow I did not know that. Needless to say I didn't pay that for mine.
 18. Cheers man. Couldn't have done it with out ya.
 19. Have a word with Howard (The Bass Doc) and see if he can turn anything up for you.
 20. Does this help?
 21.
Just where exactly does that spike at the end of a violin go?
Right up this sellers misinformed butt.
 22.
That is stunning - Really nice work! You really ought to go into business building those and selling them, if only part time. How much would a commission come to, btw?
Ha ha cheers. Don't think I haven't thought about it. But we worked out at Moffat that parts and a very conservative 20hr estimate on labour (it was easily 3x that) at everyday rates came to £500... and that was using the actual costs of my second hand parts. I'd hate to think what brand new parts and genuine labour costs would bring it up to - you can really see where pro luthiers get their big prices from. Having said that at the moment I genuinely feel this is better than any bass I've ever owned (I just can't put it down and it is inspiring me to play in new ways) so it might be worth it. The only thing I could improve upon would be the neck - I'd love a 'ray width neck for it.
 23.
Fabulous work there, at first I thought it was a Sandberg. I've tried this p/up combo (on a Sandberg) and it really works well. Perhaps it should be The Pinjray.
Cheers. Yeah the Sandberg's use P shaped bodies for that range though. Pinjray. I like it.
 24. Is it dusty inside? Sometimes dust can cause a short. I regularly hoover mine out - don't put the hoover nozzle directly in the guts of it though - use a clean 1/2" paint brush and carefully sweep out all the sucked in crap straight up into the Hoover nozzle which is held close by. The worst areas are near the fan and the heat-sink.
