1. I think the rest the bass should show similar distressing in order to pull off this look successfully.
 2.
Ghee whizz, those ones sound like they are the cream of the crop.
Aye but best take them with a pinch of salt.
 3.
Neither of these materials fill me with confidence with regard to structural integrity
Although once they warm up the cheese ones can play like butter.
 4. How long has it been like this? I doubt it's a cap. Sounds almost as if someone not used to G&L tronics has had a go at it.
 5. Sounds almost as if a batch (or at least the 2 you know about) somehow managed to get moisture (possibly salt water) ingress in transit. Which wouldn't really be the hardware's fault.
 6.
Fenders... pre CBS or not..? *Runs away*
G&L... pre BBE or not? Obviously as a proud owner of one of the very first L-1000's I'm gonna say pre.... (even my home made main player is largely based on one) Let's face it, anything directly Leo Fender (pre CBS, pre EB, pre BBE) roolz. edit : I love my '97 'ray btw
 7. Worms? ... can? ... But whichever you plump for one thing's for sure it will sound like a 'ray.
 8. I can hear your homebrew bubbling away in the background
 9.
I'm surprised so many people are so adamant cheap wiring kits make absolutely no difference to your sound than more expensive kit. On another thread several people doubt the tonal characteristics of wood choice too, and this seems to come up frequently. Many people are of the opinion that the wood used has absolutely nothing to do with the instruments final sound. I'm seriously considering nailing a pair of wizards to a piece of 2 x 4 and throwing my Precisions in the bin.
Hahaha, yes well it has been done before and in a blind test most people couldn't actually tell the difference between the Fender and the scrap pine (same neck, pups etc.) One day critical mass will shift and we all will know the truth about tone woods, pots etc and people will be happily informed by physicists and technicians rather than salesmen.... I've noticed that it's already starting.
 10. Mine. Prototype #001 (pics straight off Jon's site)
 11.
I stand corrected. So I don't know what the reason for the improvement would be, but the difference was significant. So its not all on the mind.
If the difference was significant then it definitely wasn't all in your mind. There would have been a physical issue in the first instance (like the ones I touched upon before). Hey what's ace is that you fixed it and are delighted with the way it is now though.
 12.
... The fact with a pot that is easily over looked is that it's also a coil and as such we can expect that there will be inductance added to the circuit.... .... So Ou7shined may be along in a mo' and tell me I'm wrong.
A guitar pot isn't a coil. I'm wondering if you meant pickup?
 13.
I've got certificates to tell me I know about electrics and electronics and I would agree with you totally... until I proved myself wrong. I upgraded a bass and bought some nice new 250K pots on EvilBay. With the new pups and bridge and stuff I didn't know what I was going to get. I plugged in and the sound was thin and metalic. OK, some would like it, but it's not my thing. I wire the Bartolini pups straight to the jack and found out what they sound like - totally different. I changed the pots to Fender brand 250K pots and the soul came back into the sound. Far deeper, good woody bass with growl. Ask me to explain and I can't. All I can say is I'm about to make the same investment on another bass to get the improvement again, but this time on a jazz.
One would expect your certs to cover unexpected variables such as dry solder joints or even accidentally wiring the pups out of phase. You asked, and these to me seem more likely explanations than miracles. I guess this thread proves that there are bassists who have faith in faith and there are bassists who put stock in science... ergo bassists are human. QED
 14. What are you looking for in the way of a bass? I've got more than enough spare parts around here to put something together
 15. I hate posting bad feedback. Paid Ash for a P bass body some months ago. It never materialised. [s]All attempts to trace it or resolve the issue have been met with ambivalence.[/s] edit : Ash has returned my funds.
 16. Brian is a great guy to deal with. Trade with confidence. Actually quite fancy that LP myself.
 17. The old ones used to be pretty good - good parts put together pretty well (check out Essex basses on TB) Don't know much about the hooky head jobs.
 18. So are you interested in trades?
 19.
I saw that serial number and wanted to call "shenanigans"...do MusicMan really print the serial number on the bridge like that? I genuinely don't know, but found it extremely surprising that the model would be the first ever left-handed Musicman - just doesn't seem old enough!
Nah it's real enough
 20. Sadly apart from at a private birthday party I've never actually gigged it myself. It was jammed by Sk8 close to packing up time at a bass bash once though.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfLVYWJtrWM
 21.
...Have you seen this? http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3a821d8a64
A bit like the one I built a few years back (although all my wiring is all built in) - The Pee Bass. I have a Shuker bass with the serial 0001. Maybe it will be worth lots one day
 22. It's obviously a broken connection somewhere... or possibly when you put your thumb on it you are shorting out a bare wire on the pup to earth. A competent guitar tech will find the problem within minutes. Take it back to Eric Lindsey and tell him the new wiring loom fixed nothing and get him to look at it and tell what's wrong.
 23.
Great pics Rich.

Epic beardage! \m/ \m/
Cheers guys
 24.
That monster puts mine to shame! How long have you been cultivating?
I've always had a bit of a beard but 2 Decembers ago I decided to really go for it. Had a couple of clipper related relapses since then but I think I'm over the worst of it now.
 25. We headlined the re-opening of our revamped city park this weekend. They reckon there were 5000 people through the gates. It was a 40k rig.... and I was in bass heaven.
