1. Playing through a 40k rig makes you do this face...
 2. 2nd hand 'ray price trends go up and down like a tart's knickers. They rarely ever go below 550 or above 800. Right now they have risen to the 700-750 (asking) range. I paid 600 for my natural '97 a few years back when prices were on the tasty side for the buyer.
 3. Brian flew in past and dropped off a free SX P pup to my door today. You seriously can't get better than that.
 4.
Rich has. He's going to plait it into his nether regions at some point.
Haha. I might try that. edit : open air gig this weekend
 5. Too much (and a dreadful, generic description). There are a few nice 'rays for sale on here at the right price.
 6.
Not got a Gibson - got a 70's Ibanez Destroyer Bass - this one: http://flatericbassa...-and-greco.html Very pointy!....
Aw what did you do that for? Now I've got GAS.
 7. Modulus Graphite
 8. There's only one way to find out............
 9.
That 72 is gorgeous, Rich - really is!
Final bit of thread-jacking. One of my guitards came round today. Almost the first thing out of his mouth was "I never knew you had a Ric". He picked it out of the rack probably expecting the worst, banged out a few fast riffs on it's super fast neck. "Holy f***!" says he as he flops back into the seat "That's about the best bass I've ever played.". He couldn't get over the action and it's "played in" neck, although he did manage to find fault with the occasional bit of fret buzz - hey it's a Ric. I had to solder up a guitar he'd taken round to fix. The whole time he was here he noodled on the Ric..... and not my strat as usual.
 10.
Cool! Glad to hear it. That's why my 2 main basses are both '72s....anything pre-'73 feels very different IMO.
Maybe that's what it is. I played a '74 prior to this and it was boggin'.
 11.
No, you are mistaken sir. I have the best Shukers. .
12. The only thing with buying as an investment is that everyone is having the same idea. One wonders how far this vintage phenomenon will go. Will we see a day when a 50 year old bass is worth not much more than it's real world value due to so many nice examples being stashed away in uncle's lofts wating for the market to mature?
 13.
You got it then? You like?
I like. Completely changed my opinion on how nice they can play and feel... this one at least.
 14. How can it be when I own the finest Shuker ever?
 15.
Surely the truss rod acts against the skunk stripe?
This ^
 16. It's goosed. The glue had become unstuck at that point and the trussrod is pushing it out of the neck. Your neck most likely needs replaced or repaired. Take it to your tech asap. Might be wise to slacken the tr if you think it's really bad.
 17.
Behind the bike shed at home time
Check your super secret PMs
 18.
Pics via pm if required then
What's the rules? Am I allowed to post them here or do we have to look at them in secret?
 19.
So I assume you'll be putting an MM humbucker in it, then?
Hahaha To be honest it might be nice to have something more useful in that spot than the sappy original... but no. It's all about the neck pup on this beast (and to some extent how the the bridge pup interacts with it) so much so I may well be doing something with a 4001 neck pup in my next personal build... watch this space.
 20.
Pics via pm if required then
Will take a couple of snaps for you tomorrow. I honestly hated the feel of Rics until this baby came along and BOOM!
 21.
.... What is this new toy, Rich?
A blonde '72 4001
 22.
I have constant gas for a ric, always have had, right up to the point I pick one up! The gas goes for a week or two then returns again, my lack of interest in none fivers has kept it at bay for a good while now though
You'd like my new toy then.
 23.
...., the neck plate could have been lashed on there to bolster up a failing set neck joint....
Considering the surface area and locked in factor involved in a set neck joint the chances of a fail is slight, obviously not impossible of course but a glued dovetail (or mortise-and-tenon) should in essence be the strongest part of the construction. My only claim to fame connection to Hawkwind was supporting the Hawklords last year. Utterly unforgettable. Great bunch of guys. Adrian and myself (being veggie bassists with a penchant for travel) hit it off immediately. And Snake the stage manager who has a very Lemmy-esque attitude and sense of humour was a blast. They've actually requested us to support them again this year... which is nice.
 24. Bolt on neck?
 25.
Yes i thought they would be pretty weak but can't see that the original VOX ones had a lot of oomph.
If you're stuck. I've got 2 or 3 bronco pups knocking about, I can send you one.
