I've read about a few people on here breaking strings. I have come up with a one string bass. It means that there are less strings to break, therefore less of a problem. I've seen Sandbergs 2 string bass... this is better!
What I do is have a 2 string bass but strung and tuned as 2 one stringeds. That way if I ever break a string (it's not happened in the 30 years I've been playing but I'm expecting one to go any day now) I'll have my back up bass already in my hands saving valuable seconds not picking up a different bass located somewhere else on the stage. True professionalism I think you'll find. I'm currently working on a new system of not playing any strings at all and simply miming along to some sort of pre recorded "background track". I have noticed over the years that people who pay to hear a band play simply can't cope when even the most unpredictable mistakes are made. With this revolutionary system I plan to eliminate all live musical mishaps from ever happening ever again. I'm a firm believer that if you are getting paid to preform you should make the effort to appear as perfect to your audience as humanly possible. I may even at some point remove the physical bass altogether and just have an image of one projected onto me. This way I can play (mime) any high end bass imaginable but at the same time avoid getting a real one damaged by taking it to gigs.

Haha this is getting funny now. At a certain regular bass gathering I attend where all manner of top end gear makes an appearance, time and again a certain MB rig is used as a reference model against all newcomers. I'm proud to say too that at the last gathering the guest speaker, a Mr. Stevie Williams, selected it to use for his bass clinic.
Yeah, unfortunately they are, infact they look clones! Read on the Emg forum, they talk of a phase reversal circuit! Will try the mec wiring swap,if not,may be a case of matched pups.Mec replacement is 180 euros.Ouch! So will be another Emg maybe.
Ah well if they make a circuit for it then that's your get out of jail option, short of (as you say) matching pups. You could hard wire it (switched on) and hide it in your control cavity so you never have to bother with it again. -
Thanks for the quick replies.Sorry didnt mention it,tried that first on the emg and panned to rear emg and it was really distorted, could try it on the Mec,same type wiring. What you reckon?
Yeah it's worth a pop... although it might be more of the same. Are the MECs sealed units like the EMGs? -
Turned both rears 180 degrees if that makes sense?,so much easier with single pups lol
Nope I'm still none the wiser. If you are wanting to the reverse the phase you either need to switch your wires coming off the pup or (not really heard of someone going to these lengths but in theory it will work) switch the magnets around - north to south / south to north. Simply turning the pups around doesn't change the phase in this context. -
Its a Yamaha RBX375 and the space for the on board preamp is pretty small. I will take another look at the Aguilar OBP3 it may just fit, the only reason I said it may not fit is because when i removed the stock preamp it was pretty cramped plus the battery compartment is completly seperate from said preamp area (does this have an actual name?). Does the Aguilar have a volume and balance pot or is it just an eq preamp? Thanks
You will have no problem whatsoever fitting an OBP-3 in one of those, especially since the battery compartment is separate. It's called the control cavity btw. Here's one I fitted in a homemade bass some years back with a similar sized control cavity (note the additional battery is optional) The OBP-3 utilises your existing vol and balance controls. Here's the bumf.

Sadly this one's not original enough to command what at first glance it looks it may be worth. Anything over about £800 and it starts to become a liability. Could be a great player (although without an original MM pre (hen's teeth) it won't sound like a true 'ray) but it ain't a collector's bass or an investment like it's brothers and sisters of the same age.
Well if the Aguilar OBP3 doesnt fit, the OBP2 is designed for tighter control cavities
This bass must be purdy small if it can't fit a 3 in it.

Apparently he's partial to the occasional "bass nerd webpage" so it wouldn't surprise me.

I'd chose an Aguilar OBP-3 (gives switchable 400Hz or 800Hz mid control) and put your bass/treb on a concentric.
do you know if they were rear ported cabs? was the rig set up in the corner and how far from the wall was it?
I'll wager it wasn't front ported - that's where the magic is with these cabs. Question for the OP, were the drivers the familiar bumble bee colour scheme or black ones?
I set the amp flattish and set about indenting the pre-amp on the bass around middle..and tweak to see what I am missing. I may go back to the amp to compensate for the room...and mess with some mids, but I don't need to do much....
+1
