I bought a used Jazz pickguard that had a mysterious hole in the middle, just above the neck pickup. Odd, I thought. Then I got a cheap body off ebay... which has the very same hole! what is it for? ...
Actually, when you bring the two holes into alignment it opens a gateway to an alternate dimension. Use it wisely my friend.
I didnt say it was great? I was just making a point that they have decided to make their instruments accessible to all. Spector basses were supposed to be good, then they made £300 versions, so they lsot credibility. Warwick did the same, everyone does it. DFender are just more honest about it. Didnt say it was 'great', in fact if you've ever seen an Indonesian Precision, they are anything but great!
So we basically agree then. Cool. Just as long as you know that they don't do it out of the kindness of their heart, they do it so that more people give them money.
...I'm not defending U2, but i think its difficult to genuinly criticise them, and substantiate it, they have a pretty good defence against most comments i think??
They have a handful of good songs spanning the years and a promotion/managmet team who are astonishingly good at their jobs. As for "the best rock band on the planet"? Oh please. There I just did it.
....fender have also given everyone, despite budget restrictions, the opportunity to own a Fender...
Why is that so great? So you can say "Look everyone, I have a Fender.... not a very good one... but it's a Fender"? Again, it's an image.
Isn't hate a pretty strong word? - on what basis do you 'hate' him? You may not like his playing or his band, but to 'hate' someone...that's pretty rough.
Come off it. Of course we mean we hate his over hyped band (best rock band in the world - my arse) and infantile playing. It's a bit lame to try and allude that we actually hate a guy we've quite obviously never met (unless your after a "Basschat let's jump on the high morals bandwagon flamer"... we've not had one for a while. ).... .... although by the look of him, I probably would.
How many different types of P-Bass do Fender need? They all sound almost exactly the same, the only difference is that you'll pay out the nose for one of these as opposed to something like a U.S or Japanese P.
Fender are the world leader in terms of sales... but in order to maintain this position and remain competitive, this has lead to them being basically a fashion brand... a vast amount of their sales are due to people buying an image not the essence of the instrument (and certainly not the quality) hence all the different style versions of the same meat 'n' veg.
This section is called "Ebay Links" for a reason, y'know ...
I wondered who was gonna say it like. Anyway....
there is gaffer tape where the straps attached. nothing wrong but as i did a lot of jumping around it kept it on and looked good. im sure if you have the patience to peel it off it can be removed and cleaned up, im looking to sell on and think it looks good anyway so cant be bothered to un peel it.
It looks awful you pikey. Take it off yourself if you want to sell it properly.... unless your too sacred that is?
in fact its 98% mint but the veneer is starting to crack on the front body top horm(photo provided) and again at the middle left of body.
Ooh, right where the gaffer tape is. No wonder your leaving it up to the buyer to remove. It's funny how a buggered body which will need a complete refin to rectify only constitutes 2% of its overall condition in your book. Ebay rawks.

I wonder just how much weight was actually saved by doing that. Not a lot I'll bet. They could at least have got the chisel out and chambered it properly.

I choose 1... but you know which will win.

Who the hell buys these things? Stop it, you're just encouraging the systematic abuse of young basses. -
Offer him a few quid more that he got it for. Win win.

I'd tent to agree with a J pup, as with the P pup in it's sweet spot it doesn't leave much usable space for a 'bucker (unless you want another P in there). The Sandbergs put a Musicman type pup in the bridge position while keeping the P in it's original spot but in the testing I've done (imho) it doesn't do much good in that spot - it's ok but hardly "sweet". The Pingray has it down for ultimate P/MM placement.
You know what Gareth, you're not wrong and I agree with you wholeheartedly ( however you spell that ) if you've found what's good for you in a Precision bass then there's no need to look for a better one, and the only other way is to make the one you have better by fitting a "boutique" pickup like a Fralin or Lollar, Wizard or anything that is better than stock, rather than to get a new bass, after all wood is wood and at the end of the day is the electronic that maketh the sound you get out of it, and a good amp of course. See that bass in my avatar, well that middle pickup on it's own nails the bl00dy P sound down to a tee another reason why I love that old bass, it just rawks!
Cool, is it a split coil?
****SOLD***** So I bought two bronco basses, a black and a red one - I turned the Black one into a sweet Musicmaster (with an Aero Musicmaster Pickup) which was up for sale but I think i'll keep it. **this is being sold as parts/spares or as a project - in its current state, it sounds like ass** The Red Bronco here was meant to become a Mustang. I got the pickups, The Pickguard, the Control plate and a Musicmaster Bridge - all of these had to be imported from the states. then got bored and couldnt be bothered. Along the way I dinged the body and also had to do some routing with a screw driver to fit the new pickup in. I'm looking for £70 ono for everything EXCEPT the 'Death' neck plate - thats a keeper (ill include the original), I should have the original budget strat pickup that they put in the stock bronco, and when I find it, ill include it. Its got a fresh set of D'addario EXL 160s Nickelwound shortscale bass strings. I sprayed the neck with nitrocellulose amber tint to make it look a little less bleached out. Its not a pro job but but it makes the bass look alot better. Heres whats actually included in the sale: Squire Bronco Bass neck (amber nitro tinted) with original Tuners and neck plate- I have a string tee to include but need a screw for it Red Squire Bronco Bass Body - original bridge, pots and wiring. Original pickup when I find it. Fender Mustang Bass pickups (imported from the states) Fender Musicmaster Bridge (you will need to drill the bridge for the strings to go through to make it top loading) WD Parts Mustang Bass Pickguard (pickup holes have been filed badly to let the pickups in) Fender Mustang Bass control Plate two Squire Bronco bass pickguards - one sprayed orange, 1 stock white. Oh, the 'competition stripe' is just black electrical tape. To get the bass to a great condition (ie: better than the original) i would suggest the following: a couple of CTS pots to replace the 500k mini ones. and replace all the wiring. If you dont fancy the Mustang look, slap in a strat-style humbucker or a Aero Musicmaster (if you can find one) slap some carbon paint over the bits I hacked away. *SOLD**
Many thanks Theo. Most of it has arrived. Will PM you the details and we can speak once you get back from your holidays.
