'Quarter-sawn' refers to the way the original tree-trunk was cut, best illustrated with pictures... Wikipedia ... The resulting wood behaves differently from a warp point of view. Quarter-sawn would normally have less warping or twisting tendencies, in general. Hope this helps.

Humble instruments that 'make the song'

Discreet, but important, the claves in this dEUS track (part of our repertoire, and great fun to play...)... -
Spring-loaded, or will it fall off..?

Shameless Plug - Album on Digital platforms
Dad3353 replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
Excellent production all round, given the style. I'm no longer (if ever I was...) a 'jump around' head banger, and only found out what a 'mosh pit' was by reading posts on this forum, but this fits in well with that rowdy, having fun with energy, cult. From the short extracts, I'd choose 'We are at war' as being (slightly...) more in line with what I listen to generally, but all the rest gives generously a fine feeling of exaltation and exuberance. No further comments on the ethereal vocals, trying hard to hide behind the wall of sound, and succeeding. It's as good a 'hook' as any other, I suppose. Taking all into consideration, then, I give this a massive 'thumbs up', and wish the project well. Must be great, 'live'; I'd pay to go to see that, as long as there is seating, preferably not too far from the FOH console with a good view. No, I'll not be joining them in the mosh pit , but they'll be enjoying themselves, for sure. -

For the sound itself, yes, but also the choice of notes. Use the lower register (E2 up to E3 on the 'piano roll', for instance...), for the fundamental bass tones, and the higher registers for melodic runs or such. What kind (style...) of music are you wanting to produce..? -
Oh no..! Not another log in trouble..?

If you don't know how to do that, we can try a step by step 'walk-through'. -

Erik... All the notes played have a velocity maxed out in thta project (as if hitting the strings with a hammer, really...). Reduce the velocity (I set them to 80, for instance...), and it sounds much better. -
Taken just now from Ebay.co.uk, used, 'BIN', with approximate postage costs. I've not selected on make, just availability, but not damaged, of course... Hi-hat £20 HH Stand £15 2 x Cymbal stands £30 20" Ride £25 16" Crash £25 Total £115 There are also packs of 'beginner' cymbals starting at £20 or so. Is that expensive as a 'get you going' deal..?

If there's urgency, maybe have the original pickup put back for now..? What bass, and what pickup..? Someone may recognise their compatibility. -
Reaper Help please. Using FX when recording and playback
Dad3353 replied to Thunderpaws's topic in Recording
Wow, I've been using (modestly...) Reaper for several years now, and had never come across this way of adding Fx to a track..! (The 'right click' is on the 'Track' 'recording armed' button, by the way, not the 'Transport' record button...) It just highlights the utility of reading the very extensive manual(s), maybe several times..! I've just tried it out, recording two tracks of my bass, the first with a Boogex amp preset, the second with an Ozone reverb preset. No apparent latency, though, on my i5 PC, or, at least, nothing that disturbed my playing to the metronome. Other Fx, or bunging in a whole lot more, could change that though, I suppose. On the other hand, I'm not sure why one would want to 'bake in' Fx in this way. It's true that I'm rather a drummer; bass players may have different ways of doing stuff. Still, it's an insight, and very useful to know. Thanks for the tip; another string to my bow when composing, so it's all good..! -
For many years I was the lighter for a ska/rock/punk band, here in France (Kiemsa...); your anecdote brings back many memories of similar (and worse..!) situations. Thanks for posting.

OK; whatever. There appears to be two spellings doing the rounds, so... Never mind, back to the topic; s'no matter.

By this same reasoning, are there any brave enough to listen to the hi-hat and say whether it's a Zildian, Paiste or Sabian (others are available; the list is long...), and what diameter, or model..? Is that a Vistalite kit on that track or are they oak shells..? What sticks..? Nylon-tipped or not..? Does any drummer, in any of your bands, change snare drums, mid-set, to get 'that' sound..? Hmm... I'm not suggesting that there is no difference at all in basses, but I certainly think (in fact, I'm pretty convinced...) that it's very much over-thunk by bass players (well, those on this forum, anyway...). I've known lots of players that are more concerned about the difference between accented semi-quavers and staccato notes than what wood the fingerboard is made from. An interesting enough subject, of course, but with no possible conclusion, in my view.

Fixed. (No, not simply pedantry; there really is a Brandi Wynn, but she's not the bass player with OT...)

Back in the days of 100 watt valve amps, the power stage was always connected to the output transformer, so always 'saw' the same load, and delivered the same wattage. The other side of the transformer matched the cabs, and more speakers meant more air being moved, so louder.
