  1. A velcro band around the nut to dampen open strings.
  2. It seems to be the Mac he's moving away from; Logic Pro only runs on a Mac OS. To answer the OP, I'd suggest looking at the spec and screenshots of the main contenders and downloading a trial version of whatever you think might be a fit for you. I think you can get splendid results from pretty much any of the main DAWs (I use Reaper, but we're all different, so...). Edit: I may have misunderstood the 'Mac' part, but the essence of my reply rests.
  3. Definitely more glitter. One can never have too much glitter in these circumstances. Thick varnish, too, help a lot. When I say 'thick', I really mean 'very thick indeed'. And did I mention 'more glitter'..?
  4. Good afternoon, BB, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Please allow me to advise removal of the picture..? The phrase in itself is fine, but the 'religious' interpretation depicted is against Forum 'no politics, no religion' rules. Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation. Douglas
  5. Thin end of the wedge right there. In my younger days it was The Incredible String Band and Love. You young'uns indeed..!

    Hi-

Good afternoon, G, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  7. Wagner can be wearing, à la longue.
  8. Why are you looking at Ebay..? Get back to your studying..! ...
  9. I solved the weight 'problem' in two different ways. My 'go-to' bass is a Hofner Verithin, and for playing my sixer fretless, or any heavier basses, I sit down. No weight issues here. As for the sound : I play the sounds that the instrument has. They're all good, to me. I'm not trying to emulate anyone or anything. If it's rauque, I play rauque. If it's soft, I play soft. I'll play to whatever the bass/amp/cab has to offer, and make the best 'pig's ear' out of it that I can. Disclaimer : I'm a drummer but have the same attitude to drums...
  10. A typically swingeing 'broad-brush' opinion, but I doubt that it covers all the bases, or even some of 'em. Budget is a concern for some (many..?), but a more expensive bass is not a guarantee of being a better 'fit', so I disagree.
  11. Are you saying that you actually sit down and listen quietly to punk's simplicity and brutality..? ...
  12. Maybe it's a function of whether one enjoys jumping up and down or sitting quietly and listening..?
  13. With the different basses and guitars I have, there's no commonality in necks/width/weight/profile/whatever. They're all the same to me (disclaimer : I'm not very good with any of 'em...). I can understand for a high-flying virtuoso preferring a particular set-up, but for most of us, I reckon it's just habit, and not having used other instruments. To each his/her own, or course.
  14. ... and so young. Bless... How Was Your Gig Last Night ..?
  15. Like this..? ...or this ..?
  16. Hofner Verithin bass, so an Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire (My Dad had one just like this for quite a while...)...
  17. I can't stand the stuff from any punk, ie sex pistols/ramones etc. I have yet to find a song from that genre I like.
  18. Ah, this is new. One can say 'bloke', but not 'bird'. Hmm...
  19. Here is my contribution to the June 2021 Basschat Composition Challenge, inspired by a picture chosen by the previous winner: myself..! Down to the sea goes Brittany, to listen to the waves, gulls, passing ships with their sirens and horns blaring occasionally. Inspired by the festive ambiance (although it may rain...), she dances, waiting for her uncle, the diver, to immerge from the salt water. Recommended to be listened to on decent headphones, quite loud, but not so loud as to be uncomfortable, naturally. As seems to be my wont, I sit down and try out a few things, sticking samples, licks, riffs and rhythms into Reaper, and suddenly I can't stop until it's finished, and I'm surprised myself when I listen back to it all. All of this is samples, coerced into partnership, sometimes against their will, but it seems to work, goodness knows how. Some very slight automation tweaking with the levels and a spot of reverb, and that's about it. A couple of compressors are in play; all is standard Cockos (Reaper...) Fx. That's all, folks. Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy. Edit : I've re-rendered the piece through a newly-acquired Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain, using the Pop & Dance preset; it's brought out a fair bit of detail, improving it enough to keep, I think, so I've replaced the file.
  20. It's pretty unique; it must be the same one; they added elephants and giraffes later. Bloomin' crazy, in the nicest possible way. But anyway ...
  21. How much work do you want to put into it, or are you looking for a one-box, 'plug'n'play' drum set..? Do you have a sample player..? If so, which one..? How about Kontakt (can do more than drums, but has some decent stuff...)..? I can recommend several, but it depends on what you'll be using. More detail, please..? (Disclaimer : I don't know anything about Logic...)
  22. For those that may not know the story, here's a background video. The team came to our village once; unforgettable...
