1. edit: read more thread before replying (and repeating)
2.
Hey no worries, thanks for checking! Looks like it may have to be Ultralites after all. Do you know if the screw hole for an Ultralite would be hidden by the plate of the regular Fender 70s tuner if the originals were put back on?
The hole needed to fit an ultralite can't be seen when the original tuners go back on.
3.
Thanks!
Totally forgot about this sorry... Hipshot HB2 92g Hipshot Ultralite 54g 70's style Fender tuner 110g Gotoh GBR640 62g
4. I've got some figures for these at home as I've owned most types and made a point of weighing them all - I'll let you know the details when I get home
5. Bump, still enjoying this bass, but still in need of something more upright-ish as a priority
6.
Four hours? Wimps! You could do that on a bicycle ...
Its not the four hours, its the time to fit in the four hours! I'll be in Bristol next week, USA the week after, Czech the week after that (and I will be trying to check out some DB's whilst there)
HI legion, you gonna get back into Double Bass, just got myself another after 2 year layoff due to domestic issues lol, hope your well mate
Hi Jez, all good here thanks. All being well yes, I'd love to get back to the DB. If I can find something nice in my price range
7. Ditto - I'm also after a nice loud DB for purely acoustic use at the moment and don't have a huge budget (well, I don't have any budget really) but I'm similarly 4 hours away.
8. Sorry to hear it was disappointing mate. My Gibson experience was the same unfortunately. A short scale decade is a great alternative :-P
9.
That looks awesome!
As good as it looks Weekend bump and price drop to £1700
10.
I'll mention it to him, but he probably won't be inclined to bite at the moment.
To my surprise, he was I'll let you know if I hear back from him about this.
11.
IMHO, the lakland sounds better than the Pino by far. By the way, I have seen videos of Palladino at the studio, always with a Lakland....
Interesting, I like them both for the different flavours they offer. Although a Decade with the Picato flats is pretty much the sound in my head
12. A non-Basschatter friend of mine has the rosewood version of this (he always wanted a maple one but has stopping playing much lately). Cracking basses and not something you see very often. I'll mention it to him, but he probably won't be inclined to bite at the moment.
13.
hi. can you tell me what is that white point on the neck?
Someone has just put dot stickers on the fingerboard, should peel off no problem.
14. I've literally just driven back from trying out a Double Bass that's up for sale local to me and I have to confess to having an epiphany about it - I really miss the physicality of playing a DB and the tone. I now know I'm ready to go in that direction again after a few years. I also just got a call from a friend (its taking me ages to write this ad due to all the interruptions!) and he has lined up a great bunch of people locally and wants me on bass, DB if possible as there's an accordion in the line up. Likely to be very Madeline Peyroux inspired. So unfortunately this recent, very rare purchase has to go in order to generate some funds. When I say rare I mean it...I've never seen another one come up for sale apart from this which is why I felt compelled to snag it. It's a Lakland US Decade with the normal (neo) Chisonic pickups and a short scale neck. Great bass, well balanced, beautifully built, lovely smooth neck and a good weight at a shade over 8lbs. It's in Ocean Turquoise metallic so pictures tend not to capture that very well. Clean original cream hard case obviously included. I've fully shielded the cavity and grounded the pickups so its hum-free and ready to go. I realise these are somewhat niche so I'm expecting to have to wait for the right buyer to come along, but there's no hurry at my end. Looking for [s]£1750[/s] [s]£1700[/s] [s]£1650[/s] [s]£1600[/s] £1550 If you want to know what it sounds like, head over to here: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2373179 EDIT: forgot to add, has a finish crack at the neck pocket, very common issue on the top poly coat. Very hard to see this, only visible in the right light (tough to photograph thats for sure) More pics to follow
15. That bridge looks very strange, most blank bridges I've fitted already came with a much thinner profile than that. I wonder if the increased (unecessary) mass of the bridge might absorb more vibration than it should, particularly with the adjusters as well, attenuating a lot of the acoustic response that might otherwise be heard.
16. Another +1 from me. Love these straps, got a wide and a normal one. Although I have to say the wider ones seems both thinner and softer (which is even more comfortable)
17. Very nice - mind if I ask how you managed to get a decal for the headstock? as I've considered the same thing myself.
18. Sounds like a nice spot to be in I've also added the TI's - couldn't resist...it's either them or the Sunbeams I think. Soundcloud has been a right pain today so maybe try again later and see if its working better. EDIT: updated the links as well, probably another glitch from Soundcloud playing up earlier
19. Well, not really a versus but after Dave asked what the Decade sounded like in the Lakland thread I started doing some recordings of different strings (because to be honest I forget what they sound like myself!). When I bought this I couldn't listen to any recordings beforehand as nobody had posted any so I thought it might be a useful comparison for interest. I often end up with an expensive string-fest with Decade basses as I like the rounds and the flats and can't decide. The Decade had an old set of Sunbeams on when I bought it: https://soundcloud.com/sakura-1-1/shorty-sunbeam I've also tried Picato flats https://soundcloud.com/sakura-1-1/shorty-picato And finally GHS flats: https://soundcloud.com/sakura-1-1/shorty-ghs EDIT: TI flats as well: https://soundcloud.com/sakura-1-1/shorty-ti I've got some Thomastiks but not done any recordings to match with those and I don't want to mess about anymore for now or I'll go mental. Personally I think the Picatos are very close to the GHS (and Lakland flats), just a little bit darker. Sunbeams are my favourite rounds anyway so I'll keep them handy. And just for fun I recorded the same clip with the Pino with a well played in set of TI's https://soundcloud.com/sakura-1-1/pino-ti-1 I still don't really know which strings I prefer on the Decade, but I think I'll stick with the GHS for a bit.
20.
Jeannie's pick guards in the States, or more locally perhaps, The Gallery in Camden just made the plate for my black 55-94 in the post immediately before yours.
I'm afraid Jeannie's is on hold - sadly Roger passed away and no decision has been made yet regarding the future of the company.
