1. Same situation as the BB2 cab - departure of singer and collapse of band means I have more need for cash than I do for a powerful, portable gig-rig. Mint condition Puma 900, with original box & manual etc. I have made one modification under the instructions of Thomas (from Tecamp). The more recent versions of this amp have a small fan that is 'always on' to cater for people who were running them hard into 4 ohm loads. As I've only ever run it into my BB2 which is 8ohm it doesn't get hot at all so I've modified the fan to only run when hot, instead of all the time. This involved desoldering one end of a single resistor and lifting it, which was effectively the same as cutting it, or removing it completely. I figured this way it would be easier to restore the functionality if needed in the future. Just to reiterate, the fan will cut in when hot, it just doesn't run all the time regardless of temperature. This makes the amp utterly silent in use and was everything I needed as it also has the headphone out and aux in. £595 posted. *SOLD*
2. Well, it pains me to be in this situation but the departure of our singer means the whole band collapsed and chances of needing a gig-rig of this magnitude are slimmer than ever. I've got the PJB and that is more than capable enough for rehearsals really. Mint condition, always used the roqsolid cover. Basically save yourself the wait and get one that is already broken in and has a cover as well. Lovely clean sounding cab with a great range and response. Only ever used with my Puma 900 which puts 600W into this load. Collection much preferred and I can meet up somewhere in the middle if its not too far. I might be able to find some sort of box to put it in otherwise. £599 collected. *SOLD*
3. Ok, lets try this once more - now down to £1550 to see if I can generate some more interest
4. Rob Allen (mouse 30 or MB2) finding them second hand is not impossible, although a lefty is a step up in rarity that could make it a problem.
5. Trade option has fallen through due to logistics so bump
6.
Seriously tempted, but will have to sell some stuff first ... will keep an eye on it!

Utterly stunning. Love that blue headstock.
Thanks guys - another bump for the weekend. For anyone on the fence, time may be running out as I have a trade lined up if we can work out the logistics.
7.
What kind of trade offers would interest you? I have a 2009 L&G JB (Jazz Bass - USA built) ... stunning instrument & absolutely mint. I've been thinking of selling it as I simply don't use it enough & it really should go to someone who will ... I'm not entirely decided yet, but let me know if that might appeal. I'd probably be looking at a trade value of around £1000.
Fair question - not one I'd put much thought into yet... Double basses...(adjustment either way) EUBs (maybe, very picky about these) Maybe a road worn jazz + cash Something off-the-wall-different

9.
I personally would rather play a double bass but wouldnt want to play something that didnt sound decent and it can be very frustrating amplifying it, but theres something very satisfying in playing the double bass even if its only simple, ive recently been playing some country/bluegrass which is mainly root n fifths but when you get the groove happening its just great, and i think a big part of that is pulling the sound from an acoustic instrument and the look!
I'm with you on this - which I why I felt so set on getting a proper DB again after I tried out the old hofner recently. Incidentally I followed up on a similar bass on gumtree recently only to find out that is was actually that bass (after some work had been done). I got quoted about £1200 for a Strunal 5/21, set up to my liking and sent from Czech republic (directly from Strunal) and I think I might end up going that route soon.
10.
HI Mate, your playing on that soundclip sounds fine, good intonation, what would you be most happy playing? I watched a band a few weeks ago and the guy playing the Double had a cheapish bass i think and looked to be using a bassmax pickup and a low action, it sounded worse than your Rob Allen, if you get a double make sure it has a decent acoustic sound to start with.
Hi Jez - thanks for that, useful feedback to hear that the Rob Allen could sound better than a not so good DB setup. Probably helped by the lack of variables that could impact it. Primarily I'll be playing it acoustically so that it would need to project nicely and have a good bit of volume. In answer to what I am most happy playing...I'm not quite sure yet as I've not managed to get my hands on a nice DB (or EUB) for comparison.
11. BassBod - thanks for the musings, always welcome. I suppose most of the time I would be able to get away with playing a DB acoustically (which is how I used to use one exclusively). I realise that if things pick up with this project then gigs are pretty likely, at which point it might become necessary to amp up. Hmm...
12. I'm a little unsure where to go next so hoping for a little advice.... I currently have a Rob Allen MB-2 which is a lovely bass. Sounds warm and woody, is lightweight and easy to play. As there is a valid point that a tiny minority of basschatters ever post recordings or talk about playing I thought I'd do a very quick recording of the RA to show what it sounds like (this is through the PJB amp, miced up, all very basic as I don't have any fancy recording gear). Excuse the imperfections This also shows why so few people might not like to post recordings, because we might see ourselves as crap! https://soundcloud.c...allen-mb-2-test So, having playing double bass before, but never amplified I'm not sure how much different it would sound once I've attached a pickup of whatever type and put it into an amp? This is without all the considerations of what strings to use, what pickups to use, what amp to use etc etc. I do understand however, that the double bass by its very nature leads to certain playing style (one of the things I miss, although I think having played one before I can carry a little of that "feel" over to the RA). So another thought is EUB's...could that be the answer to a nice DB sound (and playing style) but without the hassles of the real thing? By the way - here is the original track I'm 'attempting' to play
13. Bump - I'm opening this to interesting trade offers as well.
14. Bump, and another price drop to £1600 - I'm rather annoyed that the person I bought it from has lowballed me on ebay with a 3rd ebay username which he seems to think I'm not savy enough to realise is him. I would much rather see this go to a good home with a Basschatter
15. A stuck-in-the-airport-cos-my-plane-was-cancelled type bump. Only another 5 hours of waiting...
16. Despite me getting the clock changes reversed and causing Les to wait around for half an hour (good excuse for breakfast roll) he was a pleasure to deal with and now owns a very early Tony Franklin.
17. Something more upright-ish has come my way... Bump and possibly the last price drop to £1650
18. Thanks for the interest folks, bass now sold.
19.
Wonderful basses. I have a 2007 model too and as Gareth says, the build quality is equal to an Custom Shop Fender I've played. I'd be quite tempted to buy this and have it fretted. It would be sacrilegious though.
I've been known to have the same thought - although I wouldn't do it this one:)
20.
I drive to Suffolk AND to Swindon. Let me know if I can help
Now that's a very generous offer, thanks
Very nice indeed. Are there fret markers along the neck? Thanks.
There are dots on the neck at the fret position which I find completely natural to use, here's a quick picture to demonstrate:
21. I'll sort some pictures later (or tomorrow) but this is a very early example in sunburst with the headstock signed by Tony Franklin himself. I'm pretty sure this, and the SZ7***** serial number means it is one of the first 50 off the production line when this bass was introduced. Its all in standard trim, including D tuner, excellect condition with only scuffing of the pickguard and one small impression dent on the back. Original case in good condition. The neck has yellowed nicely over the last 7 years so it doesn't have that anemic look thats common. Plays and sounds great, not much more to say really. Oh, the weight is just over the 9lbs mark and the bass has an unusually robust feel about it. Not sure if thats the weight or what, but it feels indestructible compared to the other TF's I've owned. *SOLD* Jas
