1. I'm a convert to the new Fender Rumble 500 combo. I've used it at my last two pub gigs and I've been very happy with the lack of weight but nice tone
2. Basschat at it's best! Great communication and totally reliable. Cheers Dave

4. Glad you got it sorted. I've been using the PF-800 with a single Portaflex 2 x 10 and whilst happy with the tone, it never did feel like 400W @ 8ohms.( For some gigs I've used an MXR micro amp) to boost the signal of my passive Jazz.(lighter than taking a second cab) I've A/B'd it recently with a new Fender V3 Rumble 500 combo ( 2 x 10 350W @ 8 ohms) and whilst rated lower, the Fender has far more headroom....and a very nice tone to boot.
5. Hi, Here is my Ampeg Portaflex PF-210HE cab available. For those not familiar, it's a 2 x 10 400W 8 ohm cabinet with a handy flip top so you can store cables, etc and comes with castors. Please note that this has been gigged and therefore the tolex does show some signs of wear. Only one is visible from the front (see photo) and the others are on the bottom of the rear. Looking for collection or near meet close to J13 M25 (Staines, Heathrow area) Price is [s]£200[/s] NOW £150 collected or close delivery Any questions, just ask. Cheers, Jim
6. I always try to find a good reason to have more than one Fender '76 Jazz (My main bass) European Upright (Other gigging bass) Warwick Alien (Acoustic requirements covered - alongside Roland Cube amp) SBMM Stingray CA (I have to have a Stingray in there somehow) Ibanez Portamento Fretless ( Fretless covered and helps when I don't have to lug the upright to rehearsals) Fender 'Mark King' Jazz Bass (No sensible reason for this one I'm afraid) Ortega Acoustic (See Fender Mark King reason)
7.
If you want the Marcus Miller tone & also keep the passive sounds then why not get a Sadowsky outboard preamp - the preamp in Marcus Millers bass is a Sadowsky.
Good idea for the Sadowsky preamp. (Just a note but MM's internal preamp is actually a Bartolini which was fitted by Roger Sadowsky:))
8. I use an MXR Micro amp pedal on my passive J to boost the signal when I need it. Does the job and doesn't affect the tone.
9. I use a passive Jazz for most of my gigs and there are times when I need it to cut through the band just a bit more but without sacrificing the tone that I like so much. ( I also didn't want an additional EQ to worry about) I stuck an MXR Micro Amp in my chain and hey presto, one button to worry about and an 'active' bass when I need it!
10. For me, I always go to see the live stage / masterclasses and the exhibition is the bonus. I really enjoyed Leland Sklar ( love the 'producer switch' story). Mo Foster / Jeff Berlin were also interesting to listen to. John Taylor was as interesting as his book The whole event enthuses me which can only be a good thing but I fear that some people will only appreciate it when it's gone.
11. I recently got my hands on a sunburst CA with maple neck. I'm really pleased with it. Stingray sound and a jazz neck. I would have preferred the contoured body but the slab body is not the end of the world. Very interested to hear how the fretless sounds..
12. Unfortunately, I'm busy that weekend but here's my quick visit plan. Doable? Get there for about 3pm on the Saturday, hopefully get a ticket for Paul Turner, spend a couple of hours looking at nice bass things (I need some strings as we'll) and then head home. See you all there, hopefully
13. I've always been drawn back to a Stingray but I always struggled with the neck. Then, I found a Sterling by Musicman Ray 34 ca. Looks like a stingray, sounds like a stingray, half the price of a MIA Stingray and is fitted with a 38mm 'Jazz' neck. I'm so happy with this bass. The only thing missing for me is the contoured body but other than that, it's fantastic.
14. And sold to my old (although deceptively young looking) mate Tim
15. Looking to move to a 410 so my Portaflex 115 is up for grabs. This is the one with the flip top lid which even if you don't use an Ampeg head, acts as a pretty handy storage area for cables, etc. Immaculate condition as I only ever used it for my extension cab to my 210 a couple of times, otherwise it's stated indoors. Castors fitted. Collection required from the J13 M25 area (Floods permitting) or meet up close by. Photos to be added later. Cheers, Jim
16. Lol....Actually, the Mark King is actually the one that I play the least but alas, it's going nowhere for now
17. Hi Conan, I originally bought this to play a few tracks where I needed the extra frets. That moment has passed now so it's never going to replace my '76 passive Jazz. If you like your J basses active, then this packs a punch. Slightly smaller body and fairly light compared to my others.Great slap sound if that's your thing. As for the Miller, my soft spot for Jazz basses already includes one of those, so no need at the moment. Cheers
