Also, as mentioned, I’m in discussion with Andras about implementing a way to copy/move patches using only the pedal itself and that is looking like it’ll be doable. Furthermore, in v4 you have full 128-step resolution of the on-pedal parameter edits (unlike the coarse 10-step ones in v1-3).
-
That’s already the case to some degree: the latter patches are given over to delays, choruses and reverbs.

Well, there’s definitely bass stuff in the works… -
So would I. In fact I’ve added a poll to the FI Facebook group to ask.

Polyphonic pitch detection is very difficult, requiring lots more resources than monophonic tracking. That’s not to say it couldn’t perhaps be done as one of the two currently-unused apps in the pedal. Polyphony/paraphony has already been under discussion (for MIDI-triggered uses). I’d like to push the idea of on-pedal patch management as that will benefit all users.

This is looking promising as we’ve had some further discussion about it…

I purposefully didn’t recommend the Aures2 as I personally found the sound quite disappointing. When I played it (on a GL-30 or GL-10 grand I believe) I could really hear a sort of locational “distance” to the sound: I could really hear that it was coming from the the transducers further back in the piano as opposed to the sound coming from right in front of you when playing acoustically. The other thing is that, as soon as the piano strings are even slightly off concert pitch, layering with the digital engine results in phasing and chorusing.

It’s inevitable to look for comparisons. Here’s the FI v3 doing a classic Greg Philingaines part and coping pretty well: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dt5u-xJGXNTmXBKSkYH7fSTBPm5vTlgV/view?usp=drivesdk Here’s the isolated part: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EBujKhsBj4awZp1YbbgglrSPeljJ_R2H/view?usp=drivesdk

Definitely give the Kawai NV5S a try. It’s a proper piano piano action (full key sticks and hammers) but a digital back end and is really good. Obviously not the same as an acoustic. Kawai also has the ATX-4 system on some of their acoustic uprights, allowing you to access headphone-only playing and recording (via phone app though). (Earlier ATX models had a built-in screen.)

Funny you should say that; I’d made a similar suggestion during FI v4 development. One of the next things in the pipeline is a neural-net trained tracking system which will improve things further (using real-world playing clips). During testing, we got a taste of how fast this could be but it was causing crashes. Once those wrinkles have been ironed out, it’ll be fantastic. @LawrenceH please duplicate your post in the big FI thread.

I’m reiterating here as there’s been a bit of chatter related to this on the MXR bass synth thread. I’ve finally had a bit of headspace to flesh out a nice UI for an old idea of mine to allow for the ability to copy/move patches on the pedal itself without recourse to the editor. It would only require a minor alteration to the current store workflow. I’ve sent it to the team. It remains to be seen whether the underlying system will easily allow it.
-
In theory this ought to be possible as the patch files contain a 32-character name already. That could easily be done in the next update. (Even before as it’s just a question of assembling them and uploading the bank file to the cloud.) I presume rhetorical. Mainly because no one has bothered to do any. I did get Panda to send Gaz Williams a unit with the express outcome that he’d record a video but a year on he’s still not got around to it! I’ve just revived an old idea of mine for being able to move patches around on the pedal without recourse to the editor as I’ve finally had the headspace to flesh out a nice UI for it. Let’s see if it’s possible as regards the actual coding.

I am not familiar with this pedal. I wonder if it’s using a similar principle to the Boss SY-1 which doesn’t actually do any pitch conversion, rather it overlays/processes the incoming audio with additional spectral information to give the impression of a synth; there there is no tracking latency as it’s not tracking pitch at all.
-
Partly lack of marketing, partly not loading it with cover band patches. Even if not using the editor, with a few properly tailored presets, the V4’s onboard controls would give you way more control than the MXR (apart from the lack of a compressor) and without recourse to hidden secondary functions.
-
As I said, this is an old clip done on v3. V4 has hugely improved tracking by comparison, and also has the ability to switch tracking priority modes. There are further improvements in the pipeline too. Octaves will always present a problem to any pitch-detection system as an octave above the fundamental (2nd harmonic) is always strongly present in most real-world instruments.
-
Did that on the FI v3 a while ago. It’s a bit slower than the proper tempo. Tracking on the v4 is much better than what is heard here: https://m.soundcloud.com/peter-kenney-750235819/qm-aint-noboday-2a

Yes, you should just be able to attach an expression pedal and adjust the mod depth at the toe-down position, perhaps opening the cutoff a small amount too and that should get you there.
-
What kind of things do you normally assign to the mod wheel on your Moog? Expression on the MXR allows you to morph most settings between two values (with interpolation).

Labella 760FS have black silks, and I think a few Dunlop strings do too.
