  2. Turn the amp envelope sustain parameter to zero. Raise the amp decay slider until it fades at the rate you want.
  3. Seriously, download latencymon. There’s a guide which tells you why the processes are and which ones are safe to disable. You can also do something about the processor - many have a power saving mode which speeds it up and slows it down as required. This needs turning off to so that the processor runs at full speed the whole time. There are other options within the power management menu that control stuff like window transitions, animations, etc, all of which take their toll. I think all this might have been covered in the latencymon document too.
  4. Windows or Mac? It is affected by many factors. Faster processor helps as does sticking in as much memory as it’ll take. Do you have an external audio interface? That will help. If not, download and install ASIO4ALL and disable all other sound drivers. Disable stuff like mics, onboard speakers, DVD drive and internet cards (wireless and wired). Other things that slow stuff down are background processes. Check what’s loading at startup and disable anything you don’t need. Download and run Latencymon and you’ll see what’s hogging processing power. Go through the list and remove or disable anything that isn’t needed.

  9. I've made loads of headway today in porting my II-V-I progression ideas that I originally developed for the Future Impact over to the C4. I'm using a Morningstar MC8 to control a few things. I've got the 3rds and 7ths working so that the voice leading is smooth. That is, the 7th of one chord falls a semitone to form the 3rd of the next chord whereas the third of one chord remains at the same pitch to form the 7th of the next chord. I’ve used the harmoniser to do this but implemented it such that the same C4 voice (1-4) plays the same positional note in the chord, i.e. voice 1 always plays the lowest note in the chord, irrespective of what chord tone it might be. This involves using midi to switch the interval of the harmoniser when changing chord. It also involves some octave shifting depending on whether the bass note is moving up a 5th or down a 4th to the next root. I’ve managed to implement it using only two buttons on the MC8. The first is a momentary button for when you play the dominant chord which inverts the positions of the 3rd and 7th so as to preserve the smooth voice leading. The second button allows you to choose whether the bass moves up-down-up or down-up-down while keeping the voicings played on the same register in both permutations. The 9ths and 5ths/6ths, I had to do manually via fixed interval offsets as the C4 only allows two automatically harmonised pitches at once. Here's a first taste. The first clip uses a basic patch and just goes through each voice first showing that it is leading correctly then I put them together.   11. Even sealed units can have firmware updates via midi ports or USB ports as the FI, Morningstar gear, etc do if set up to do so. I have no idea about Tech 21 stuff. One thing to bear in mind is that the majority of FI users probably don’t use MIDI as they use the pedal on its own. This seems to be borne out by online discussion. We MIDI users are in the minority. I didn’t read your request as a demand. I was just trying to give a fuller picture of the considerations that go into the update process. I say this as someone who has had some of my ideas incorporated and had others rejected. Of course I’d adopt a less self-righteous tone in the manual. 😆
  12. Do the bass pedals allow preset switching too? I meant that you could use the moose to switch Minitaur presets too. Or does the moose only ever output on one channel?

  14. The hardware switcher still has its own firmware and could probably be updated if Tech 21 were of a mind to offer the feature. Have you asked them? I don’t have a problem in adding a line to the manual stating that the FI responds as it should 1:1 to the PC messages it is sent. Code space in the FI is preciously low and there are some yet-to-be implemented features which require it more pressingly. It’s always a trade-off as to what features most users are going to find important, and I say this with no exaggeration or malice but you are literally the only person who has raised this particular point with regard to the FI (that I’m aware of) in all the discussion I’ve had and read about the product over the past few years.
  15. And I fully agree with Andras; the FI behaves as it should and shows program 1 when sent PC 1. So I stand by my statement that the “problem” is with the controller. Your controller is likely displaying 1 but sending PC 0, which you could verify by plugging it into any MIDI monitoring software such as MIDIOX or C6.

  17. I did write the manual as I volunteered to do it after getting involved in voluntary patch writing and bug testing as I thought it would benefit users. You probably missed that info as it was in the old FI thread which I started as a means to helping users get their head around it. I locked thy thread and started this one when v3 was launched as much of the information was superseded. I wasn’t apportioning blame and I can understand that thinking I were one of their employees would be a reasonable conclusion to draw. Hopefully all is clarified now.
  18. On another note, given the founder of MIDI is alive and well, we could ask him which “standard” is correct. Dave Smith of Sequential is pretty engaged with the community and even has a weekly “ask sequential” slot which the company puts out on YouTube and other social media on Fridays.   19. @prowla, @GisserD is correct. The “support” I do on these pages is done as a hobby, albeit one I'm pretty serious about. I’m not a company representative in an official capacity. (I also spend time on the SA and Morningstar communities helping out people for which I am also not paid. I spent well over an hour last night helping someone to troubleshoot a controller issue.) As far as there being a standard 0-127 is more usual. If you think about it from a standard parameter standpoint; which is more logical - a volume control or LFO depth that runs from 1-128 or one that runs 0-127, especially when zero volume or LFO depth is present? There are probably plenty of controllers out there which will work just fine. I merely recommended the MC6 as it’s fantastic and does so much useful and cool stuff. It allows amazing possibilities on the FI. Also, as I mentioned, James at Morningstar is very receptive to customer input and feedback and has already expressed interest in adding a feature which will deal with these out-by-one issues on some other devices. (Out of interest, have you used the controller to control your Minitaur? That’s another device which runs 0-127 I believe as PC engages panel mode.) Please don’t read any sarcasm or snippiness in my tone as none is intended.
  20. I originally did this on my Moog Subsequent 37. I then recreated it using the C4 a couple of days ago and now I've done an FI version. Patch is available on the Panda online database site.
  21. The FI isn't the issue rather the controller you used. My MC8 uses 0-127 and PC 1 on it corresponds to PC 1 on the FI. If you can, get a device that allows the limiting of PC scroll messages (like the MC6 and MC8 do) and simply set the lower and upper limits as 1 and 99 respectively and it all works perfectly.
  22. I woke up with a cool idea this morning. Those of you who follow the FI thread may have seen that I came up with a way to play five-note II-V-I progressions which have all smooth voice leading which changes depending on which direction the roots move (up a 4th/down a 5th). I’ve just thought of a way to get the voice leading to work on the C4’s harmoniser using my MC8. The 3rds and 7ths will be straightforward; the 5ths, 6ths and 9ths will be trickier but I think I can do it. I think I’ll be able to do my chord inversions idea too. Annoyingly I’m going to be busy with other stuff all day so probably won’t be able to get to it until tomorrow or Monday. Watch this space...
