1. As with all effects, 'common wisdom' may not suit your purposes so just try out your pedals in different orders and see what works for you. There is no right or wrong really. I find guitarists are far more constrained in this manor as they are basically always copping sounds off records and the 'rules' apply more rigidly then, whereas bass players don't hear much affected bass (besides the guy from muse who seems to have spawned a host of imitators) so can do whatever they like! Can you tell it's Friday afternoon at work? When else would i enter into effect ordering philosophy! Need to start preparing to go home - although the tapping keyboard sounds good to my boss's ears.

*edit*

You missed it when it was in the classifieds then! I posted it this morning by the way so you should have it Tuesday/Wednesday.
3. ..and then there's me who's moving to Bristol in November/December time - if the ale night is a regular fixture then I might have to sign up! Don't know where I'll be yet - hoping to be in/around the Horfield area around Gloucester Road (it's the only bit I liked when looking round!)
4. Tom - I'll check some of that no-logo stuff out when I'm back on a home connection! Sounds interesting.
5. Some seriously nice looking boards going on here. There are also some which appear to be practically unusable to my eyes; cheddatom, that all looks like you need to be crawling around on your knees to use it - is it work in progress? Also some without any kind of true bypass system in place - which is ok with a few high end pedals, but once you've a couple of boss buffers in the mix your clean sound is fooked! dutchwife - I had exactly the same excuse for my 10+ pedals being in a two piece band. The drummer had V-drums and a sampler which made it even more fun. I think the fact that I did all the vocals moderated me in the pedalboard department as it had to be totally functional and practical in order to use it whilst also doing vocals (and swithcing vocal effects to ). Muse-cubed - Looking good mate - what's the signal chain going to be there? Tayste - I'm done with huge boards; just going to keep it simple from now on. Although there's space for a couple of little'uns on there
6.
interesting looper you got that mate, whats the make? or a custom built jobby?
There didn't used to be so many people making loopers/switching boxes - he was the only guy I could find at the time (about 2002)! www.loooper.com My favourite kind of America, i.e. one who totally bullshits the declared customs value without you even asking!
7. it is pretty compact - but that Ampeg is also the same width as a marshall guitar head IIRC.
8. Sorted:
9. Just got my new downsized and simplified one done:
10. She rides! Sounds friggin' amazing - gone from a fair bit of eq to next to just a little bass and mid boost. Cracking. Also sounds great with OD and distortion. It cost one hell of a lot of money but I don't anticipate ever needing anything else. Going to try and pick up an old Peavey T-Max as a backup head though just in case the 30 year old Ampeg ever shits it on me.
11. £350?!?!?!?! WTF?! Awesome! I'd love a gold sparkle ASAT to go with my red sparkle L2k but it'd just be too excessive to have two basses essentially identical except for the horn!
12. Don't like the gold but that's still pretty pimpin' - and the fact that it's a one off is a major bonus.
13. Original metal bands - that, in my experience, is something of an oxymoron. I should add that I like heavy music; can't beat a bit of guitar and shout every now and again. The worst is going to see a touring act (normally a small scale band pulling 1-200 people) and their supports are a bag of sh*te as it's just the record label current artist rosta rather than complimentary, high quality supports.
14. Cracking - I've been tempted a few times to get a used GBE600 sent over. Would not be expensive at all.
15. Okay, nice little guitar from SX/ Rondo Music. Looks like it has been discontinued now but it is pretty much as new bar a few marks on the pick guard. The finish is a bit dicey at the end of the neck between the fretboard and neck p/up but that the only thing - it won't matter at this price! Anyway, it's a great little guitar but I just don't play it. Comes with a very plush padded gig-bag and spare set of D'Addario's. Would prefer not to post this as I don't have a clue how I'd pack it so just get in touch to see what could be arranged in terms of delivery/ collection. Asking £95 including gig-bag.
16. Man, those metal grills look so much better than the powder coated ones.
17. Well, it's only going to be bedroom/living room practise I should imagine so wont' be able to shed any light on actual rehearsal use.
18. So, 20 minutes into widdling and I swap the cab over for the guy just picking up my old one to hear and I blow a frigging fuse! Trip to Maplins this lunch time - can't believe I had no spare fuses! Take two this evening (thank god my girlfriend is out the country).
19. I'd agree with most folk on here - I used to say that i'd never be in a covers band but I've matured a good bit now! I've no problem with cover bands; the thing that gets my goat and dominates (did I say dominates? I meant monopolises) the venues in the west midlands are tribute bands. Don't get tribute bands at all; have no interest in seeing them or playing in one (how limited do you want to bbe?!).
20. I'd avoid Ashdown for the sound you're after - loads of choice for the money. Have you tried 10's? It seems unusual that someone who likes the solid state punch etc. would be using a 15! I reckon you should stick with a trace head (always plenty about use) and to trade off the weight of that old bugger get a nice lightweight 4x10 or similar configuration - EBS (maybe too expensive), SWR or Mark Bass would work nice I suspect.
21. I almost feel inadequate with this little thing - it's going to take some getting used to. You need professional help mate. I found that practically using more than about 10 pedals became difficult. That said I was doing vocals at the same time so perhaps you're on to something....
22. Putting together my new scaled down pedalboard tonight - it's going to look a little something like this: Two Loop Loooper - Loop A> Crowther Prunes & Custard - Loop B> Fulltone Bassdrive (new MOSFET version), Keeley modded RAT - Tuner out> Korg tuner That is the smallest pedalboard I've ever had - right back to my first which had about 5 boss pedals on. It's all good quality sh*t though; got I love OD/distortion!
23. I reckon some of the negative views are the stigma of amp modelling - I went in expecting it to sound a little 'fake' or to smother the character of the instrument; but I used my ears when trying it instead of my prejudicial eyes!
24. Can't wait to get it home and hook up the V4!! I also got a Baja tech volume control for the Ampeg too which I haven't tried yet (http://www.bajatechcustom.com/catalog/prod...?products_id=65) thankfully I don't have any plans this evening. Also, I've just sorted my replacement pedalboard (Fulltone bassdrive, Keeley Modded RAT, Crowther prunes & custard, Korg tuner all through a Loooper) - just need to hook it all up together and then my entire rig is sorted! I knew there was a good reason to replace my broken camera at the weekend
25. OK, the credit card amount for cab + shipping from Bass Central was £741 ($1.96 to the pound), and I've just had to pay £130 in duty, VAT and UPS handling charge. £871 for a speaker cab. Holy sh*t. This had better be the tits.
