Original metal bands - that, in my experience, is something of an oxymoron. I should add that I like heavy music; can't beat a bit of guitar and shout every now and again. The worst is going to see a touring act (normally a small scale band pulling 1-200 people) and their supports are a bag of sh*te as it's just the record label current artist rosta rather than complimentary, high quality supports.

Cracking - I've been tempted a few times to get a used GBE600 sent over. Would not be expensive at all.

Okay, nice little guitar from SX/ Rondo Music. Looks like it has been discontinued now but it is pretty much as new bar a few marks on the pick guard. The finish is a bit dicey at the end of the neck between the fretboard and neck p/up but that the only thing - it won't matter at this price! Anyway, it's a great little guitar but I just don't play it. Comes with a very plush padded gig-bag and spare set of D'Addario's. Would prefer not to post this as I don't have a clue how I'd pack it so just get in touch to see what could be arranged in terms of delivery/ collection. Asking £95 including gig-bag.

Suggestions for compact, good quality practise amp.

Well, it's only going to be bedroom/living room practise I should imagine so wont' be able to shed any light on actual rehearsal use. -
So, 20 minutes into widdling and I swap the cab over for the guy just picking up my old one to hear and I blow a frigging fuse! Trip to Maplins this lunch time - can't believe I had no spare fuses! Take two this evening (thank god my girlfriend is out the country).

covers vs originals and the value of what you do
G-bitch replied to john_the_bass's topic in General Discussion
I'd agree with most folk on here - I used to say that i'd never be in a covers band but I've matured a good bit now! I've no problem with cover bands; the thing that gets my goat and dominates (did I say dominates? I meant monopolises) the venues in the west midlands are tribute bands. Don't get tribute bands at all; have no interest in seeing them or playing in one (how limited do you want to bbe?!). -
I'd avoid Ashdown for the sound you're after - loads of choice for the money. Have you tried 10's? It seems unusual that someone who likes the solid state punch etc. would be using a 15! I reckon you should stick with a trace head (always plenty about use) and to trade off the weight of that old bugger get a nice lightweight 4x10 or similar configuration - EBS (maybe too expensive), SWR or Mark Bass would work nice I suspect.

I almost feel inadequate with this little thing - it's going to take some getting used to. You need professional help mate. I found that practically using more than about 10 pedals became difficult. That said I was doing vocals at the same time so perhaps you're on to something....

Putting together my new scaled down pedalboard tonight - it's going to look a little something like this: Two Loop Loooper - Loop A> Crowther Prunes & Custard - Loop B> Fulltone Bassdrive (new MOSFET version), Keeley modded RAT - Tuner out> Korg tuner That is the smallest pedalboard I've ever had - right back to my first which had about 5 boss pedals on. It's all good quality sh*t though; got I love OD/distortion!

I reckon some of the negative views are the stigma of amp modelling - I went in expecting it to sound a little 'fake' or to smother the character of the instrument; but I used my ears when trying it instead of my prejudicial eyes! -
Can't wait to get it home and hook up the V4!! I also got a Baja tech volume control for the Ampeg too which I haven't tried yet (http://www.bajatechcustom.com/catalog/prod...?products_id=65) thankfully I don't have any plans this evening. Also, I've just sorted my replacement pedalboard (Fulltone bassdrive, Keeley Modded RAT, Crowther prunes & custard, Korg tuner all through a Loooper) - just need to hook it all up together and then my entire rig is sorted! I knew there was a good reason to replace my broken camera at the weekend

OK, the credit card amount for cab + shipping from Bass Central was £741 ($1.96 to the pound), and I've just had to pay £130 in duty, VAT and UPS handling charge. £871 for a speaker cab. Holy sh*t. This had better be the tits.

If it's a drummer who can play quietly (or shall we say 'dynamically') then you would be fine. There would be no need for brushes are any such thing. -
I'll tell you when it arrives - I'm anticipating £850ish all in. Came from Bass Central.

yeeeeeeessss! Going to be shaking the foundations when I get home tonight! Have at ye, bitches!

ABM 1x10 - nice. Still couldn't ever bring myself to buy an Ashdown after a bad experience many years ago; and my prejudice was in place looong before they had a MAG range made in China and anyone questioned their reliability! Funny really; everyone just assumed they'd be as bomb-proof as Trace Elliots were. -
Good points from Buzz - if you can pay all costs to parents and reassure them that you will not drive like a tit (and f***ing mean it - a car is a lethal weapon when young adults start behaving like kids), then you'll save a fortune but still get the driving experience. Also look into the pass plus thing to get that first year premium down whenever you do sort it out.

It'll fit in a black cab - unless you'll be gigging with it twice a week or more then I'd suggest you don't bother getting a car. You'll spend £800 on a car that will need regular work done on it unless you are very lucky - even then £200 over one year would be a conservative estimate for an old car. Then you will have spend £1K+ on insurance, then you will have to tax it and put petrol in (call it £1k over the year). That's c.£3K a year or £58 a week so if you ain't gigging regularly then getting taxi's and buying the odd pint/curry for the designated band driver will pale into insignificance - then you can save a little, spend a little and by the time you feel that you really want (it's never need is it ) a car to pootle around in (about 21 normally when you get a girlfriend who lives miles away so your car = getting your oats) then insurance will be a good bit cheaper and you might even be earning more.

Well guys, I picked up a Line6 110 at the weekend from the family music shop in Bristol (Mickleburgh's Pianos) seeing as Fair Deal couldn't get it in anytime this month. That amp is seriously awesome, can't believe how much nice clean power it puts out! Oh and I got a discount too so it was only £155. I am chuffed. -
Any Tobias made by Gibson.

Ampeg V4-B bass amp head for sale(Update)
G-bitch replied to Bass Wielder's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I think £595 is a wee bit rich for me - I did a spares or repairs with new OT, new caps, valves (7027's are readily available now and not very expensive) & general TLC from my local tech plus bought a set of spare valves and all amounted to around £400 although this was a 76ish V4 and they don't look as nice. I take it this is an early 70's job? Also, where are you based? -
Just go tracking info - Bergie due to land on Wednesday.
Actually I'm getting close to this as I'm switching basses, amps, pedals and levels of blend from my board But I'm considering the T-rex Mac1 as it has 2 blendable effect loops
Are you sure the switchblade loops aren't blendable? I'd be amazed if not. It's an amazing bit of kit; our guitarist had the 16GL until the lockup got broken into....... I searched online for this for ages as it's such a distinctive piece of kit but to no avail.
