2.
Somebody should buy this...really. I'm a bit staggered - a beautifully restored Alembic for less than a grand?
Maybe you should buy it then sell me your series shorty...... :-) Jazzyvee
3. I came across this today which may be useful for those planning to buy from outside the UK. http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/
4. I think a high end bass is any bass where they cost more than a fender and someone here thinks they are not worth their brand new price tag. :-)
5. I'm just curious if any alembic basses where there and what anyone trying one out for the FIRST time thought about them? I really wanted to come along and bring mine but I was gigging friday, didn't have time after travelling back on saturday. I hope it went well. Maybe I can get to a meetbup in the Midlands if there is another one. Jazzyvee
6. i did a gig last night and was able to use my own rig as the venue did not have a back line, So much better than any supplied rig I've had. Jazzyvee

Fun fun fun. Jazzyvee
Yesterday I upgraded this bass with new Q-switches so like the series and anniversary basses the Q switches have 3 positions of 0/6/9db instead of the standard 0/8db which gives me the option of a more subtle resonance peak at the cut of frequency of the low pass filter plus a slightly higher full on effect. Sounds great at home and I have two gigs over the weekend to try them out. Jazzyvee
8. Just out of curiosity, can you bi-amp that cab?
9. I had an excellent gig in Lightwoods Park May Day Festival 2014 with Musical Youth in front of an estimated couple of thousand revellers.
10. Surround sound style bass rig. Jazzyvee
11. I'm gigging with Musical Youth at the Lightwoods Park May Day Festival 2014 in Bearwood Birmingham on Monday 5th May. We are on stage at 17:15. https://www.facebook.com/events/580224455417742/ Jazzyvee
12.
Ok, to give everyone an update on this I spoke to Janek recently and basically he's been absolutely overwhelmed by the response as have we to be honest. So if people want to continue sending the strings that's fine I'll be updating the facebook just to update everyone else.
I'm just off to post some now. Jazzyvee
13. I have one of those pedals, got it in USA in 92 and It is a superb pedal. Anyway where did you get the 9v adaptor? I could do with one myself. Jazzyvee
14. Check out the Yardbird in Paradise place in Birmingham city centre. They have a jazz jam session every couple of weeks. I think the last one was last weeks so one should be coming up soon. I get a text from the organiser and will post it here for you when i know the next date. Jazzyvee
15. Are all the Loop switches mentioned above silent switching? I had a ART Pro Audio Cool switch and it made a click that comes through the speakers whenever the foot switches were pressed so It had to go. Jazzyvee
16. Yes when a rapper gets up to do their free-styling.
17. Well it was as they told me today a slightly open mouth impression. Jazzyvee
18. I had some custom IEM/ACS earplugs made from a mould made at the Custom IEM stand on the London Bass Show. They arrived a few weeks back and I've tried them on two gigs so far and in the main they seem to be fairly flat in terms of their attenuation. However I have identified an issue which to be fair both IEM and Acs are going to look into for me. Firstly when I move my mouth on stage i.e. laughing or smiling with the band members or punters, there is leakage of sound round the sides of the insert. The second point is of more concern and I wonder if anyone here has had the same issue. When slapping and popping the popped note sounds about a semitone flat which I found very confusing. Fortunately I was playing a fixed part so I could ignore it as I knew I could see I was hitting the correct notes. But I could see if being a problem if I was doing an improvised solo. Has anyone else noticed that. Jazzyvee
19. In the early 80's I was in a soul, blues & funk band and the bass player had a fender Jazz bass and a Columbus jazz bass which he used to play for different songs. However whenever we were in the studio, the engineer always preferred the sound of the columbus bass to the Fender. Cheap does not always mean nasty. Jazzyvee
20.
Macka B's new video, Medical Marajuana Card, is great, guaranteed to put a smile on your face. We'll be playing at the same festival as him in August, I can't wait to check him out:
To of my mates play in that band. Guitarist Cho Cho and the bass player who is usually Cornelius Wynter or a guy called Polo. jazzyvee
21. I had a completely different experience at bass gear yesterday. I called the shop in the morning to say I was coming down to check out some basses fodera, Ritter, FBass and they could not be more helpful. They even offered to stay open later if I got there late in the day. When I arrived they were setup ready for me with a bass rig, all the details for each bass printed out in colour with a sheet informing about how all the controls work on all the basses. Even offered to restring the fodera's when I felt they sounded dull. When I got home I'd got an email thanking me for my visit and offering to respond to any queries I had about the basses. Now that is what I call looking after a customer. Jazzyvee

I found the Eggle team to be very good and helpful to me. Funny you mention Rob Williams, I have one of his custom strats which he made when his company was woodworm guitars. I bought it from one of his former endorsees. Jazzyvee
23.
These were bought as AXYs so that would make them hum cancelling, the series l/ll were true single coils pickups according to Alembic with dummy hum canceler. Your right that it will need a low impedance pre or booster like the Boogieman, but cause they are wound hotter they will work with most preamps too.Albeit a lower output though>
I'm after a set of these myself to upgrade a 5 string bass but I need the bigger AXY 5/6 pickups or the fat boys equivalent I already have an ACG Pre-amp to use. I'm sure they will work with a number of non alembic on-board pre-amps but they are not wound hot at all which is why you need the low impedance pre-amp to get the best out of them. They have significant less coils than regular pickups and the hum cancelling design is not the same as hum bucking pickups where both coils have a magnet. Each Alembic AXY's has only one coil with a magnet that picks up the string movement and the other coil has no magnet and just picks up noise which is then cancelled out. They can also be used with the Alembic Blaster http://alembic.stores.yahoo.net/blaster.html I hope that helps a prospective buyer. Jazzyvee
24. Wow you don't see many Millennia TD-1's in someone's bass rig. When I was in the states a couple of years back I spoke to a pro bass player who spoke very highly of them. How do you feel about it? Jazzyvee
