I have had two of these., they sound fine but are not robust the first one the the switchesand headphone socket stopped working, the second the jack broke away from the body. So whilst i liked their sound I wouldn't recommend them. I went for a Phil Jones Bass Big Head which is I can highly recommend. well engineered great simple EQ and doubles as an audio interface though I haven't used it in that way yet.

Probably why they have only made one six string Classico. Actually I read somewhere on their forum that they have only made somewhere between 20 and 30 classico instruments in total. Hard to know for sure as they don't keep counts of individual models of instruments.

Yes Alembic have been known to make instruments using wood supplied by customers so you can try asking if you have a custom you are looking to have made.

You can always send your own strings and they will set the bass up with those too otherwise it comes with Alembic strings. 🙂

I use Barefaced cabs now for everything from jazz funk, folk, Rnb and reggae which are my main gigs. If you want a one cab solution I would recommend the Big Twin II. Dubster II on it's own is great but if you were going to use it for ska or other stuff then I'd suggest using it with a big Baby II to get more of the mid range stuff. I guess it depends on what kind of bottom end sound you want. I tend to go for as clean a sound as I can get you may prefer a more classic bass rig tone. Interesting that you guys reach for that sub/deeps button on the amp heads, I've had those on a number of rigs at rehearsal rooms or as backline and to me they made the sound muddy and less defined unless playing in a high register so I personally make sure they are off.

Currently im learning about 20 Brazillian music tracks for a band i have recently joined.

I Shot the Sheriff is one of the tracks we cover in my band and i don't try to make it sound like any individual version. i take parts from each of the versions i know and merge it into the way i want to play it. It still sounds like the the song should sound. Here is a snippet of how i do it which in this part of the song is closer to the Burnin the wailers version

All you need is one of these in your send and return loop or use it as a pre-amp into a good power amp and you can get the most incredible reggae and dub bass tone you can imagine. This is my main gigging bass these days an Alembic Europa. All maple body with maple and purpleheart neck and ebony fretboard. A really versatile bass and a pleasure to play .

I did my first full 2 hr rehearsal with the band a couple of weeks ago and it was fine. My fingers did tire on some of the faster paced tracks but i got through them by simplifying my playing, and suggesting not putting the faster ones together till i get more proficient. The band were happy and my intonation was close enough not to throw anyone off. So things are progressing well i think.

Just measured it at 55mm x 38mm x 6mm. Which includes the sleeve it is contained in.

I think way over 500 times as i use it most days for home practice and backstage to warm up. Is that 500 charge cycles some kind of norm for those types of battery then?

True legendary bass and something to hold on to. If you don’t mind me asking, how did it come to be in your possession?

When I use the search facility there are no items returned and also if I select Unread content nothing is showing in the results regardless of the criteria I choose. Currenty it is set to show everything but nothing is returned. Is there a reset option for my user account or is something wrong? If I just use the browse option then I can see there are new items appearing all the time.

Not found anything on line yet. I called distributor but not heard back from them. Fortunately it still works via usb power and an external battery pack but not so convenient.

I have had one of these for a few years now and the rechargeable battery will only provide about 20 - 30 minutes of playing time from a full charge. I have contacted the UK Distributor for PJB by email and phone and not had any response back from them. I haven't take the unit to bits yet to see what type of battery it uses. But has anyone else had the problem and can advise me on what replacement battery to use.

How are you getting on with your Spyder?

Absolutely, shipping and import duty and vat would add a few grand to that I imagine. However I don't have £25K burning a hole in a deep pocket. But it's a damn fine looking bass.
