1. Other plusses of bidding early is not doing that thing where you forget to bid. And not doing that thing where your connection hangs or your PC crashes at the last moment. But one of my favourites is the knowing when someone has outbid you and knowing that cash is free to be played with elsewhere.
2.
Griff lives in my village, believe me there is no resembelance.
The camera never lies... Never.
3.
I always wait till the last second that way I don't get in a bidding war and therefore push the price up.
This is why I enter my max bid early. Ebay bids for you up to your max, so if you were to do this, you'd still have to bid just as much in order to win, without the time to reflect upon what the item is really worth. I think a lot of people don't realise Ebay bids for you up to your max, as I've seen people bid 8 times in the last few minutes, being outbid by a pound each time by my earlier max. Only problem is it leaves you open to shill bidding, but I just bid the amount I want to spend, they can't shill it higher than that, the only second chance offer I've had was a ridiculous bargain anyway. The last minute bidding war is where people spend silly money on Ebay, buying items for over their value as they get overexcited. Auction sniper seems especially pointless, If I have the same amount of money to spend on the item, I win because my bid is higher by the auction sniper fee, no matter how close to the last second you bid goes in, if you bid more than me, you win regardless of when you bid.
4. Winner is who bids most first, so they are only gonna beat you if they bid more than you. I always bid as early as I decide how much I'm willing to spend. Which is rarely very much. I've snagged quite a few nice things, and for silly low bids. Scored a P copy with EMGs in it for a very low bid. You can only get lucky if you chance it.
5. I've just put a new bridge on my carved up P bass which has back or through strung options, and the bottom string isn't quite long enough to make it to the nut, so I have back strung that one and through strung the rest. There is definitely a difference in feel, less tension. I've used the same strings (Ken Smith Metal Masters) on a few basses and they are consistent. There is a bit of a difference in sound too, more of a thump to the attack.
6. You won't necessarily have to change it that often, when it gets chudded up enough to be a problem, a dressing is all it needs anyway, much less hasssle, repeatable depending on how thick your board is.
7. New policy of posting these here instead of buying them. 190255410304
8. Minimal number of windings round the peg helps too.
9. Sounds like exactly the sort of thing I'm after.
10. A few times I've thought of a way of putting together a nice guitar out of something a bit crap I've acquired, get all enthused about guitars, make it then never play it. It's inevitable black pointy metal guitars too, got a collection now, never play them, no-one else even wants to look at them. Got a full valve stack sat about too, completely pointless, not even like I'm minted to have such toys laying about, just opportunistic. Even when I'm writing a guitar part, usually use an acoustic laying about. Get a mando or something, can do chords and learn to think in 5ths.
11. Is there any way round that volume drop thing? Made my neck j-pup p mono and been noticing it.
12. Maybe, 120310071485 Might be ply, but got those bridges on a coupla my basses, and they are cool. Good starter.
13. Cut the slots deeper or grind down the bottom of the nut to lower it. If you go too far it will rattle, but you can put a thin bit of plasitc under as a shim.
14. Does the reserve show up before anyone bids? 330273376493
15. Lacquer the cat first, this will not only prevent shedding, but also give you a challenging practice run. Leave it in a cool place to harden, as the cat will be attracted to a warm place.
16. I went to my local brew shop, they do the rubber seals for 15 pence each. Boguht a dozen, ended up giving them to people and ran out really fast. Dammit.
17. Switching the cable round did the trick. Excellent.
18. Caricatures - doom metal, always looking at slower louder and lower. Don't ask about the band name, or if you must, ask the drummer, not because he knows, but it annoys him most of all. Myspace as in sig for those with them off. Got 1 gig in Trowbridge coming up, gonna see how things go now we have shed a guitarist. Gonna be under-rehearsed as drummer is on tour with Joe Garcia and Rose Kemp.
19. Depending on transport, the JCM600 will be being tested as the high end side of my biamp plan. However, if someone were to come to pBristol with a sum of cash to offer me for it, I'd have a hard time refusing, as I have my eye on other toys. It's 60w and I'm suspicious that the reverb might not work. Since the reverb isn't useful to me I haven't bothered trying to fix it, but will if necessary.
20. Bit like this one then?
21. I like my gas one, cheap from Lidl, trick is not to turn it up very far, cause it gets far too hot and burns out the tip.
22. Buy a fretless neck and sell the fretted one. I kinda want a nice fretted neck.
23.
Also doesn't Sheehan himself use Rotosound Swing Bass strings?
He does have some dude change them every gig though, not entirely practical for mortals.
24.
I might be able to get my hands on the wood. They're cutting down some maple trees where I work and I could see if they'd be kind enough to cut me some blanks. I could also provide my own hardware.
You'd have to season it for several years before using that. Course, get it anyway, stack it up in garage, will be doing your future self a favour. With luthiers its always the time not the materials that is the cost.
25. Its been out of the bass I bought it in, might try the quick connect cable, its the smaller one, not the one the batttery goes to that is being a pain, will dismantle tomorrow.
