I'm sorted as I have the original with my bass. He offered it in my restoration thread. Probably gonna be cutting one for brass or copper and etching/sandblasting the CMI into it, let me know if you want a metal TRC, can do polished stainless and stuff.
I get the feeling you don't really read all the words before posting
I don't work off feelings. Observation and research to explain it. That's why there are quotes associated with my rebuttals. You have read this:
Just like speakers, the magnet material isn't the bit changing the tone.
And then tried to construct an argument against magnet material changing the tone, as is apparent from quotes such as this:
Actually neodymiums are the strong pickup magnets. Are they super bright?
The design parameters of a pickup are dependent on all factors, one of which is magnet material and the associated properties. Other factors are adjusted in order to achieve the design goals, which for the purpose of a bass pickup are in a very limited bands of size, output and response with additional cost considerations (where ceramic wins hugely). The significant advantages of ceramic magnets means there is far greater scope for adjusting these design parameters, as they are stronger and more stable. The main influence on the brighntess/voicing/response of a pickup itself is the nature of the coil, but to achieve the required output within the required size, other design elements have to be adjusted. These factors are all related, definitely not 'unrelated' as you claim.

Totally didn't see that coming.
Whats the impedance of the barefaced 4? You could get the 8 ohm version an be fine running it on the 2ohm tap at 2.67 ohms I did it with my mesa for ages
That would be putting less power into the less sensitive cab (from the heavy voice coils, and sealed cab, 95% sure the Barefaced is significantly more sensitive). Plus I don't get the impression Ampeg output transformers are especially robust.
Or get 2 8ohm 6x10s to run with your 2x15 ;p
That would probably balance the volume. Would kind of totally negate the weight advantage of the BFV, although Shockwave's Ampeg head does that. -
This is true...... but then you find most of them smother the burger in Ketchup........
The chain pub burger yes. Doing that in my house will get you ejected from my house. That is one of the many reasons I far prefer it.

The truss is one of the few decent original bits with this, so I'm keeping that on here. Cheers for the offer, make mention in the Rickenfakers thread, and someone might have it to restore their CMI that someone has stuck a crappy Rickenbacker badge on.

Unwanted resonance with Fender P-bass '51 reissue
Mr. Foxen replied to matt-bass-sparkes's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've had a truss rod rattle sometimes, super annoying. -
If this is the little combo, there isn't a valve involved, its 'transtube' which means something else.
But are they super bright?
They are very transparent apparently. I've not tried them, Mr. Claber has them in his bass, Q-tuners. They aren't comparable, because they work in a different fashion to a conventional pickup, and aren't made in a previously established shape.
No, just, no For example Fender pickups could have simply increased the diameter of the pole pieces. Alnico was not maxed out. Increasing windings will greatly increase output without increasing the shape of the pickup.
Increasing the diameter of pole pieces correspondingly reduces the amount of space for a coil to go round it. And increasing windings will result in a darker tone as the capacitance increases. Alnico magnets also improved steadily, but corresponding ceramic ones are stronger and more stable.
So one pickup sounds something like the un amplified tone, the other doesn't. So neither sounds like the un amplified bass.
I don't really know how you can say an output from a pickup doesn't sound like a bass. Plugged or unplugged, my bass sounds like a bass. I'd be very upset if I plugged in my new pickups and it sounded like a kazoo.
well that's just a gem! now will it fit into my telebass project I wonder? at only $25 it's got to be worth a pop, thanks
Think it is pretty much a tubescreamer, dude I know put one in his strat.
Many of them probably won't even accurately reproduce the fundamental of a normal E string.
This bit tells you how important the fundamental is to the sound: not at all. You might notice a high pass set to 100hz (maybe not if you are used to sealed 8x10s), but at 30hz, I doubt anyone would notice.

Is it essential to have a capacitor in my basses?
Mr. Foxen replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Repairs and Technical
Not unlikely it is picking up hum from your laptop, lots of complicated electrickery going on there. I use a CRT monitor or TV to check for hum. -
Fairly sure its the plastic horn that is the broken part.

Vintage MIJ (formerly J@pCr@p) Spotting
Mr. Foxen replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
If it was that much of a bargain, I'd have bought it and put it back up at sensible. That's the reason why I'm seeing all these. Anyway, if you fancy it at £119, message the guy, he can cancel the bids, or deal off ebay entirely. -

Where to find small wood screws? Or springs?
Mr. Foxen replied to pete.young's topic in Repairs and Technical
Smashed biros in the street is my spring source. Ebay seems to be good for small quantities of screws. -

Also note Steve Harris removes the tone control from his bass, a habit from playing small gigs where people would touch the knobs, he signals a guy for tone changes. As for buzzing, I'd get a meter and check everything is earthed to everything else. -
Adjusting truss rods makes me feel loads more capable than all the guitarists I know.

Whether or not you'll miss it is really the question.

Had a bunch of wet days, and the season is clearly changing. I am noticing the necks on my basses are on the move, some new rattles and easier playing actionseems to be happening. Anyone else getting this?
