Hi there, A little help/advice from the experts would be appreciated... I'm hoping to build a mini speaker box to go under my PJB bassbuddy, this will be my first cab build! My intention is that it will have an internal void of 300x300x300mm with 4 25mm dia vents in the front, this matches the Eminence data sheet vent requirement for my chosen speaker (Eminence Basslite CH2010 10") but exceeds the data sheet for internal volume (would be 300x300x200mm) as I liked the idea of a bass-cube... What are the implications of me making the box deeper? Will it sound more 'middy' but have less low end if I make it shallower to match the data sheet? Will it sound too woofy if I make it a cube? Or will it be fine? Should I fill the void with something, just attach some insulation to the sides/top/bottom or leave it empty? Thanks guys.
Bigger box is more lows, if the port tuning is right (it depends on box size as well as the pipe size). Knobbly foam lining inside.

Guess yours doesn't have the cross pattée either, fairly sure they are a later edition. Although Dub Crusader is a good name. Does need a pretty hot input, something to bear in mind. The Stategy was much more sensitive.

Is the slave like mine? Does it have a beat up box too? Might be interested in the beat box and rigging my other Matamp chassis into it. I have a factory visit pending. Curious as to colour of the box, my is also 1979 and fairly sure it once was part of a dub rig, I was hoping it had brothers in yellow and red.
Oh, I'm not offended, I couldn't tell 'static pressure' from a rolling doughnut, but I'll be sure to tell my guy he's a noob and shouldn't do stuff like this
Cab manufacturers quote thermal watt ratings of their cabs, it is still meaningless. Same sort of thing. A fan is a 0hz driver, the enclosure matters.

Trace already did stuff with front resonant chamber:

Bear in mind in that image, the hole is about one wavelength across.
Here's a photo of the tidal movement through a restriction from above. Is this what the hole does (seems the opposite of the beam blocker)?
The foam is transparent to big waves, and makes much more mess, because small waves get through, but later or in a different direction and they bounce around the cells in the foam.and all sorts of other stuff depending on frequency. Plus more fun from the inside edge of the hole.
Bridges where the intonation adjustment isn't done by winding the saddle backwards and forwards on screw but requires you to move it physically by hand. It's far more cumbersome, time consuming and potentially less accurate to set. However I see a lot of designs using this method so I'm thinking there must me a good reason for it from tone PoV to make it worthwhile because it certainly isn't ergonomic. Would any of the Basschat resident luthiers care to comment?
Those ones tend to let you fully lock the saddle in place, rather than wibbling about on a spring. You could have a screw as well, but more parts for same functionality.

Heavy duty 12AT7 for a reverb driver

Know how to work a multimeter? Usning this handy resistor calculator you can test the resistors relating to that valve are in spec, in case they are the issue. -
Find some lead solder. Not lead solder is all round rubbish.
Analogy? Take a torch and a sheet of glass. Clear glass gives a focused beam from the torch, as the beam is relatively unaffected. Frost the glass however and you'll get scattering, widening the beam. I'm guessing this is something like?
Problem is, see the Dark Side of the Moon cover, different frequencies/colours scatter more than others.

Neck is from a copy, so isn't even as complete as it looks.

I've already read it, and the dissection of it with various engineers, including BFM. Just because something works doesn't mean that the explanation of why it works is true.
The hole in the foam is an integral part of the design. If you block it up with a beam blocker it won't work properly. Have you read the description?
Think the point is it doesn't work the way you think it works.

Where does technique end, and music begin?
Mr. Foxen replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I'm at a pretty uncreative time at the moment, everything is going pretty smooth, so I don't have much I wish to express. So I work on my technique, getting various bits I've picked up to integrate into my playing. When I do wanna to say something, maybe they'll be useful. -
Headless acoustic. That sounds sweet .
Yeah, good camping bass. But at this point, I'd strip it and ebay it in separate parts.
That's lovely, my only worry is that it might be a little underpowered. Does it do loud and clean?
If they don't, something is wrong. Usually that something is an ECC83 in the phase splitter position which makes them do loud and dirty. Should be an ECC81, then it is clean, and loud. 6 EL34 is 120w with a lot of headroom.

A lot of cocking around with valves, and this now all works, and isn't stupidly noisy, still quite noisy though, gonna investigate the noise reduction mods, starting with the least invasive. Working on another one now. Further updates on other amps will be on this blog I started for the purpose, will be posts about other gear work I do and whatever I get my hands on, as well as stuff I'm selling: http://ampstack.wordpress.com/ Eventually I'll be arsed to put appropriate decorations on here.

That only works for one speaker, this is all about aligning multiple speakers. Really the right way to do multiple speakers is low pass all but one, then maybe donut that, so you have the low end sensitivity of multiple speakers, and the dispersion of one.
Sorry, I was too cryptic. When standing in front of and above a speaker, a guitarist will hear more and smoother mids and highs when the speakers are side by side than when they are vertical, assuming the top of each cab is positioned at the same height.
The top of the cab will be higher if it is stacked vertically, that is a bunch of the point.
-
That would be one vote for Leo Fender then.
No, Fender didn't make tall stacks, they made short combos, and guitartists tend to sit on them or stand in front of them, so all the top end misses them and icepicks anyone in front..

I think audience on axis, but guitard's ears off axis is usually the problem scenario.
