1. Yeh, the 4.5XL is the one with the 5" driver in it: I tend to drop a lot of the top end out on my Sansamp though, so I'm not too sure what impact the 5" driver has on my tone.
2. 95% of the places I play, my band goes through our PA (drums, two keys, guitar, sax and vocals) and I just come out of my own rig, which consists of my '91 Burner into a Sansamp RPM rackmounted preamp into a Behringer EP1500 power amp (which hasnt put a foot wrong in 5 years), then out in bridged mono into one of my 4.5XLs. To be fair, I usually don't need the amp turned up beyond about 9/10 o'clock to keep up with the PA, and my sound is very clear and clean. I would imagine that either the 410 or a couple of 112s would get me there as regards volume, but how different would each set up be to the sound I'm used to through the 4.5XL?
3. Sorry chaps, I've put that over wrong. I only use one 4.5XL live nowadays for the most part, but was able to haul the two of them around in the old car if required. So its really something to replace one 4.5XL; a Hydrive 410, or two Hydrive 112 cabs?
4. Well, thanks to Citroen completely redesigning the new C5, I'm now on the hunt for some new cabs! I used to get both of my Hartke 4.5XLs in the cavernous back of my old car, but thanks to the new one being a saloon I cant even get one cab in the boot! I love the sound off the 4.5XLs so it really is a bit of a wrench to switch to something else, so I've been looking at some new Hartke gear, and am stuck between the 410 or buying 2 of the 112 speaker cabs and have a mini-stack of sorts. Obviously, the ability to squeeze them into my car is a pretty big issue (and after the back-breaking 99kg of the 45XLs, something lighter would be nice too! ), but I dont really want to sacrifice much in the way of tone, or change my sound too much. Has anybody used any of these live, and can give me a decent review on them, and how they would be compared to my existing set-up? Ta very muchly.
5.
Or you could say, it's a fake, depending on your perspective. The guy is obviously very skilled, and I don't think he's out to fool anyone but it doesn't seem to stop with the external features. IIRC, I've seen one of his creations, a 'replica' of a 60s Jazz, which had an authentic looking neck stamp. There's potential for deception, whether intended or not, once an instrument has changed hands a few times over the years. It's a Bravewood, not a Fender, and should be clearly labelled as such.
*yawn* There's always one....
6.
You want to look at Bravewood Guitars, the chap makes vintage fender relic'd instruments same as Nash except the necks are handmade to fit the body. If your paying up to £2k on a bolt on always make sure both parts are specifically made for eachother, otherwise you may as well keep trying out MIM Fenders until you get lucky!! Bravewood's sound great but the relic'ing looks very artificial, rub your arm on the nitro until it looks genuine otherwise it just appears speckly and crackled. The best ways to test bolt on basses is to hit the strings and feel the bottom of the guitar for resonance and also, to try pull offs on the higher frets acoustically and then check for sustain.
+1. I have the first "Jaco" fretless that John ever made, I had him make it since the Fender model was crazy money for what looks like, quite frankly stencilled relic work. I'd have to disagree about the quality of John's work though, the relic job on mine looks incredible and very realistic. Also, John makes the bodies and necks himself (or did when I ordered mine, that may have changed) to make sure that they are period correct. I've never played a Nash, only seen pictures but I'd put his stuff up against Nash any day of the week.
7. My Ken Smith Burner Custom 5 is 16mm, very comfortable indeed.

9. This is my take on it with my band, Miami Vince. Shoddy quality audio, but you'll get the idea I hope. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=435099039848722&set=vb.100000458906830&type=2&theater
10. Pretty sure the guy from The Vaccines played a Retrovibe at T In The Park this year, sounded pretty good.

17. Thanks to everybody for their attention, the bass is gone. Happy trails, RBV....
18. I know Stevie and I've had a go on this bass. The pics don't really do it justice, its really comfortable, and even though I'm not a sixer kind of guy in the slightest I got around on it really easy, despite it being a broadneck. Hurry up and get some better photos up, ye sasij!
19. Bought his Boss GEB-7, got here very quickly indeed and was in absolutely perfect nick! Proper gent to do business with.
20. Seems a weeeeeee bit extreme to me..... http://www.ebay.co.u...#ht_5840wt_1187
21. Think Hooky went through a phase of playing Yamahas, he's also playing one in the video for A Perfect Kiss. And IIRC, he got his Gibsonesque bass made with the innards of a Yammy.
